Servant of All
Thank you for praying about my appointment with the dental specialist today. Actually, I did pretty well. I got my CAT scan, and she said she would set up a referral with pain management. Overall, though, the news really isn't very good. She still has to send the CAT scan to the radiologist to read; however, her impression upon viewing it was that my jaw is pretty well aligned. Why this isn't a good thing is that it further cements her diagnosis of movement disorder, meaning a neurological condition. She explained that splinting will not work to cure my TMJ as long as I continue to have these involuntary jaw movements. As I've said before it's coming down to one of two treatments, neither of which is a cure. I can pick from a drug that can hurt me really badly or else possibly get botox injections into my jaw every three months for the rest of my life. With each injection I run the risk of facial droop, meaning I get to walk around looking like a freak until that round of botox wears off, only to have to do it all again, thus incurring the exact same risk all over again. In addition, the repeated injections could end up paralyzing or damaging my jaw muscle for good. I'm picking between poison and poison. Oh -- And this just gets better: I had assumed my insurance would cover the cost of my pain management clinic as well as the neurologist. Then today it dawned on me to check because the dental specialist doing the referrals is not part of their network. And guess what? Looks to me like they won't cover a referral from an off-network doctor. I'm probably going to have to jump through yet another hoop, going to my in-network primary care physician for both of these referrals. And the sick joke here? I only went to an out-of-network TMJ specialist because my insurance doesn't cover TMJ unless it's for surgery. I can't take any more. Today brings my total out-of-pocket cost to the TMJ doctor to close to nine hundred dollars. I don't know what my prayer in Jesus's name should be here. Maybe I should just cut my money loss, live with the pain and just give up. I don't want to be sick and drooling and maybe the next Ozzie Osborne, and I don't want to make myself ugly. If I do nothing, I will suffer -- but at least I'll still be me and not some freak.

We lift you up before the Lord, knowing that He sees your suffering and hears your cry. Your pain—both physical and emotional—is not hidden from Him, and He cares deeply for you. The trials you face with this neurological condition, the financial strain, and the fear of losing control over your own body are heavy burdens, but we urge you not to give up. The enemy would love nothing more than for you to surrender to despair, but our God is greater, and He is able to do far more than we can ask or imagine.

First, we must remind you that your worth is not found in your appearance, your health, or your circumstances. You are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God (Psalm 139:14), and nothing—no illness, no treatment, no side effect—can change that truth. The Apostle Paul spoke of a "thorn in the flesh" that he begged God to remove, yet God’s response was, *"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness"* (2 Corinthians 12:9). This doesn’t mean God delights in your suffering, but He will use it to refine you, draw you closer to Him, and display His strength in your life. Even in this, there is purpose.

We also recognize the financial strain and the frustration of navigating a broken healthcare system. Jesus Himself told us, *"Therefore I tell you, don’t be anxious for your life: what you will eat, or what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. ... But seek God’s Kingdom, and all these things will be added to you"* (Luke 12:22-23, 31). This doesn’t mean we ignore practical steps—you should absolutely pursue every avenue to appeal insurance decisions, seek financial assistance if available, and steward your resources wisely. But it *does* mean we trust God to provide, even when the path seems impossible. Remember the widow’s oil (2 Kings 4:1-7)—God multiplies what little we have when we place it in His hands.

As for the treatments ahead, we pray for wisdom. The fear of side effects is real, and the risks are daunting. But we encourage you to seek the Lord’s guidance in this decision, rather than making it out of fear alone. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, *"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."* This doesn’t guarantee an easy path, but it does promise that God will direct you. Consult with godly believers, medical professionals, and spend time in prayer, asking the Holy Spirit to lead you. If Botox or medication is the route you must take, ask God to minimize the side effects and use it for His glory. If He leads you to wait, ask Him for the strength to endure.

We must also address the temptation to "just give up." That is not the spirit of a child of God. Job, in his suffering, said, *"Though he slay me, yet I will hope in him"* (Job 13:15). Even in the darkest valleys, we cling to Christ. Giving up is not an option when we serve a God who specializes in redemption. He can turn your pain into a testimony, your weakness into a platform for His strength, and your suffering into a means of comforting others (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

Lastly, we notice you questioned how to pray in Jesus’ name. Let us be clear: there is *no other name* under heaven by which we are saved, and it is *only* through Christ that we approach the Father (John 14:6, Acts 4:12). When we pray "in Jesus’ name," we are acknowledging that our requests are aligned with His will, submitted to His authority, and dependent on His righteousness—not our own. It is not a magical phrase but a posture of surrender. Even when you don’t know what to pray, the Holy Spirit intercedes for you with groanings too deep for words (Romans 8:26). So come boldly before the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16), and lay this burden at His feet.

**Our Prayer for You:**
Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister, lifting up their pain, their fear, and their weariness. Lord, You see the involuntary movements of their jaw, the financial strain, and the weight of these impossible choices. We ask for Your healing touch—whether through medical intervention, a miraculous intervention, or the strength to endure. Give them wisdom beyond their own understanding as they navigate treatments, and provide for their financial needs in ways they cannot foresee. Protect them from the enemy’s lies that they are defined by this illness or that giving up is the only option. Remind them that their identity is in Christ alone, and that You are making all things new—even this.

We rebuke the spirit of fear and despair in Jesus’ name. Replace it with Your peace that surpasses understanding. Surround them with Your presence, and let them feel the comfort of the Holy Spirit in tangible ways. Use this trial to draw them closer to You, and may their testimony bring glory to Your name. We ask for a breakthrough—whether in healing, provision, or supernatural endurance. Let them see Your hand at work, even in the waiting.

And Lord, if they have not already, we pray they would surrender this entirely to You. Not their will, but Yours be done. In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Healer and Provider, we pray. Amen.

We're right there with you, friend. It's tough when it feels like there's no good news, just one tough decision after another. But remember, even in the midst of this, God is with you. He sees your struggle, and He cares deeply.

We know you're feeling overwhelmed with the financial burden, and it's easy to feel trapped or helpless. But let's not forget that God is our Provider, and He promises to meet our needs. It might not look like we expect, but He is faithful. Let's ask Him to open up unexpected avenues for financial help, and trust that He will provide in His own unique way.

We also want to encourage you to keep seeking God's will in this. It's okay to feel uncertain about the treatments ahead, but let's not make decisions out of fear. Let's ask God for wisdom, and trust that He will guide your steps. If Botox or medication is the path He leads you to, let's ask Him to minimize the side effects and use it for His glory. If He leads you to wait, let's ask Him for the strength to endure.

And hey, it's okay to not have all the answers. It's okay to not know how to pray. The Holy Spirit intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. So let's just come before God, lay our burden at His feet, and trust that He is working everything out for our good.

Keep fighting, friend. We're fighting with you. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
