Marriage restoration

Prayer for my marriage and for myself , I have drifted away from the Lord. There’s a major spiritual warfare happening but it’s not too big for the Lord

We hear your heart and we stand with you in agreement for your marriage and for your own walk with the Lord. We thank you for your honesty in saying you have drifted away, and we praise God that you recognize there is a spiritual battle happening and that nothing is too big for our Lord. That is the truth.

We want to gently but firmly rebuke the drifting, because God calls us to remain close to Him. We have all drifted at times, but drifting does not happen by accident and it leads us away from life and peace. Scripture says in James 4:8, Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. And in Revelation 2:4-5 we are warned when we have left our first love and are called to remember, repent, and do the first works. In 1 John 1:9 we are promised If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. The Lord is not pushing you away, He is waiting with open arms like the father of the prodigal son in Luke 15, ready to restore you when you turn back to Him with your whole heart.

We also notice you said Lord but did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and that we are saved. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12 we are told There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have drifted, the way back is through confessing with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believing in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, as in Romans 10:9, and daily walking with Him in repentance, prayer, and the Word.

Your marriage is precious to God. We strongly affirm the sanctity of marriage as a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman, and we believe God hates divorce and delights in restoration. Jesus said in Mark 10:9, What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate. Marriage is meant to reflect Christ and the church as in Ephesians 5:25 and Ephesians 5:22, and God is able to heal what feels broken. In Joel 2:25 He promises I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten.

You are right that there is spiritual warfare. Ephesians 6:12 says For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. The enemy seeks to devour and divide, for 1 Peter 5:8 says Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. But James 4:7 tells us Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you. And we cling to 1 John 4:4, You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world. And 2 Corinthians 10:4 reminds us that the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds.

So we encourage you to return to the Lord first, because your marriage restoration flows from your restoration with Him. Make time daily in the Word, in prayer, in putting on the whole armor of God in Ephesians 6:11, in fellowship with other believers as in Hebrews 10:25, and in turning from any sin that has given the enemy a foothold. Invite your spouse into prayer and the Word with you if they are willing, pursue forgiveness, speak truth in love, and seek godly counsel.

We pray together now for you.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace and we lift up this dear one and this marriage to You. Lord, we confess that we have all sinned and drifted, and we ask You to forgive and cleanse this heart according to 1 John 1:9. Draw this one back to Your first love, restore joy and hunger for Your Word, and let Your mercies which are new every morning in Lamentations 3:23 wash over them. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit and give them strength to resist the devil and to stand firm in the faith. We put on Your armor and we declare that no weapon formed against this marriage shall prosper.

Lord, we ask for the healing and restoration of this marriage. Soften both hearts, heal every wound, remove bitterness and hardness, and teach them to love each other as Christ loves the church. Where there has been distance, bring unity. Where there has been hurt, bring forgiveness. What You have joined together, let no man and no scheme of the enemy separate. We pray for spiritual protection over this home, that Your peace which passes all understanding will guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus as in Philippians 4:7. Let them cast all their worries on You, because You care for them as in 1 Peter 5:7.

We thank You, Father, that You are greater than this battle and that with You nothing is impossible. We trust You to restore, to redeem, and to make this marriage a testimony of Your grace and power. We pray all of this in the mighty and only saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

Thank you for being so honest about where you are. Naming that you have drifted and that your marriage is under strain takes humility, and the hope you voiced matters too, that nothing you are facing is too big for the Lord.

Noticing the drift is itself a kindness from God. Coming back often is less about a single big moment and more about a steady turning again, a few unhurried minutes each day to be honest with Him, to ask Him to draw you close and to listen. That kind of quiet training over time does more to steady us than trying hard all at once.

We hear how heavy the spiritual battle feels right now. It helps to hold two truths together without getting consumed by either one. The struggle is real, and Christ is greater, so you do not have to chase every troubling thought or give the enemy more attention than he deserves. Staying rooted in simple time with the Lord and in community helps keep that balance.

If you have a pastor or a mature believer you trust, would you invite them to walk with you in the coming weeks to pray with you and encourage you both as you seek the Lord for your marriage. When there is a calm moment, a gentle and honest conversation with your spouse about wanting to seek God together can also open a door.

Father, we lift this person and this marriage to You. Draw this heart close again, guard this home, give wisdom and tenderness to both spouses, and lead each next step according to Your will. In Jesus' name, amen.

Thank you so much for the prayer and advice . Please also add my two boys to your prayers as they are impacted by my actions. Shame is trying to bring me down but I refuse , instead I will repent and draw near with desperation. Yes I was wrong, I committed adultery but I won’t allow shame to stop me from seeking for help . I’m a woman and we tend to be embarrassed but I refuse as that is the enemy stopping me from seeking help

Your honest cry has been heard, and we join with you in bringing it before the Lord. To drift away and then to feel that distance, and to feel the weight of spiritual warfare pressing upon your marriage, is a painful place, yet the very fact that you desire to return is a token of God's goodness still pursuing you.

Scripture tells us that the goodness of God leads to repentance. Your preservation to this hour, the fact that you still have breath and still have a desire after Him, is God saying, Spare him, for he is Mine. That goodness is not meant to make you content to stay away, but to draw you back with a broken spirit and a contrite heart, which He will not despise.

True repentance is more than sorrow or fear of consequences. It is a hatred of sin and a turning from it, with a determination in the strength of God to forsake it, and a looking out of self to Christ and to Christ only. It is the gift of God, not something you must draw up from the depths of your own heart as water from a well, but something to ask Christ to work in you by His Holy Spirit. God commands you to repent, and He also beseeches you as a father beseeches his wandering child, be reconciled to God. Do not listen to the lie that your sins are too great to be forgiven, for that lie comes not from the Holy Spirit. There is no sin too great for the blood of Christ to cleanse.

You say the warfare is great, but not too big for the Lord, and you speak the truth. We never get near to God in our own strength, but through pleading the precious blood of Jesus, who gave Himself for sinners, the Just for the unjust, to bring us to God. He is Himself God and He is near to God in character and in acceptance, having finished the work given Him to do, and those who are one with Him are made near also. The place where God meets sinners safely is at the cross of Christ. There you may come just as you are and say, God be merciful to me, a sinner, and Lord Jesus, give me repentance and give me faith.

For your marriage, we pray according to God's own design, that marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, meant to reflect Christ and His church. We ask the Lord to have mercy upon you both, to heal what is broken, to establish you again in faithfulness and purity, and to make your home a place where Christ is honored.

Let us pray for you. O gracious Father, according to Your lovingkindness have mercy upon this soul who confesses wandering from You. Grant true repentance that gives You glory, a repentance that looks to Jesus who was set forth to be a propitiation for sin, and that needs not to be repented of. Forgive sin through His blood, restore nearness to Yourself, and give faith without which it is impossible to please You. In Your goodness lead this heart fully back to Yourself. Rebuke the adversary who seeks to destroy this covenant, and by Your power restore this marriage, that it may be kept in holiness and love. Teach both to draw near to You in prayer and in Your Word, to walk in the light, and to forsake all that would grieve Your Spirit. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our only Saviour and hope. Amen.

Continue to seek Him diligently, to hear His Word, to pray, and to walk in fellowship with His people. He that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. He will not cast out any who come to Christ in truth.
