Beloved of All
I really want to know if someone I like likes me back, or if it's just a fantasy. If it's of God or I should let it go. I don't know if I can trust my intuition or feelings. I want God's wisdom, and clarity. To know his will. Through Jesus's name amen.

We join you in bringing this longing for clarity before the Lord and we thank you for seeking His will and for asking in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father.

We understand how stirring and confusing it can be to carry feelings for someone and not know if they are returned, whether it is a beautiful possibility from God or a fantasy that will lead to distraction. You are wise to not want to lean only on your own intuition or emotions, because Scripture gently corrects us there. Jeremiah 17:9 says The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who can know it. Feelings are real but they are not always reliable guides. James 1:5 promises But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. You are doing exactly what God invites you to do by asking Him for wisdom rather than trusting feelings alone.

We also hear your desire to know if this is of God or if you should let it go. Proverbs 3:5-6 teaches us Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. God delights to give clarity and direction to His children, and His will is revealed as we walk closely with Him, stay rooted in His Word, and remain surrendered to whatever answer He gives.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we lift up this dear one to You in Jesus name. You know the heart, You know this person who is on their mind, and You know the desires and questions that feel so heavy. We ask You to pour out Your wisdom liberally and to grant clear discernment. If this attraction is from You and could grow into a godly courtship that honors You, we ask You to make that plain in Your timing and in a way that is pure and peace filled. If it is only a fantasy or not Your best, we ask You to give grace to release it fully and to guard the heart from clinging to what is not Your will. Quiet any confusion and replace it with Your peace that surpasses understanding. Teach us to wait patiently and to find our contentment in You first. Lead both lives in purity and in devotion to You. We ask that any relationship that develops would be between a man and a woman who are both believers in Christ, pursuing courtship with the goal of marriage as a lifelong covenant that honors You, and that it would be equally yoked according to 2 Corinthians 6:14. Keep both from fornication and from anything outside Your design for marriage. Instruct and counsel as You have promised in Psalm 32:8 where You say I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you. We trust Your eye is on us and Your hand will guide. We surrender this situation to Your perfect will and timing, in the name of Jesus we pray, amen.

We encourage you to keep seeking Him daily in prayer and in the Word, for His Word is a lamp to our feet. Bring this before trusted, mature believers who can speak wisdom into your life and who can observe the character and faith of the other person with you. Watch for the fruit of a life that loves Jesus, and do not rush. God often brings clarity through open or closed doors, through His peace, and through godly counsel over time rather than through a single fleeting feeling. If God is in it, He will make it clear without you needing to chase or manipulate, and He will keep you both in purity and honor as you look toward marriage if that is His path. If He calls you to let it go, He will also give you the peace and strength to do so and He will guard your heart for the godly spouse He may have for you in the future. Continue to delight yourself in the Lord and trust that He will direct your steps.

We hear how heavy this wondering feels, wanting to know if your feelings are returned or if hope is running ahead of you, and wanting to honor God either way.

It makes sense you are asking whether you can trust your intuition right now. Feelings tell us something real, but they are not always a clear guide on their own. Sometimes longing, loneliness, or excitement can sound like certainty. It can help to gently separate what you feel from what you are thinking and what is actually happening between you two, and to notice your own motives as you pray. That kind of honest self awareness often makes it easier to recognize God's leading without ignoring your heart or being driven only by it.

A couple of steady next steps may help bring clarity without forcing it. Keep bringing this to God daily asking for wisdom for today rather than for a final answer all at once, and invite one mature person who knows you well to walk with you and pray with you. Someone outside the situation can often see patterns you cannot. As you wait, pay attention to consistent, respectful actions over time more than small moments or hints.

Father, we lift our friend to You and ask for Your quiet wisdom and peace. Calm the second guessing and in Your time make what is true clear. Help them to trust You above their feelings and to walk faithfully with whatever You show. In Jesus name, amen.

Your prayer for wisdom and clarity is itself a gracious sign, for the desire to know the will of God rather than to follow your own feelings is a work of His Spirit within you. It is far better to ask, Lord, what wilt Thou have me to do, than to lean upon intuition or upon the fleeting warmth of affection.

Remember that as surely as God's will is the axle of the universe, and as certainly as His will is the great heart of providence sending its pulsings through even the most distant limbs of human act, so in grace He is King, willing to do as He pleases. All things are under regulation and have an appointed place in His plan, and nothing happens, after all, but what He permits or ordains. It is foolish for any of us to say, we will go, we will do this or that, we will gain this heart or that future, and not to ask God's consent at all. Knowing that His sovereignty governs all, we will not always say, if the Lord wills, yet we will always feel it.

There is a revealed will which we must not violate, and that revealed will is our lamp when feelings are dim. Your intuition and your feelings, though they may be earnest, are not a sure guide. The Scriptures, prayer, and the counsel of the godly are the means by which the Lord makes His way plain. Sometimes even to be passive in the hand of God will be our strength, and to stand still until the cloudy, fiery pillar moves in front of us will be our highest wisdom. Wait upon the Lord, seek His face in His Word, and ask Him to change your will and make you willing in the day of His power, working in you to will to do of His own good pleasure.

Learn then to combine the two prayers our Saviour taught us, I will, yet not as I will. You may freely pour out your heart before your Father and say, Father, I will this thing if it be for Thy glory, and in the same breath bow before Him and say, not as I will, but as Thou wilt. You can always have your way when your way is God's way. The sure way to carry out your desire is when your desire is nothing else but God's will. And we will not even wish for any earthly gain or earthly love unless we can be promoting the will of God by having it. Our best profit will consist of doing His will.

Any affection that is to be pursued before the Lord must be pursued within His holy bounds, in purity and in the hope of that lifelong covenant of one man and one woman which He has ordained for His glory, and not otherwise. Bring this matter therefore under His light and leave it there.

We pray for you that the Lord who heals and guides His people will grant you a quiet and submissive heart, that He will guard you from fantasy and from haste, that He will give you clear sight through His Word and through wise counsel, and that He will make your will conformed to His own. May He show you whether to go forward in hope or to let this thing go in peace, and may you be content to have it so, because you know that no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly, and that salvation and every good gift are through Jesus Christ alone, in whose name we ask it. Amen.
