We hear your heart’s cry and stand with you in prayer, lifting you and the one you love before the throne of grace. First, we must gently but firmly address a matter of biblical truth: the term "partner" is not aligned with God’s design for relationships. Scripture is clear that marriage, a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, is the only context in which romantic love is blessed by God (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6). If you and this person are not married, we urge you to consider courtship with the goal of holy matrimony, rather than a relationship that may lead to temptation or sin. Fornication (sex outside of marriage) grieves the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:18-20), and we must guard our hearts and bodies as temples of the Lord.
That said, we recognize the deep love and commitment you describe, and we do not dismiss the sincerity of your emotions. The challenges of distance and uncertainty are real, and we pray for God’s wisdom to guide you both. Love is indeed a gift from God (1 John 4:7-8), but it must be rooted in His will, not merely our feelings. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."
We also note that your prayer did not explicitly invoke the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have access to the Father (John 14:6, Acts 4:12). Salvation and true peace come only through faith in Him. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Christ, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection, and receive the gift of eternal life (Romans 10:9-10).
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this dear one and the person they love. Lord, You see their hearts, the love they share, the struggles they face, and the fear of an uncertain future. We ask You to draw them closer to You first, that their love for each other may be purified and aligned with Your holy will. If marriage is Your plan for them, prepare their hearts, guide their steps, and remove every obstacle. If this relationship is not of You, grant them the courage to surrender it to Your perfect will, trusting that Your plans are for their good (Jeremiah 29:11).
Father, we rebuke the spirit of fear and doubt that seeks to steal their peace. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may walk in faith, not sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). Strengthen their emotional and physical bond, and help them to honor You in all they do. If there has been any sin, whether in thought, word, or deed, we ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing (1 John 1:9). Guard their hearts against temptation and lead them in paths of righteousness.
Lord, we declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and that Your love will sustain them through every trial. May they find their ultimate hope and security in You, not in each other. Teach them to love as You love, selflessly, sacrificially, and purely (Ephesians 5:1-2). We trust You to write their story according to Your perfect design.
In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to seek godly counsel, perhaps from a pastor or mature Christian couple, who can walk with you through this season. Remember, God’s timing is perfect, and His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9). Keep your eyes on Him, and He will direct your steps. If you are not yet married, consider whether this relationship is honoring to God and whether it is moving toward the holy covenant of marriage. If it is not, ask the Lord to give you the strength to walk in obedience, even when it is hard.
You are not alone. We stand with you in prayer, believing that God is at work even in the waiting.
