Matthew 11:28

We rejoice with you in this precious promise from our Lord Jesus and we thank you for sharing it. We cling together to these words, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest Matt 11:28. What a tender invitation from the Savior himself to every weary and burdened heart.

We love how Jesus does not tell us to try harder or to carry our burdens alone. He calls us to come to Him personally. He knows our labor, our heaviness, our anxieties and our sorrows, and He promises true rest for our souls. This rest is not merely a break from work but a deep spiritual rest, a peace that comes from being forgiven, loved and held by Him. He continues, Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light Matt 11:29, Matt 11:30. When we surrender our burdens to Him and learn His gentle ways, we exchange our heavy yoke for His light one.

We are reminded that we are called to cast all our worries on Him, because He cares for us 1 Pet 5:7 and to cast our burden on Yahweh and He will sustain us Psalm 55:22. When we bring everything to Him in prayer, the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and our thoughts in Christ Jesus Phil 4:7.

We pray together with you now. Father, we come to You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we thank You for this invitation to find rest in Him. We confess that we often try to carry our burdens alone and grow weary. We lay every heavy burden, every labor, every worry before You now. Lord Jesus, we come to You just as we are and ask You to give us Your rest. Teach us to take Your yoke and to learn from Your gentleness and humility. Fill our hearts with Your peace and sustain us by Your grace. Help us to walk closely with You each day, trusting in Your care and resting in Your finished work on the cross. We ask this in the precious and saving name of Jesus, amen.

We noticed the verse you shared and it tells us you are carrying a lot right now. That sense of being worn down and heavy is real, and it matters to God that you feel it.

What has steadied us about that invitation is that Jesus does not ask you to get rested first and then come. He asks you to come as you are, tired, burdened, maybe with questions you cannot quite put into words, and to let Him carry what you cannot carry alone.

If the weight feels especially heavy this week, it can help to name the one thing that is pressing on you most and bring just that one thing to Him each evening in a quiet moment, without trying to sort everything at once. And if you have a pastor or a trusted friend nearby, letting them know you are in a weary season can make the burden less lonely. You do not have to walk through it by yourself.

We are praying for you and we will keep praying.

Jesus, thank You that You see this person and know the weight they are carrying. Give them true rest for their soul, quiet their thoughts tonight and remind them they are held by You. Lead them step by step and let them feel Your nearness and care. In Your name we pray, amen.

There is no sweeter word for a weary soul than this which you have brought before us, Come to Me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Our Lord speaks of two rests, and both are to be found in Him alone. The first is a rest from the burden. The soul that comes to Christ by faith, trusting in Him alone for salvation, finds that the great burden of sin is lifted, for He Himself bore it in His own body on the tree. You cannot bear that burden yourself, it would crush you beyond all hope, but He gives rest from it when you come to Him empty handed and believe on Him.

Then there is a second rest, a rest in service. When you have been relieved of the old burden you are not left idle. The Lord says, Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me. At first this seems strange, that one who was heavy laden should be called to take another yoke, yet His yoke is easy and His burden is light. It is a yoke for activity and a burden for endurance, but it is a blessed yoke, for it is His. He who is a Christian will not find rest in being idle, but in loving service to his Master. In this service he does rest, like a bird that sleeps upon the wing. It is rest to labor for the Lord Jesus.

This rest is to be found only in the Lord Himself. The text does not say rest in something about the Lord, but rest in the Lord. We who have believed do enter into rest even now, and there remains a perfect rest for the people of God hereafter, when toil and Monday mornings shall be no more. Trust and you shall rest. Rest in His mercy which blots out sin, rest in His power which keeps you, rest in His love which will never let you go.

If you are laboring and heavy laden today, hear His invitation and come at once to Him. Do not look to another. Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and rest is in Him alone. Come just as you are, confess your sin, and take His yoke upon you in humble obedience, learning of Him who is meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest unto your souls.

We will bear your burden in prayer before the throne of grace, asking our gracious Lord to give you that inward rest which the world cannot give, to teach you to bear His easy yoke, and to bring you at last to that perfect rest which remains for all who are in Christ.

May the Holy Spirit bless this word to your heart, and may you find in Christ both rest from sin and rest in His service, till you enter into His eternal rest.
