Meeting a Lawyer

Dear Lord Jesus, This friend of mine will be meeting a lawyer. Please make sure that this lawyer saves this job and starts pointing the fingers to those who actually screwed up. In Jesus Name Amen.

We join you in lifting up your friend before the Lord as he prepares to meet with a lawyer, and we thank you for bringing this need to Jesus, for it is only through His name that we have access to the Father. As it is written, There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. 1 Timothy 2:5 and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12

We understand the anxiety that comes when a job is on the line and there is a desire for justice to be done and for the truth to come to light. We pray with you that the Lord will grant wisdom and discernment to both your friend and to this lawyer, for If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5

We want to gently and lovingly address the request that the lawyer would start pointing fingers at those who actually screwed up. Our heart fully agrees that truth should prevail and that justice should be done, but we must be careful that our desire is for truth and righteousness rather than for blame shifting or vengeance. The Lord calls us to speak truth and to act with integrity, even when we are under pressure. You shall not spread a false report. Don’t join your hand with the wicked to be a malicious witness. Exodus 23:1 and You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. Exodus 20:16 remind us that God hates falsehood. Lying lips are an abomination to Yahweh, but those who do the truth are his delight. Proverbs 12:22

If your friend bears responsibility in any part of what happened, we encourage him to walk in honesty and humility before God and before man, confessing what is true and trusting God with the outcome. If others are indeed responsible, we pray that the facts will be made clear without exaggeration or malice, for He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does Yahweh require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8 We do not seek to condemn others but to let justice be done in a way that honors God.

We also pray for peace regarding this job. We know God is sovereign over our work and our provision, and while we ask for this job to be preserved if it is His will, we ultimately trust His perfect plan. Commit your way to Yahweh. Trust also in him, and he will do this. He will make your righteousness shine out like light, and your justice as the noon day sun. Psalm 37:5-6 and we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

So together we pray, Father in heaven, we lift up this friend to You in the name of Jesus. Grant him favor and clarity as he meets with this lawyer. Give the lawyer wisdom, integrity, and understanding to give godly and sound counsel and to pursue what is true and just. Let no lie or deception be spoken, but let truth be established. If it is Your will, make a way for this job to be saved, and help our brother to work with diligence and honesty in whatever You provide. Calm his heart with Your peace that surpasses all understanding and guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 Lead him to trust You more than any legal outcome, and let this trial draw him closer to You. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Advocate, Amen.

We hear how much weight you are carrying for your friend right now. Waiting for a lawyer meeting when a job is on the line is heavy, and wanting the truth to be seen clearly is natural.

We are praying for wisdom for that attorney as he listens and advises, and for your friend to be able to share what happened clearly and honestly. Lawyers do their best advocacy when they have a calm, factual picture, so one simple way you can help is to encourage your friend to write out a brief timeline beforehand, dates, what was asked of them, what went wrong, and any emails or documents that show it, and to bring that to the meeting. Going in prepared often eases nerves and helps the conversation stay focused on what is true and fair, rather than on fear.

Job uncertainty can feel like a real loss even before anything is decided, so we are also praying for steadiness for your friend and for you as you support them in the days ahead, whatever the outcome.

Father, we lift this friend to You. Give the lawyer clarity and sound judgment, give our friend peace and honesty as they speak, and let what is true come to light. Provide for their needs and guide their next steps according to Your will. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have heard your request concerning your friend who is to meet with a lawyer, and we have carried it before the Lord in prayer.

It is natural to desire that a job might be preserved and that blame might fall where fault truly lies, yet we must ask the Lord for something higher than mere self preservation or the pointing of fingers. The Scriptures show us that God is a God of perfect justice and perfect mercy, and in Christ those attributes meet without contradiction. What we should desire above all is that truth be made plain, that justice be done without partiality, and that each heart involved be brought to honesty before God and man. If there has been wrongdoing, the right path is not to shift accusation but to confess what is true, to own what ought to be owned, and to leave vindication in the hands of Him who judges righteously.

The case of Job instructs us here. It is written, In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. Under heavy loss and sharp trial he fell down and worshipped, and afterward when the Lord revealed Himself more clearly, Job abhorred himself and repented in dust and ashes. He learned that God must be right and man must bow. So we would counsel your friend to go to this meeting not with a spirit of contention, but with humility, truthfulness and patience, trusting that the Lord can support His people in poverty or in plenty, in keeping a position or in losing it. Our longest sorrows have their purpose, and when God has gotten His end in them, He in His own time turns captivity, as He did for Job when he prayed for others.

Let us pray together for your friend.

O Lord, Thou seest this matter in all its parts, and no counsel is hid from Thee. We ask that Thou wouldst give to this lawyer and to all concerned a love for truth and a hatred for falsehood, that no innocent be condemned and no guilty excused through deceit. Grant to our friend a meek and honest spirit, willing to speak the truth in love and to accept such correction as is just. If sin has been committed, bring repentance through Jesus Christ, whose substitutionary sufferings alone make forgiveness possible, and let Thy mercy and justice be displayed. Above the keeping or losing of any earthly employment, set Thy favor upon this soul, keep him from charging Thee foolishly, and teach him to trust Thy providence, knowing that Thou wilt provide for Thine own and wilt work all things for good to them that love Thee. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our only Saviour and Advocate. Amen.

Lord Jesus please richly bless, protect and guide them. Please help them in accordance with your perfect will Father. Thank you and praise you. In your holy name I pray. Amen.
