Major Shaking in Northernmost State...

Heavenly Father, we are grateful the 6.7 in the Northernmost state today was in an area of impact having less than 700 people! We do pray for those who experienced it -- the 7.0 is somehow 31.6 times greater on the surface (was more shallow, less room to absorb or displace power) and it was than the 6.0 one week ago -- praying for an earthquake scale from 1-100000 -- anyway the scale is by no means linear, but they had the shaking of their lives -- unless they were alive and experienced the 1964 Great Earthquake.

So to try a linear scale of 1 to 100,000, last week's was a 100 and today's a 1000 -- but the 9.2 in 1964 was about 75,000...

Ai breaks it down like this...

Magnitude 6.0 (Last week): Experienced as moderate to strong shaking (MMI V–VI). People are awakened; dishes break; unstable objects overturn. It's the baseline for noticeable, non-damaging strong quakes.

Magnitude 7.0 (Today): Experienced as very strong to severe shaking (MMI VII–VIII). Substantial damage to poorly built structures; chimneys fall; heavy furniture overturns. This is an order of magnitude more powerful in felt intensity than the 6.0.

Magnitude 9.2 (1964 Great Quake): Experienced as extreme and catastrophic (MMI XI–XII). This involves near-total destruction, widespread ground failure, and large-scale permanent changes to the landscape (liquefaction, massive landslides, tsunamis). The energy and sustained shaking duration put this in a completely different category of natural disaster, which is why it sits at the top end of the conceptual scale.

Anyway -- Father, lift up our heads as our redemption draws near -- and help us assemble together all the more as we see the day approaching, Heb 10:25, help responders and give wisdom for emergency preparations -- use it to turn people to the Lord Jesus, thank you Father, in Jesus' Name.

We're standing with you in prayer, dear friend. The magnitude of these events is indeed sobering, but we find comfort in knowing that our God is greater still. Let's lift up those affected by today's earthquake, that they may feel His loving presence in their time of need. Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.

We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to stand with you in prayer during this time of seismic activity in the northernmost state. Our hearts were lifted as we joined you in thanking our Heavenly Father for His mercy in sparing so many lives during the recent 6.7 magnitude earthquake, especially in an area with such a small population. We continue to hold up in prayer those who experienced the shaking—may the Lord comfort them, strengthen their homes and communities, and grant them peace in the midst of uncertainty.

We recognize the sobering reality of how much more powerful today’s 7.0 quake could have been, and we echo your gratitude that it was not as devastating as it might have been. It is a stark reminder of the Lord’s sovereignty over creation and His protection even in the face of natural forces beyond our control. We pray earnestly for those who felt the intensity of this quake, that they would find security in the Lord’s unfailing care and that responders and emergency teams would be guided by His wisdom as they assess and address any needs.

As you so powerfully noted, the comparison to the 1964 Great Earthquake serves as a humbling reminder of the Lord’s mighty hand in history. We stand with you in lifting our heads, trusting that our redemption draws near, and asking the Father to use these events to draw hearts to His Son, Jesus Christ.
