Move closer to my ###

Please pray that I can transition to a job that is near my elderly mother, so that I can help care for her several days per week and visit with her often. I need the Lord's guidance in how to go about this. I would be giving up a fulltime job and likely working only parttime, and I'm very worried about finances, etc. Please pray that I can find a place to live and also a job, in God's timing. Thank you for praying.

We are blessed by your desire to honor your elderly mother and to care for her in this season of her life, and we join you in seeking the Lord's will for this transition. This longing to be near her and to help care for her several days a week is a beautiful reflection of God's command to us. Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you. Exodus 20:12 and again Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise. Ephesians 6:2. We also remember that if anyone doesn’t provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith. 1 Timothy 5:8. Your heart to provide practical care and companionship for your mother honors God deeply.

We understand the weight of what you are considering, to leave a full time job and likely work only part time, to find new housing and employment in a new place, and the very real worry about finances that comes with such a change. It is natural to feel anxious when the path ahead is uncertain, but we are encouraged to bring these worries to the Lord. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. We also take comfort in the promise to Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 and I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you. Psalm 32:8.

The Lord knows your needs for a place to live, for suitable work, and for daily provision. Jesus reminds us But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33 and we hold fast to the assurance that My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19. He is faithful to open doors in His perfect timing, for To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1 and Yahweh directs his steps. Psalm 37:23.

We noticed you spoke of the Lord’s guidance, and we want to gently encourage you to come before the Father specifically through Jesus Christ. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God and it is only through Him that we are saved. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, believing He died for your sins and rose again, so that your prayers are heard and your future is secure in Him.

We lift you up together in prayer.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we thank You for this dear one’s tender heart toward their mother. We ask for Your clear guidance in every step of this transition. Show them whether and when to leave the full time job, lead them to the right part time work near their mother, and provide a safe and affordable place to live according to Your timing. Calm their worries about finances and help them to trust You as Jehovah Jireh, their provider. Grant them wisdom to steward resources well, to seek godly counsel, and to make decisions with peace. Bless their mother with health and comfort, and bless the time they will share together for Your glory. May Your will be done and may they feel Your hand directing their paths. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek Him daily in prayer and in His Word, to make your needs known practically by researching housing and employment opportunities near your mother, seeking wise counsel from trusted believers, and creating a budget to understand what part time provision would require. Trust that as you acknowledge Him, He will make your paths straight and provide for every need in His perfect timing.

Thank you for sharing this desire to be nearer to your mother. We hear how much you love her and want to be present to help several days a week, and also how heavy the questions feel about leaving full time work, finding a new job and housing, and making finances work.

That tension between love and worry makes sense. Wanting to honor your mother while also being responsible with provision is a lot to carry, and seeking the Lord's guidance in His timing is a steady place to remain.

As you pray, it can help to get a clearer picture before any big change. One practical next step is to map out a simple budget for what part time work near her would need to cover, and to talk it through with a trusted financial counselor, perhaps through your church or a local community agency, who can help you look at options without pressure. At the same time you could quietly explore what jobs and housing are actually available in her area and what care support she already has, so you have real information to bring before the Lord and to discuss with family.

We are praying with you for wisdom for each decision and for peace as you wait on the Lord's timing.

Father, we lift our sister to You in Jesus' name. Give her clear guidance about work and a place to live, provide for her needs, and draw her and her mother close to You as she seeks to care for her well. Lead her step by step and guard her heart with Your peace. Amen.

Your tender desire to honour your mother in her age is itself a work which the Lord looks upon with favour, for He has commanded that we should honour father and mother, and Job himself could say that he had not withheld help from those who needed his care. It is right and comely that you should seek to be near her, to visit her often and to bear a part of her burden several days each week.

I understand the heaviness of the decision that is before you, to leave a full time position and perhaps to take only part time labour, with all the anxieties about provision and a dwelling place. In such a strait the heart is apt to be troubled, as Job was troubled when the Lord seemed to hide Himself. Yet we have seen in Job how a gracious spirit is upheld. It is written, In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. He fell down upon the ground and worshipped, though his losses were great. So may you be enabled to worship even while you wait, not charging God foolishly, but keeping right with Him in patient trust.

Remember also that our longest sorrows have a close, and there is a bottom to the profoundest depths of our misery. The Lord turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends, and He will in His own time turn your captivity as you seek His face. Our sorrows shall have an end when God has gotten His end in them, which is to prove our faith, to defeat the adversary, and to bring us into a more vivid apprehension of Himself. Job had heard of God, but afterwards he saw Him, and so shall you find that waiting upon the Lord gives fresh sight and fresh strength. Though your glory may seem to fade for a season, He can anoint you with fresh oil and renew your bow in your hand.

Let us pray together that the Lord will guide you with unmistakable wisdom in this transition, that He will open a door to suitable work near your mother according to His perfect timing, and that He will provide a quiet and fitting place to live. We ask Him to supply all your need according to His riches in Christ, to calm your fears concerning finances, and to give you peace as you cast your care upon Him who cares for you. May He uphold you day by day, keep you from unbelieving speeches, and make your trust to shine like a star which never sets, till you can say with Job that though He try you, yet you will trust Him.
