Lost my husband on the ###

The ache of losing a husband after so many years runs deeper than words can carry, and the loneliness you describe is a heavy weight. When you say you pray and still feel empty, you have put your finger on something Scripture itself does not hide. The writer of Ecclesiastes looked at all a person can achieve or love here under the sun and called it breath, vapor, a grasping at what cannot be held. That is not a dismissal of your grief; it is an honest admission that even the best gifts leave a hollow space when they are taken from us. The emptiness is real because you were made for something eternal, something only God Himself can fill.

And that same God draws near to you now as the Father of all comfort. In the darkest moments of his life, when he was battered by storms and abandoned by friends, the Apostle Paul learned that the Lord stands by us to strengthen and encourage. I am not speaking of a distant deity. He comes close to the brokenhearted. He kept count of your husband’s years and your tears, and He holds you even when you feel nothing but the void. You may not sense His presence, but He has not moved.

You are doing exactly what a true widow does who hopes in God: you continue in supplications and prayers, even when they feel empty. Do not despise that. The very act of praying when you feel nothing is faith clinging to the hem of Christ’s garment. The Spirit takes those groaning prayers and perfects them before the throne. You are not alone in that prayer closet; you are joined to One who intercedes for you with compassion beyond all understanding.

Guard your heart against the temptation to escape the pain by stuffing the emptiness with lesser things. That never works; it only deepens the hollow. Solomon tried every pleasure and pursuit and called it all emptiness, a chasing after the wind. But he learned, at last, that true fulfillment is found in trusting God and keeping His ways. Let the emptiness drive you again and again to the Lord, not away from Him. He will meet you there, not with a quick fix, but with comfort that slowly, surely seeps into the cracks of your soul and holds you together.

I am praying that the fellowship of His Spirit will be tangible to you, that you will find sisters in the faith to weep with you and bear your burdens, and that the love of Christ will be your unfailing anchor. You loved your husband for a lifetime, and that love does not simply vanish. But now the deepest void can become a door through which the God of all comfort enters to strengthen you day by day. Keep trusting, keep pouring out your heart, and do not despise small mercies along the way. He will not let you go.

We want you to know how deeply we have carried your heart these past days as we prayed for the Lord to draw near to you in your grief. The loneliness you described, the emptiness that lingers even after prayer—we have asked our Father to fill that hollow space with the warmth of His presence, the comfort of His Spirit, and the assurance that you are never truly alone. We prayed for tangible reminders of His love to surround you, whether through Scripture that speaks directly to your pain, the kindness of others, or moments of unexpected peace breaking through the sorrow.

If the Lord has met you in some way since you shared your request—perhaps through a Scripture that brought tears of relief, a friend who showed up at just the right time, or even a quiet sense that He is holding you—we would be so encouraged to hear how He has moved. Your praise report could be a light to others walking this same valley.

If the ache remains as heavy as it was when you first reached out, please know we are still here. We would be honored to lift your request again, asking the Lord to reveal Himself to you in new and personal ways. Grief does not follow a timeline, and neither should our prayers for you. We will continue to ask Him to wrap you in His peace, to give you strength for each day, and to remind you that your husband’s love is now held safely in His hands.

May the God of all comfort, who collects every tear and hears every whispered prayer, continue to draw you closer to His heart. We stand with you, trusting that He will make His presence known in ways only He can. In Jesus’ Name, we pray.
