Marriage devastation

The pain you describe is like a wound that festers because the enemy has slipped in a blade of suspicion and twisted it deep. When the mind is besieged by such thoughts, it is not merely a human quarrel; it is a spiritual assault, and the thrones of the heart are being contested. Your husband's words spring from a spring poisoned by fear and hurt, yet they strike at the very root of what God has joined. Do not let despair take hold, for the Lord is mighty to save even marriages that seem to lie in ruins.

A woman with child is in a season of great vulnerability, as the body is weighed down and the heart is tender. It is no small thing that you carry new life, a gift that should bind you together in hope, not drive you apart. Yet the enemy always strikes hardest where the promise of life is freshest. Your husband's command that you leave and find another man to raise the child is a cry from a wounded place, but it is a wicked deception. Under no obligation are you to obey a word that breaks the covenant of marriage, except where godliness itself is at stake. You are not free to walk away because he speaks in pain, nor is he free to cast you off. The bond remains, and you must fight for it with every godly weapon.

The suspicion that you long for other men is a fire that must be smothered, not fed. You say you have expressed your own anger and hurt in destructive ways. That may have given the enemy a foothold. Even if you have done nothing to justify his fears, the mere shadow of discord gives the accuser ammunition. Therefore, let your conscience be clear before God and man. Commit yourself to live in such purity that not even a whisper of suspicion can cling to you. But that alone will not silence his terrors; a heart under siege does not easily hear reason. You must, with great patience and without anger, gently and repeatedly correct the false thought, as the Evangelist corrects wrong impressions. Speak truth in love, not once but always, and let your actions make your words believable.

The husband is called to love his wife as Christ loved the Church, and the wife to reverence her husband. Yet when fear has usurped the throne of love, this order is overturned. Your husband is not acting as the head who cherishes the body; he is lashing out like a wounded man. Do not answer his suspicion with more wrath. Instead, show him a steadfast love that is rooted in Christ, not merely in feeling. Love him for the Lord's sake, as an act of obedience, and trust that such love can pierce the darkness. Let no one, not even his own dark imaginings, be believed when they slander you to him. You cannot control his mind, but you can refuse to give up the ground of your marriage. The fears that torment him are, in a strange way, the twisted form of a desperate attachment; he is terrified of losing you. That terror has curdled into accusation. See in it, however distorted, the remnants of a fire that once burned for you.

Above all, you need the power of Jesus Christ. No mere human comfort can dispel the lies of the enemy that attack the mind. Fast and pray, even as your condition allows. Plead the blood of Christ over your husband's thoughts, over your own tongue, over the unborn child. Where the enemy speaks despair, let the Spirit speak the promises of God. A marriage is not lost while both still draw breath. Stand firm, not in your own strength, but in the Lord's. Let your husband see a wife who is not easily shattered, who clings to hope against hope, and who, even when struck by words that feel like death, answers with the gentle constancy of one who serves Christ. In doing so, you may well win back his wounded heart. The child in your womb is a witness that life can break forth in the midst of anguish. Trust that the One who forms that child can also form a new creation in your husband's soul.

The pain in your words is real, and it matters that you are reaching out right now. What you are describing is not just a marriage difficulty in the ordinary sense. It is a spiritual attack on your mind, on his mind, and on the union God Himself has knit together. The enemy is a liar, and the particular lie being whispered right now is that your husband is not the one you truly want. That is a cruel and destructive falsehood, and it will not be overcome by you simply saying it is not true, because the battle is deeper than words. It must be met with the power of Jesus Christ.

When Jesus encountered a man tormented and broken, He did not merely treat the outward symptoms. He went straight to the root with authority. The same word used when He rebuked a demon is used when He rebuked the raging wind. He said, “Peace, be still.” That same Lord sees the storm in your home and the turmoil in your husband’s heart, and He is able to command peace where no human argument can reach. The healing your marriage needs is not going to come from you proving your fidelity by your own frantic efforts. It is not by works of righteousness that we have done. You cannot make yourself worthy of his trust any more than he can make himself worthy of God’s grace. This is about a divine intervention of healing, like a leper who could only be made clean by the direct, compassionate touch of God.

You stated plainly that you want your husband. You love him. You desire a lifetime with him. That is the truth, and God sees it. He also sees the frame of both of you. He knows you are dust. He looks with compassion on a man speaking out of such deep injury that he would tell his pregnant wife to leave, and He looks with compassion on you, bearing the weight of that rejection. The real issue here is not just your marriage; it is the forgiveness of sins and the healing of the soul. We are so often prone to just pray that God will work with the symptoms, but the Lord wants to deal with the root. The anger, the destructive words, the suspicion, these are symptoms of a deeper wound that only Christ’s righteousness, imputed to you both through faith, can cover and restore.

When you are faced with accusations that cut so deeply, there is a temptation to find comfort at the enemy’s fire, to sink into despair or to retaliate in the flesh. That is a place you have no business being. The safest place is to follow close by the Lord, to continue steadfastly in prayer, and to not trust in your own ability to fix this. The most important need either of you has right now is not simply for a calmer home, but for the saving, transforming power of Jesus to work in your hearts. It is better to be made whole in spirit than to have outward peace without it. Ask Him to rebuke the lies that have assaulted your husband’s mind, and ask Him to give you a spirit of love and mercy that does not strive. He went around doing good and healing all manner of sicknesses, and that includes the sickness of a broken, believing heart in a marriage. Trust Him for that miracle. Do not be afraid. Just trust Him.

We are so grateful you entrusted us with the deep pain and longing of your heart concerning your marriage. It has been heavy on our spirits these past days, and we have continued to lift you, your husband, and your precious little one before the throne of grace, asking our Heavenly Father to move in ways only He can.

We have prayed for healing in both of your hearts—for the anger, the hurt, and the wounds that have spoken louder than love. We have asked the Lord to silence the lies of the enemy and to replace every false belief with His truth. Father, we believe You are the restorer of broken trust, the mender of shattered dreams, and the One who can soften the hardest of hearts. We have asked You to protect your minds from the enemy’s attacks and to fill your home with Your peace, even when the storm feels overwhelming.

We have also prayed for your husband, that You would meet him in his pain and help him see the truth—that your love for him is real, that your desire is for him alone, and that this marriage is worth fighting for. We’ve asked You to remove every barrier of doubt and to help him hear Your voice above the noise of his own hurt.

And for you, dear sister, we have prayed for strength—emotional, spiritual, and physical—as you carry this baby and this burden. We’ve asked the Lord to remind you daily that He sees your tears, hears your cries, and holds your future. We’ve prayed that you would feel His presence in tangible ways, especially in these moments when hope feels distant.

If the Lord has moved in your situation since you shared this with us, we would be overjoyed to hear a praise report—no matter how small. If the battle still rages, please know we are not walking away. We will continue to stand with you in prayer, believing that God is at work even when we cannot see it.

May the Lord bless you with His comfort, surround you with His love, and draw your husband closer to Him—and to you—with each passing day. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer.
