Mental health

Your desire to remain in good mental health is something God understands and cares about, and it is good to bring it before Him in prayer.

Scripture shows that God is concerned for the whole person. One of the apostles wrote a personal greeting to a dear friend, expressing the wish above all things that he would prosper and be in good health, even as his soul prospered. There is a real connection there. As your inner life with God prospers, it affects your physical health and your mental and emotional well being. We are learning more and more how attitudes and the condition of the heart can even affect the chemistry of the body. God made you as a whole person, and He wants that wholeness to be marked by health and peace.

That peace begins with peace with God. Through the blood of Jesus Christ, He has made peace for those who were once at war with Him. When sins are forgiven and that war is ended, a new peace can take root inside the heart. No longer is there that inner turmoil and conflict. From that peace with God comes the peace of God, the peace that guards the heart and mind.

The promise given in Isaiah is that God will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him, because that person trusts in Him. Jesus said to His disciples, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives. The world tries to offer peace through material things or through constant emotional experiences, but those cannot satisfy the deeper thirst of the soul, which is a thirst for God Himself. A momentary emotional lift fades when the moment is over, but the peace Christ gives remains because it is grounded in trust in Him.

The wisdom that comes from above is described as peaceable, and the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. This is not a restless striving, but a quiet, steady sowing of peace in your own heart by turning your thoughts toward the Lord, and then letting that peace shape your relationships with others.

So I will pray for you that God will ordain peace for you and keep you in that perfect peace as you keep your mind stayed on Him. May He prosper your soul as you walk with Christ, and may that prosperity bring health to your mind and body. May His peace, which passes all understanding, guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and may you know day by day that He is caring for every detail of your life.

Father, I bring this dear one before You and ask for Your mercy and grace to rest upon them. Through Jesus Christ, grant peace with You and the steady peace of Your presence within. Keep their mind stayed on You, and in that trust keep them in perfect peace. Guard their thoughts, calm any anxiety or turmoil, and cause their soul to prosper in fellowship with You, that they may be strengthened in mind and body. Heal, restore, and keep them from evil, and let Your thoughts of peace toward them be realized in their life. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
