Low self esteem

Beloved of All
God made me ugly . I'm very skinny and my hair is horrible and thinning. I hate my life and my ugly dad who walked out

We hear the deep pain in your words, and we want you to know that your worth is not defined by your appearance or the actions of others, especially not by the father who failed you. The enemy would love for you to believe the lie that you are "ugly" or unlovable, but Scripture tells us something far greater: "For you formed my inward parts. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well" (Psalm 139:13-14). God did not make a mistake when He created you. Every detail of your being was intentional, and He calls you His masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10).

The pain of abandonment by your father is real, and it’s okay to grieve that wound. But we must rebuke the spirit of rejection and self-hatred that has taken root in your heart. Jesus came to bind up the brokenhearted and set the captives free (Isaiah 61:1). He sees your tears, and He longs to heal the places where you’ve been hurt. We declare over you that you are not what your earthly father said or did, you are a child of the Most High God, and your identity is found in Him alone.

We also want to gently address the despair in your words. Hating your life and wishing it were different is a heavy burden to carry, and it’s not what God desires for you. Jesus said, "I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly" (John 10:10). That abundance isn’t about outward beauty or worldly approval, it’s about the peace, joy, and purpose that come from walking with Him. If you’ve never surrendered your life to Christ, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection for your salvation, and invite Him to be Lord of your life. There is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12), and only in Him will you find true healing and worth.

Let us pray for you now:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister who is hurting deeply. Lord, we rebuke the lies of the enemy that have told them they are unloved, unwanted, or unworthy. We declare that they are fearfully and wonderfully made in Your image, and we ask You to open their eyes to see themselves as You see them. Heal the wounds left by their earthly father, and fill that void with Your perfect love. Father, we ask for Your comfort to surround them, for Your peace to guard their heart and mind, and for Your truth to replace every lie they’ve believed. If they do not know You as Savior, we pray they would surrender their life to Jesus today and find their identity in Him. Renew their mind, restore their joy, and give them a fresh vision for the future You have planned. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen."

We encourage you to meditate on these truths:
- "The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart" (1 Samuel 16:7).
- "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them" (Genesis 1:27).
- "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7).

You are not alone in this struggle. Seek out a Bible-believing church or Christian community where you can be encouraged and reminded of your worth in Christ. If your hair thinning is causing distress, consider speaking with a medical professional, as it may be treatable. But above all, fix your eyes on Jesus, who loves you unconditionally and gave His life for you. You are not ugly to Him, you are His beloved.

Thank you for being honest with us. It’s clear that underneath the anger and self‑hatred is a deep ache, a father who walked out, a body you can’t stand, a life that feels unfair. When the person who should have loved and protected you leaves, and when every glance in the mirror seems to confirm you’re not enough, it’s devastating. We’re so sorry you’ve carried that alone.

We often see how a parent’s cruelty or absence can get twisted inside us until we believe God somehow wired us wrong. But the voice that calls you ugly isn’t God’s, it’s pain speaking, old wounds echoing. You are not a mistake; you are a person He formed with care, and your worth was never meant to be measured by thinness, hair, or what a broken father said. That doesn’t dismiss the hurt, but it does mean there’s a different, truer word over your life.

Because the wounds run this deep, we’d gently encourage you to let someone safe help you unpack them, a pastor with a gentle heart or a Christian counselor who understands how childhood rejection shapes us. You don’t have to sort through all this rage and grief by yourself.

Let us pray for you now:

Father, we bring our friend to You, hurting, angry, and convinced they’re ugly. You see the child who was abandoned and the adult still reeling. Quiet the lies with Your love. Give them even one person who reflects Your kindness, so they can begin to hear a different voice. Heal the father‑wound, and slowly, gently, let them glimpse who they really are in Jesus’ eyes. In His name we ask this. Amen.

The bitterness you taste is not unknown to the household of faith. When the Spirit grants us a sight of Him whom we have pierced, we mourn with a bitterness like that for a firstborn, and in that strange, sharp sorrow the gaudy charms of this world grow dim and lose their hold. Yet observe what else that cross-wrought bitterness does: it swallows up all bitterness against our fellow men. The venom you feel toward the father who forsook you is a galling chain, but the sight of Christ rejected for you has power to dissolve it. Look to Jesus, the One who was abandoned that you might never be forsaken, and you will find a Father who does not walk out. He declares, “I will be a Father unto you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” In Him the orphan finds a Patron whose love outlasts the stars.

You say God made you ugly, and you despise the frame you see in the glass. The body you call a curse is but a tent, an earthen vessel in which the true self dwells. The Apostle distinguished the outward man that decays from the inward man renewed day by day. That perishing house is not the measure of your worth; as soon as the soul shakes off this clay, it is present with the Lord, and the body itself shall one day be raised in honor. Even now, the fairest saints are often those who think themselves the blackest, because more light reveals more need of the Savior. But let that light drive you not to self-loathing, but to Him who is the Everlasting Father, the Father of a new creation, who does not die or vacate His office. He carries the lambs when the road is rough; He carries you still.

Do not mistrust your heavenly Father. Doubt yourself as much as you will, but never distrust the Lord who cannot lie. For Christ’s sake you are accepted in the Beloved. Leave your heaviness at His feet. He who knows the number of hairs on your head, though they thin, has numbered you among His children, and no earthly father’s failure can revoke that adoption. Let that be enough.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You grieve over flesh that perishes, laboring for the meat which decays. Why do you fix your eyes on the body that is sown in corruption, as though it were the whole of your being? The seed cast into the ground does not resemble the plant that shall arise. You see thinness and thinning hair, and you call yourself ugly; but know you not that with what manner of body you come forth now is not the body that shall be?

There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. That which you despise is the very temple which Christ purchased with His own blood, and He will raise it in glory far exceeding this present lowliness. Yet you hate your life and hate your father who walked out. What does this bitterness profit you?

That which proceeds from the heart pollutes the whole frame, and from the tongue comes a venom that suffocates the soul. You accuse your father of wrong; but if he transgressed, does your hatred amend anything? Joseph, being righteous, showed self-restraint beyond the law, not seeking to inflict punishment even when suspicion urged him. Will you let resentment consume you, fighting not against flesh and blood but against God, who permits all things for a season?

Esteem not your own body as something foreign to you, for he that neglects his own soul while crying over outward form makes his enemy glad. I am in anguish over such sorrow, for when you make no progress, the heart of every teacher is struck down. Yet I declare to you the whole counsel of God: cease this labor for what perishes. The God of our Lord Jesus Christ would grant you a spirit of wisdom to know the hope of His calling, that even now His power turns estranged ones back to Himself.

Your earthly father may be absent, but you are not cast away. Hold not your present appearance so dear, nor despise it as though it were your master. Labor instead for that meat which endures to everlasting life.
