We join you in lifting up your friend before the Lord and we thank you for bringing his need to Jesus, for it is only through His name that we have access to the Father and it is in His name that we are heard. We rejoice that you prayed in Jesus name.

We pray with you for this hardworking friend who is facing trouble at his job and is considering legal help. We understand the stress and uncertainty that comes with the possibility of losing work that he needs and we ask God to provide wisdom, peace, and provision in this difficult time. Scripture reminds us, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. James 1:5. We ask God to give your friend clear wisdom as he decides whether to hire an attorney, and if he does, to guide him to an honest, skilled and affordable counselor who will pursue what is just and true. We also remember the promise, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7.

We want to gently address one part of this request with love and truth. You asked that God would help him win and bother those who caused the messes he is in. We understand the desire for justice when we feel wronged, but God calls us to seek justice with integrity and to leave vengeance in His hands. We are not to seek to bother, harass, or get revenge on others, even those who have wronged us. The Lord says, Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. Romans 12:19. And Jesus calls us to a higher way, But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you, Matthew 5:44. Seeking a lawyer to protect his job and to seek what is fair and lawful can be right and wise, for God Himself says Learn to do well. Seek justice. Relieve the oppressed. Isaiah 1:17, but the motive should be truth and righteousness, not retaliation.

We encourage your friend to walk in honesty before God and before any attorney he consults, to tell the whole truth, to act with integrity at work, and to trust the outcome to the Lord whether the job is preserved or God leads him elsewhere. We are called to Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6. And Commit your way to Yahweh. Trust also in him, and he will do this. Psalm 37:5.

We pray together now for him.

Father in heaven, we lift up this dear friend to You in the name of Jesus Christ. You see his hard work, his needs, and the trouble surrounding his job. We ask You to grant him wisdom beyond his own understanding as he considers legal counsel. Lead him to the right attorney if it is Your will, one who is affordable, competent and honest, who will advocate for what is just. We pray that truth would prevail and that justice would be done according to Your righteousness, not according to revenge. Guard his heart from bitterness and help him to forgive those who have caused him harm, even as he seeks to protect his livelihood rightly. Provide for his needs, open doors for his work, and give him Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Let Your will be done in his employment, and use this trial to draw him closer to You and to show him that You are his ultimate defender and provider. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our Advocate and Lord, amen.

Father, we lift this friend to You. You see his diligence and the weight he is carrying about his job. Give him wisdom as he weighs whether to hire an attorney, provide competent and affordable counsel if that is the path he needs, and guard his heart with peace in the waiting. Your request on behalf of your friend has been brought before the Lord with thankfulness for your love toward him. It is a blessed thing to stand in the gap for another, to bear a brother's burden to the mercy seat, and the Lord delights in such intercession.

We are reminded of Job, of whom it is written, In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. He lost much, he suffered deeply, yet he fell down and worshipped, and kept right with God under the trial. And again it is written, The Lord turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends. His sorrows had an end when God had accomplished His purpose in them, and his prayer for those who had spoken harshly against him became the turning point of his deliverance. There is wisdom here for us, to be patient under pressure, to trust the justice and goodness of God, and to pray not only for our friends but also for those who have dealt hardly with us.

We have prayed for your friend, that the Lord who sees his hard work and his need would provide for him according to His perfect wisdom. We have asked the Father in the name of Jesus Christ, the only Mediator between God and man, that He would grant your friend clear guidance, and if it be His will to use a lawyer, that He would provide a competent and affordable counselor, a man of integrity and skill, to give wise advice and to act justly on his behalf. We have asked that the Lord would preserve his employment if it be for his good and for God's glory, and that truth and fairness would prevail in all that concerns his job.

