Losing hope

Disciple of Prayer
Dear friends,

I’m in need of your prayers. The last five weeks I’ve been stuck inside a nightmare that I can’t wake up from. My only escape is, ironically enough, sleep. Each minute I spend asleep is a minute’s respite from reality. I wish things could go back to what they were. I miss being happy and able to challenge myself and grow.

I have not felt this level of despair in a long time. Looking back at how things were two months ago—The hope I had for the first time in a long while, the sense of direction and security…—It all seems cruel now.

Nothing in my life is working and it feels like I’m losing control. I’m dealing with profound feelings of loneliness and I’m scared that my depression will force me to drop out from school, that I’ll isolate completely and that I’ll lose more years of my life to this condition.

I appreciate every single one of you. Thank you for your prayers, may God bless you all.

We hear the deep anguish in your heart, and we want you to know that you are not alone in this battle. The weight of despair and loneliness can feel crushing, but we stand with you in prayer, lifting you up before the throne of grace where mercy and help are found in times of need. The enemy seeks to steal your hope, kill your joy, and destroy your future, but we rebuke that spirit of heaviness in the mighty name of Jesus. You are not forgotten, and your life has purpose, God has plans for you, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11).

First, we must address the foundation of your hope. It is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and the hope of eternal life. If you have not already, we encourage you to surrender your life to Him, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). He is the only true source of peace and restoration. If you have already placed your faith in Him, we pray that you would cling to Him even tighter in this season, for He is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).

We also want to gently but firmly rebuke the lie that sleep is your only escape. While rest is a gift from God, using it as a means to avoid reality can deepen the cycle of despair. Instead, we encourage you to bring your pain to the Lord in prayer, for He invites us to cast all our anxieties on Him because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). Depression and loneliness are real struggles, but they do not have to define your future. The psalmist cried out, "Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God!" (Psalm 42:5). Even in your darkest moments, God is working, and His light will break through.

We pray for you now, dear one, that the Lord would surround you with His presence and fill you with His peace that surpasses all understanding. Father, we ask that You would lift the heaviness from their heart and replace it with the joy of Your salvation. Strengthen them to press on in their studies and daily responsibilities, even when it feels impossible. Surround them with godly community, believers who will walk alongside them, pray for them, and remind them of Your truth. Break the chains of isolation, Lord, and let them feel Your love in tangible ways. Restore their hope, renew their strength, and remind them that You are making all things new (Revelation 21:5). Help them to see that this season, though painful, is not the end of their story.

We also encourage you to seek help beyond prayer, whether through biblical counseling, trusted mentors, or medical professionals if needed. God often works through the hands and wisdom of His people. Do not let shame or fear keep you from reaching out. You are not a burden; you are a child of God, and He has equipped others to support you in this fight.

Lastly, we want to remind you that your identity is not in your circumstances but in Christ. You are chosen, loved, and redeemed. The enemy wants you to believe that you are alone and that things will never change, but God’s Word declares that He is faithful and will not let you be tested beyond what you can bear (1 Corinthians 10:13). Hold on to that truth. We stand with you in faith, believing that God will restore what has been lost and lead you into a season of growth and purpose. Keep fighting, dear one, your story is not over.

Oh, friend, we’re holding you so tightly in our prayers right now, your pain feels heavy, and we ache with you. There’s something so raw and honest in what you’re sharing, and we want you to know that even in the quietest moments, God sees the longing in your heart. You’re not just stuck in a nightmare; you’re in the middle of a battle, but the One who holds the keys to that prison is already moving on your behalf.

We’re praying that God would meet you in your exhaustion, not with a quick fix, but with His presence, like a warm hand on your shoulder when you’ve been crying yourself to sleep. Sleep is a gift, but we’re asking the Lord to give you dreams that feel like waking up. Dreams where you’re not just resting, but being reminded that you’re seen. That your worth isn’t tied to what you can do or how you feel today, but to the truth that you’re His child, deeply loved.

And oh, how we pray for the loneliness, the kind that makes you feel like you’re drowning in silence. We’re asking God to send you even one person who can sit with you in this without trying to fix it. Someone who can say, “I don’t have all the answers, but I’m here,” and hold space for you to just be. Maybe it’s a friend who texts you a silly meme when you’re too tired to talk, or a professor who notices you’re struggling and offers to check in. We’re praying for those small cracks of connection to break through the isolation.

You mentioned missing happiness and growth, we’re praying for those things too, but not in the way the world measures them. We’re asking for joy that doesn’t depend on circumstances, for a quiet confidence that God is rewriting your story, even if it feels like He’s on pause right now. And for your schoolwork? We’re praying for clarity and strength, not because we want you to power through alone, but because we believe God wants to show up in the small things: a well-timed study break, a friend who shows up to help with notes, or even just the energy to get out of bed one day at a time.

Most of all, we’re praying that you’d feel the Lord’s arms around you tonight, whispering, “I’ve got this. You don’t have to carry it all.” If you’re open to it, we’d love to walk with you in this, whether that’s checking in weekly, praying together, or just being a voice that says, “You’re not forgotten.” You’re not alone in this fight, and we’re cheering for you, one step at a time.

In Jesus’ name, we hold you close.
