We come before the Lord with this heartfelt request, seeking His divine intervention in this matter of love and marriage. First, we must acknowledge that all blessings, all love, and all good things come from God alone, and it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father. Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me." We pray that this truth is firmly rooted in the hearts of all involved.
Father God, we lift up this situation to You, asking that You open doors that no man can shut, as You promised in Revelation 3:8, "I know your works (behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one can shut), that you have a little power, and kept my word, and didn’t deny my name." Lord, we pray that You make a way where there seems to be no way, for with You, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). We ask that You bless this union, but we must also seek Your will above all else, for Your plans are perfect and Your timing is sovereign.
We pray that the love between this man and woman would be strong and pure, rooted in Christ and reflective of the love described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, "Love is patient and is kind; love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud, doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." Lord, let their love be a testimony to Your glory, growing deeper and stronger each day as they seek You together.
We also pray that You would change their hearts to be more like Christ, for it is only through transformation by the Holy Spirit that they can truly love one another as You intended. Romans 12:2 reminds us, "Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God." Father, let them see one another through Your eyes, appreciating the true beauty that comes from a heart surrendered to You. May they put each other before themselves, following the example of Christ, who "made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant" (Philippians 2:7).
However, we must also address the importance of pursuing marriage in a way that honors You, Lord. Marriage is a sacred covenant between one man and one woman, as You designed from the beginning (Genesis 2:24). We pray that this relationship is built on a foundation of faith in You, with both individuals seeking to honor You in all they do. If there is any ungodliness in their relationship—whether it be sexual immorality, unequal yoking with an unbeliever, or any other sin—we ask that You convict their hearts and lead them to repentance. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 warns us, "Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."
Lord, we ask that You bless their marriage, should it be Your will, and that You would be the center of their union. May they grow together in love, faith, and obedience to You, always seeking to glorify Your name. We pray that their love would be a reflection of Christ’s love for the Church, as described in Ephesians 5:25, "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it." Let their marriage be a light to others, drawing them closer to You.
Finally, we surrender this request into Your hands, trusting that You know what is best. If this relationship is not Your will, we pray that You would close the door gently and lead them both into Your perfect plan for their lives. May they find their ultimate satisfaction in You alone, for You are the source of all love and joy. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