You asked also that God would bother those who caused the messes he is in. We cannot ask the Lord to do harm or to trouble others out of revenge, for vengeance belongs to the Lord and He has taught us to pray for those who oppose us, as Job prayed for his friends. So we have prayed instead that God would deal justly with all involved, that He would restrain what is wrong, correct what is unjust, bring to light what needs to be seen, and work repentance and peace where there has been strife. Our desire is not that any should be bothered, but that righteousness and mercy would meet, and that all hearts would be brought into submission to God.

May your friend be enabled to wait upon the Lord with patience, to commit his cause to Him who judges righteously, and to seek first the kingdom of God. May he know that even the longest sorrows have a close when God has gotten His purpose in them, and that He is able to support and keep those who trust Him.

We will continue to remember him before the Lord.

Our Father in heaven, we lift this hardworking man before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. You know his labor, his need, and the burden upon his job. Grant him wisdom from above, provide for him honest and affordable help if a lawyer is needed, and let justice be done. We do not pray for vengeance or that trouble would come upon others, even those who may have caused harm. God calls us to desire justice mingled with mercy, to not pervert justice for any person, and to leave vindication in His hands while we pursue what is right with a clear conscience. Instead we pray that truth would come to light, that what is just would be done for all involved, and that God would work in the hearts of everyone concerned, including those your friend feels have wronged him, drawing them toward repentance and reconciliation where possible.

We also pray for your friend's work and provision. Job reminds us to bear every trial thankfully and to trust God whether He gives or takes away, knowing that our greatest loss would be to lose fellowship with Him. May your friend be strengthened to act with integrity, patience and self restraint through this difficulty, and to trust the Lord's perfect justice and mercy even as he takes practical steps to address his employment needs.

Your prayer for your friend shows real care, and it is good to bring his need before the Lord.

God makes His heart clear in Scripture. In Isaiah He calls His people to keep judgment and do justice, to live in a way that is fair and honest before Him and before others. He does not want cheating or taking advantage, but doing what is right. Scripture says the person who lives that way is blessed. That is the foundation for any matter that touches the courts, that we would seek what is right and true, not simply what benefits us.

At the same time the Bible is honest about how far human justice can fall short. Isaiah also describes a time when justice stands far off and truth has fallen in the street, when no one is really calling for what is right. That description fits what many experience today. Even where judgment and justice should prevail, in the judicial system, justice cannot be assured. Often the outcome depends not on what is right but on what a person can afford, whether he can secure strong counsel or not, and that is not equal justice. The poor are at a disadvantage and the wealthy have advantages that should not determine what is right. God Himself speaks against that kind of favoritism and calls judges to do justice for the afflicted and needy without partiality. When justice is perverted the whole social order suffers, because God is a God of righteousness and He wants righteousness to prevail.

There is also the injustice we see in the story of Jesus before Pilate, where an innocent man was condemned despite the judge knowing what was right. That was the greatest miscarriage of justice in history, yet through it God satisfied His own righteous justice by letting His Son bear our sins, so that we who deserve judgment could receive mercy. Justice is getting what we deserve, mercy is not getting what we deserve, and grace is getting what we do not deserve. We thank God that when we come to Him for salvation we do not ask for justice but for mercy through Jesus Christ.

For your friend, this means praying not simply for a win or for trouble to come on those who have caused difficulty, but for true justice to be done in a way that honors God. It is right to ask God for wisdom to find competent and affordable counsel, for honesty in every step, and for provision for his job and daily needs. It is also right to leave vengeance with the Lord and to ask Him to work with fairness toward everyone involved, even those your friend feels have wronged him.

Praying now for him, that the Lord would guide him to wise and honest counsel if a lawyer is needed, that God would provide what is needed at a cost he can bear, that he would be given clarity to act with integrity and to trust the Lord with the outcome. Pray that he would do what is right before God and man, that his work would be preserved if it is the Lord's will, and that he would know the peace of the One who will one day judge the world in righteousness and in truth. Above all pray that he would walk in the light of God's mercy through Jesus, knowing that the only true and final justice will come when God Himself judges uprightly.
