Lost my job again

Broaside

Disciple of Prayer
I lost my job this past Tuesday.

Unfortunately I was let go because of a mistake I made the Friday prior to my termination. I admit it was my mistake and feel quite a bit of guilt and shame over how it happened.

I previously was fired from this same employer about 18 months ago, and it was quite a miracle I was allowed to return a few months ago. However, again I’ve made a mistake that has cost me my job.

I feel deflated and a little depressed about it all as I really enjoyed working for this employer. Also my third child was recently born and the stress of being out a job is another added pressure.

I know God will provide for my family and I, I ask if you can please pray for peace and for God to give me wisdom and strength during this time.

I desire to return to the same employer, yet I know being let go on 2 separate occasions doesn’t make it seem realistic. I know God can do anything, even that which seems impossible, yet I find myself feeling faithless when I think about praying for this employer to let me return again.

I’m unsure of what to do and whether I should accept the reality of the situation and find another job elsewhere.

Thank you for your prayers
God Bless

Regards,
###

We lift you up before the Lord in this season of trial, knowing that He is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). Your honesty about your mistake and your feelings of guilt and shame are a sign of a repentant heart, and we commend you for acknowledging your wrongdoing. The Lord does not despise a contrite spirit, and He is faithful to forgive when we come to Him in humility (Psalm 51:17). While your circumstances feel overwhelming, especially with the responsibility of providing for your growing family, we encourage you to cast all your anxieties on Him, for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). The fact that you were restored to this job once before is a testament to God’s grace and His ability to open doors no man can shut. Though it may seem unlikely to return again, nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37). Yet, we also recognize that His ways are higher than ours, and His plans for you may involve a new path entirely—one that brings greater blessing and growth than you can imagine.

Your desire to return to this employer may be rooted in genuine appreciation for the work, but we urge you to examine whether this is also tied to a fear of the unknown or a reluctance to step into what God might have next for you. Trusting Him fully means surrendering even our best-laid plans and preferences. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, *"Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."* This is a time to seek His wisdom earnestly, not just for provision, but for direction. Ask Him to reveal if there are areas in your character, work ethic, or habits that need refinement so that you may walk in greater integrity and excellence wherever He places you.

As for your feelings of faithlessness, take heart—even the disciples cried out, *"Lord, increase our faith!"* (Luke 17:5). Faith is not the absence of doubt but the choice to trust God despite it. Your admission of struggling with faith is honest, and the Lord meets us in our weakness. He is the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2), and He will strengthen you as you lean on Him.

We also want to gently remind you that while you expressed trust in God’s provision, your prayer request did not invoke the name of Jesus Christ, through whom we have access to the Father. There is no other name under heaven by which we are saved, and it is through Jesus alone that we boldly approach the throne of grace (John 14:6, Hebrews 4:16). If you have not already, we urge you to place your full trust in Him as your Lord and Savior, for apart from Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5). If you have never confessed Jesus as Lord or are unsure of your salvation, now is the time to repent of your sins and believe in Him. *"If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved"* (Romans 10:9).

Let us pray for you:

Heavenly Father, we lift our brother before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Lord, You see his heart—his regret, his shame, his fear, and his desire to provide for his family. We ask that You would wash him clean of every trace of guilt and shame, for Your Word declares that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). Replace his heaviness with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding his heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

Father, we pray for supernatural provision for this family. You are Jehovah Jireh, the Lord who provides, and You have promised to supply all our needs according to Your riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). Open doors of opportunity that no man can shut, whether it be restoration to his former employer or a new path You have prepared for him. Give him wisdom to recognize Your leading and courage to step out in faith. If there are areas in his life or work that need growth, reveal them to him and grant him the grace to walk in obedience.

Lord, we rebuke the spirit of fear and discouragement that seeks to overwhelm him. Fill him instead with Your Holy Spirit, renewing his strength so that he may mount up with wings like eagles, run and not grow weary, walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:31). Remind him that his worth is not found in his employment but in his identity as Your child, fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).

We pray for his marriage and family during this time. Strengthen the bonds of love and unity, and let this season draw them closer to You and to one another. Provide for every need—financial, emotional, and spiritual—and let this trial be a testimony of Your faithfulness.

Finally, Lord, we ask that You would increase his faith. Help him to trust You not just in word, but in deed, knowing that You work all things together for the good of those who love You (Romans 8:28). May he seek You first, above all else, and may Your kingdom and righteousness be his priority (Matthew 6:33).

We thank You, Father, for hearing our prayers. We trust that You are at work, even now, and we give You all the glory. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen.

Stand firm in the faith, brother. The Lord has not forgotten you. Use this time to seek Him diligently, to spend time in His Word, and to trust that He is preparing something far greater than you can see. Keep your eyes on Jesus, not on the storm around you. If you have not already, consider reaching out to your pastor or a trusted believer for accountability and encouragement as you navigate this season. You are not alone—the body of Christ is here to uphold you. Be encouraged: *"The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles"* (Psalm 34:17).

We're right here with you, friend. We know this feels overwhelming, but remember, God is near to the brokenhearted. It's okay to feel down, but don't let the enemy use these feelings to discourage you. You're not alone; we're lifting you up in prayer.

We've been where you are, feeling unsure and faithless. But remember, even the disciples asked Jesus to increase their faith. It's not about having no doubts, but choosing to trust God despite them. He's the author and perfecter of your faith, and He will strengthen you.

We've also been in situations where it seemed unlikely that things would work out. But with God, nothing is impossible. He opened doors for you once, and He can do it again. Trust that He has a plan, even if it's not what you expect.

In the meantime, let's focus on what we know. God will provide for you and your family. He's faithful, and He loves you. Let's ask for wisdom and strength to navigate this time. And let's not forget to thank Him for His goodness, even in the midst of trials.

So, let's pray together:

Dear Lord, we come before You today, lifting up our brother. Lord, You see his heart - his regret, his shame, his fear, and his desire to provide. We ask that You would wash him clean of every trace of guilt and shame. Replace his heaviness with Your peace, and guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus.

Father, we pray for supernatural provision for this family. You are Jehovah Jireh, the Lord who provides. Open doors of opportunity that no man can shut, whether it be restoration to his former employer or a new path You have prepared for him. Give him wisdom to recognize Your leading and courage to step out in faith.

Lord, we rebuke the spirit of fear and discouragement that seeks to overwhelm him. Fill him instead with Your Holy Spirit, renewing his strength so that he may mount up with wings like eagles, run and not grow weary, walk and not faint.

Remind him that his worth is not found in his employment but in his identity as Your child, fearfully and wonderfully made.

We pray for his marriage and family during this time. Strengthen the bonds of love and unity, and let this season draw them closer to You and to one another. Provide for every need - financial, emotional, and spiritual - and let this trial be a testimony of Your faithfulness.

Finally, Lord, we ask that You would increase his faith. Help him to trust You not just in word, but in deed, knowing that You work all things together for the good of those who love You.

In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen.

Keep your eyes on Jesus, friend. He's got this. We're here for you, every step of the way.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
