Mum with mental health problems

Disciple of Prayer
Please pray for my ### who has mental health problems. I really need prayers for her as she is getting worse. I am really scared of her when she is like this and I dread waking up every morning. I am so overwhelmed and drained at the moment and can hardly function myself. Please pray that she will get out of bed in the morning and that her mind will be restored. Thank you

We have heard your heart and we are lifting you and your mother before the Lord together, for we know how heavy and frightening this burden has become. To feel scared in your own home, to dread waking up every morning, to feel so overwhelmed and drained that you can hardly function yourself is a very real suffering, and our God sees you in it. He sees your mother as well and He cares deeply for both of you.

The Lord understands fear and exhaustion. He says in Isaiah 41:10, Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. And in 2 Timothy 1:7 we are reminded that God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and of self-control. When your heart feels overwhelmed, we pray you will run to Him as your refuge, for Psalm 61:2 says, When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I. He invites you in Matthew 11:28, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

We also know that our God is a healer of broken hearts and troubled minds. Psalm 147:3 says He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Isaiah 26:3 promises, You will keep whoever's mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you. We pray for that perfect peace and restoration for your mother's mind. Philippians 4:6-7 says, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. And 1 Peter 5:7 reminds us to cast all your worries on him, because he cares for you.

We join together in prayer for you both now.

Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to Your throne of grace. We lift up this dear mother to You. You know the depth of her struggle and the darkness that keeps her in bed and troubles her mind. We ask You to lay Your healing hand upon her, to restore her mind, to lift the heaviness and to give her strength to rise each morning. Bring peace to her thoughts, calm her fears, and let her feel Your presence and love. We pray You will guide her to the right help and support, and surround her with people who will care for her with wisdom and compassion.

And Father, we lift up this dear child who is so overwhelmed, drained and afraid. Lord, You see the dread and the exhaustion and the fear of each new day. We ask You to be their strength when they have none left, to be their refuge and their daily bread. Fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding and guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Help them to cast every worry on You, knowing You care for them. Provide for them godly support, whether through family, a pastor, a trusted church community, and wise counselors or doctors who can come alongside them, for we know we are called to bear one another's burdens. Renew their strength and help them to rest in You and to function one day at a time by Your grace.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently share that it is only by His name that we can come to the Father and be saved. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It is by believing in Jesus Christ, that He died for our sins and rose again, that we are forgiven and have open access to God in prayer. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Him and to call upon His name daily, for He is near to all who call upon Him.

We will continue to pray that your mother's mind will be restored and that she will find strength to get out of bed in the morning, and that you will be upheld, comforted and renewed as you walk through this difficult season. Please do not walk alone. Reach out to a trusted pastor, a mature believer, and to appropriate professional support for your mother's care and for your own. You are not forsaken. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and He will not leave you. We are praying for you both in Jesus' name.

We heard the weight in your note and we have been praying for you and your mum.

Waking up with dread and feeling scared in your own home is so hard to carry, and it makes complete sense that you feel overwhelmed and drained right now. Loving someone through worsening mental health struggles while also trying to keep going yourself can leave you exhausted in every way, and you are not failing for feeling like you can hardly function.

You do not have to carry this alone. If you can, please reach out soon to someone you trust, a family member, pastor, counselor, or your own doctor, and tell them honestly how you have been feeling and what mornings have been like. They can walk with you in deciding next steps for your mum's care and for your own support, and help you have a plan for when you feel unsafe. Alongside prayer, ongoing professional care for her and steady support for you can make an important difference, and it is good to keep her care providers aware of changes you are seeing.

We are praying for you both.

Father, we lift this dear mum to You and ask for Your mercy and healing in her mind and body, and for help for her to get the care she needs. We lift her child to You too, asking for protection, rest, and strength for each new day, and for wise and kind people to come close and help carry this burden. Give them both Your peace and guidance in the days ahead. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer has been heard and we join with you in bringing it before the throne of grace. To dread the morning and to feel overwhelmed and drained and scarcely able to function is a heavy burden, and the Lord sees you in it. He sees your mother also in her affliction, and He is not distant from either of you.

The Scripture speaks very plentifully this word for such a time as this, Fear not. The Lord says, Fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God. Fear not, I will help you. It is not merely a preacher who says this, but Jesus Himself who whispers it to His poor and fearful people. Fear is weakening and it dishonors the strength of the arm that piled the heavens, and therefore He gives His promise in many ways that we may chase fear away. You are not left to carry this alone, for He has promised His help.

We pray for your dear mother, that the Lord who is able to make perfect restoration would be gracious to her. He can take away the heart of stone and give a heart of flesh, and write His law there, and put His fear within, so that she shall be as though He had never cast her aside. Though sin and affliction have blackened and stained, He is able to make white again. We ask that He would lift her in body and in mind, that He would give her strength to rise in the morning, that He would restore her mind and bring calm and clearness where there is now trouble and darkness. As Peter was down and soon up again by the look and the prayer of Christ, so we pray that the Lord would look upon her in mercy and lift her up.

We pray also for you. The Lord knows your fear when she is unwell and your weariness from watching and caring. Ask Him to keep you, to give you daily strength, to remove that tormenting fear and to give you that holy trust in His promised strength which casts out fear. Perfect love casts out fear, and that love is shed abroad by His Spirit. May He sustain you hour by hour and not let you be brought into bondage by fear of what the next day may bring.

Continue to cast your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Seek also the help of faithful pastors and brethren around you, and where there is need of care for the body and mind, do not be slow to seek wise and godly help from those the Lord has gifted to care for such afflictions. Let the church bear this burden with you, that you need not carry it alone.

May the Lord hear your cry, restore your mother, and keep your heart in His perfect peace. We commend you both to His tender mercy, trusting that He who has prayed for His people will win His suit with the Father and will uplift those whom Satan would sift.

We will continue to pray that her mind will be restored and that you will know the Lord's help and presence each morning.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
