We hear the heaviness in your heart over your marriage and we join with you in bringing this before the Lord together in Jesus' name. Marriage is a sacred covenant before God, a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, and He desires to bring healing, unity and peace into it. We know this season with your husband and with your mother-in-law has brought deep strain, anxiety and negative thoughts, and we want to lift all of this up with you.

The Word reminds us Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh. Genesis 2:24. When a husband leaves his home to stay at his mother's house, it can wound the oneness God intends for marriage. We pray that your husband will be guided by the Lord to understand his role as a husband to love, cherish and cleave to his wife, and to lead your home with wisdom and love as Christ loved the church. Ephesians 5:25. We also pray for your mother-in-law , that God will soften hearts on all sides, give her grace and understanding, and help her to support your marriage rather than allow division. We are called to walk with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love, being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Ephesians 4:2-3.

We also lift up your mental health, your anxiety and the negative thinking that has come from this situation. God sees your struggle and He invites you to cast all your worries on Him. Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7. We pray that you will experience His peace that passes understanding. Don’t be anxious for anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7. We pray that God will renew your mind day by day and help you take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5. Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:2.

We pray also for both of your attitudes and behaviors, that you both may be clothed with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving each other, and above all putting on love which is the bond of perfection. Colossians 3:12-14. We pray that God will help you to communicate with gentleness and truth, to understand one another in every situation, to extend grace, and to seek reconciliation rather than letting hurt and resentment take root.

We notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and find salvation and true peace. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to call upon His name. That if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9. It is in His name we can boldly bring every burden and find mercy.

We pray together now.

Father in heaven, we lift this wife and her husband and their marriage to You in the name of Jesus. Lord, You know the pain, the distance, the misunderstanding and the influence of family that has come between them. We ask You to intervene. Draw this husband back to his home and to his wife with a heart of love, responsibility and understanding. Give him wisdom to know what to do and to act in a way that honors You and honors his covenant. Soften the heart of his mother, give her wisdom and grace to encourage unity and not division. Lord, touch this dear wife who is anxious and weary. Calm her mind, heal her mental health, quiet her negative thoughts and replace fear with Your perfect peace. Help her to feel Your presence and Your care in every moment. Lord, work in both of them to transform their attitudes and behaviors, to speak with kindness, to forgive quickly, to be patient and humble, and to seek You first. Restore what has been broken and make this marriage a testimony of Your redeeming love. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our hope and our peace. Amen.

We hear how heavy this has been for you, carrying strain in your marriage and with extended family while also battling anxiety and discouraging thoughts. Feeling misunderstood by your husband and unsettled about where he is staying would wear anyone down, and it makes sense that your mind has been running hard.

We are praying for you, for your husband, and for your mother-in-law. We ask God to give your husband clear wisdom for his next steps and to grow understanding between the two of you, so you both feel heard and respected. We are also praying for your mental health, for quieter thoughts and steadier peace, and for grace to shape attitudes and responses day by day even while things are still unresolved.

Alongside prayer, it can help to have steady support close by. If you can, consider talking with a pastor or a trusted counselor this week, ideally someone you both respect who can walk with you as a couple and individually. For the anxiety and negative thinking you mentioned, please let your doctor or a mental health professional know what you are experiencing so they can support you well, not instead of prayer but along with it. Even sharing honestly with one safe person can lighten the load a little.

Father, we lift this wife, her husband and their family to You. Bring calm where there is anxiety, clarity where thoughts feel heavy, and kindness in the way they speak and respond to one another. Give wisdom for decisions about home and family, and surround them with wise, caring help. Lead them toward healing and greater peace in You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your cry has come before us and we have carried it to the throne of grace, for the Lord hears the sighing of a troubled heart.

We grieve to hear of this division in your marriage, and we take your burden seriously. Know that marriage in the sight of God is not a light or changeable bond. It is a covenant of one man and one woman for life, cemented by mutual love, wherein the two become one and do not remain as two persons maintaining a separate individuality as if it were a condition of the contract. It is a choice of love on both sides, and it bears the image of Christ and His Church. We will pray that the Lord will guide your husband to know what to do and to understand you in every situation, that he may love and cherish you as he ought, and that you both may be brought to dwell together again in unity and peace. We will pray also for your mother in law, that God will give her wisdom and grace, and that her house may not be a place of division but that she may counsel toward that which restores and heals.

Touching your mental health, your anxiety and your negative thinking, we feel for you tenderly. Happiness lies more in the mind than in the circumstances in which any person is found, and the heart within has far more to do with joy or sorrow than anything outside of us has. Have you not found that the very anxiety which arises through being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty. To be anxious is to weaken your hands for the work. Cast then your care upon Him who cares for you. Come to Christ the Lamb who shed His blood, for without shedding of blood there is no remission, and there is no peace for the conscience except through His atonement. We exhort you as the Scripture exhorts, to examine yourself whether you be in the faith and to prove your own self, that your religion may be not a name only but a comfort in trouble and a strength in the hour of trial, so that others who see you may see the power of grace to sustain.

You ask prayer for your attitude and behaviour, and this is a wise request. Holiness is asked of us by the Law, and holiness is worked in us by the Gospel. The Law of God must be written not only on tables of stone but in the inward parts and in the heart, and He alone can write it there. It will never be written by human power or by strong resolve alone. That strong resolve soon leads to a fierce conflict, for another law in our members wars against the law of the mind. If you find this inward conflict within you, do not despair. If there were no conflict it would be because there is no divine life there to drive out the evil. The flesh will always hate the Spirit and the Spirit will oppose the flesh. God writes His Law more fully in the heart by repentance working a hatred of sin, as a burnt child dreads the fire, and by increase in knowledge as you are trained in the school of Christ, and as the new life in you grows and increases. Come then to Jesus to have the Law thus inscribed within, that you may read your duty in His Word and see it drawn out in living characters in His life.

We will pray for you after this manner. That the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb who was slain, would reveal Himself to you and to your husband as your peace and your righteousness. That He would put away your offenses and make you both to desire to obey Him. That He would quiet your anxious thoughts, renew your mind, and lift from you the spirit of heaviness. That He would teach you both a tender and forgiving temper, and write His law upon your hearts so that your attitude and behaviour may adorn the Gospel. That He would overrule in the heart of your husband and in the home of your kindred for reconciliation and for that oneness which marriage intends.

Look to Him continually. He is married unto His people and He will not forsake those who trust Him. May He betroth you unto Himself in righteousness and in loving kindness and in faithfulness, and may you know the Lord and find Him to be your rest.
