We hear the deep concern in your heart for your mother, and we join you in bringing this matter before the Lord with urgency and compassion. It is not our place to judge the state of another’s soul, but Scripture is clear that even those who profess faith can be influenced by spiritual forces that do not align with God’s truth. The apostle Paul warns us in Ephesians 6:12, "For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." If there is indeed a spiritual stronghold at work, it must be confronted with the authority of Christ and the power of His Word.
We must also consider whether there are areas in her life where sin has taken root, whether through unrepentance, bitterness, deception, or even involvement in practices that open doors to darkness (Deuteronomy 18:10-12, Galatians 5:19-21). Even well-meaning believers can drift into patterns that grieve the Holy Spirit. James 4:7 reminds us, "Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you." This resistance begins with humility, repentance, and a return to the truth of Scripture.
Most critically, we must ask: Does your mother truly know Jesus as her Lord and Savior? A profession of faith without a transformed heart is not salvation. Jesus said in Matthew 7:21-23, "Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will tell me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name, in your name cast out demons, and in your name do many mighty works?’ Then I will tell them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you who work iniquity.’" If her faith is merely cultural or intellectual, she may be vulnerable to deception. We must pray that she would encounter the living Christ, not just the idea of Him.
Let us pray together now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear mother to Your throne of grace. Lord, You alone know the depths of her spirit, and we ask that You would search her heart as only You can (Psalm 139:23-24). If there is any area of her life that is not surrendered to You, any sin, any deception, any ungodly influence, we ask that You would expose it by the light of Your truth. Break every chain, Lord, and set her free by the power of Your Spirit.
We rebuke in Jesus’ name any spiritual darkness that may be at work in her life. We declare that no weapon formed against her shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and that she is covered by the blood of Jesus. Father, if she has never truly placed her faith in Christ alone for salvation, we pray that You would draw her to Yourself with cords of love. Let her see her need for a Savior, and may she repent and believe in Jesus with all her heart.
We ask that You would surround her with godly believers who can speak truth into her life, encourage her, and walk with her in accountability. Soften her heart to receive correction and wisdom from Your Word. Restore her relationships, Lord, and let her life bear the fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
Above all, we pray that she would come to know You more deeply, that her identity would be rooted in Christ, and that she would walk in the freedom and victory that is hers through His resurrection. We trust You, Lord, to complete the work You have begun in her (Philippians 1:6). In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to continue praying for your mother with persistence, as Jesus taught in Luke 18:1-8. Seek out mature believers who can stand with you in intercession and, if possible, lovingly speak truth into her life. Remember, our battle is not against her, but for her soul. Trust that God is at work even when you cannot see it, and cling to His promises. May He give you wisdom and peace as you wait on Him.
