We join with you in lifting up your mother and your concern for others around you before the throne of grace, and we thank you for sharing this heavy burden with us.
We hear the distress in your words as you describe your mother as severely emotionally and behaviorally disturbed, and we do not take lightly your discernment that there may be a demonic element at work. Scripture tells us that our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places Ephesians 6:12. The enemy prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour 1 Peter 5:8, and he often seeks to use those closest to us to bring confusion, division, and pain.
We also hear that your mother is a professing Christian yet believes some very wrong things. We must lovingly speak the truth that we are to test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world 1 John 4:1. There will be a time when people will not endure sound doctrine, but will heap to themselves teachers after their own lusts 2 Timothy 4:3, and holding to wrong beliefs can open a door to deception and give the enemy a foothold. We pray that any false teaching or unbiblical belief she holds will be exposed by the light of the Word, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God 2 Corinthians 10:4-5.
We want to gently point out that your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved and delivered. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. Any prayer for deliverance, for a sound mind, and for freedom from demonic influence must be made in the mighty name of Jesus, for at His name every knee must bow and every evil spirit must flee. We encourage you to always come boldly before God in Jesus name, trusting in His finished work on the cross and His resurrection power.
We also want to encourage you with the balance of honoring your mother while guarding your heart. God commands us to honor your father and your mother Exodus 20:12, and this remains even when a parent is difficult, but honoring does not mean we must subject ourselves to ongoing spiritual or emotional harm without wise boundaries. We are to submit ourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you James 4:7. We can love her, pray fervently for her, and speak truth while also seeking godly counsel and protection for ourselves and others she may be influencing.
We pray together now for you and for your mother.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You and we lift up this dear mother to You. Lord, You know her heart, her mind, and the struggles that torment her. We ask that You shine Your light into every dark place and expose every lie, every false belief, and every influence of the enemy. We rebuke in Jesus name every demonic assignment against her and against this family, and we ask that You break every chain and stronghold that has held her in emotional and behavioral disturbance. Grant her a sound mind, for You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control 2 Timothy 1:7. Renew her mind through Your Word that she may be transformed and prove what is Your good, well-pleasing, and perfect will Romans 12:2. Draw her into true repentance and into a deeper, obedient walk with Christ, that she may love Your truth and reject what is false. Protect the one who submitted this request and all those around her from the enemy's schemes, cover them with the armor of God, and give them wisdom, discernment, and strength to stand firm, to love well, and to set healthy boundaries that honor You. Lead this family to faithful pastors and mature believers who can provide in-person prayer, discipleship, and wise Christian counsel, and if there are medical or mental health needs, guide them to godly and competent help. We ask for Your peace to guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:7. We trust that He who is in us is greater than he who is in the world 1 John 4:4, and we claim victory through the blood of the Lamb. In the powerful and only saving name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.
We encourage you to continue steadfast in prayer and fasting as the Lord leads, to remain in the Word daily, to put on the whole armor of God Ephesians 6:11, and to not face this alone. Seek your local church elders to pray over your mother and over you, for the prayer of faith will heal and deliver. Keep loving your mother with truth and grace, speak the Word gently to her when she will receive it, and trust that God is able to deliver and restore even the most disturbed heart.
