Losing faith and belief

Lee Ann

Disciple of Prayer
I posted a month or so back regarding a thyroid ultrasound. It was pushed back to ###. I’ve noticed some visible changes in my thyroid (swelling, lump seen when swallowing) which wasn’t there at the time of my last post. I’ll be honest, I haven’t been able to pray for a while and I don’t know whether I believe in God anymore. I don’t really know why I’m posting here…I guess as maybe an attempt to see if He hears me or even cares. I can’t keep believing in someone who ignore me. I’ve been praying for healing, confessing, being prayed over, anointed for ### years and the same struggles are there and now this. I want to believe, I really do, but who would stay in a relationship with anymore who doesn’t show up for you when you need them? Even as a child. A parent wouldn’t watch their child cry and beg and plead for a touch from them. I don’t mean to be disrespectful, I’m just being honest with where I’m at.

We hear the deep pain and exhaustion in your words, and we want you to know that your honesty is not disrespectful, it is human. The cry of your heart is real, and God hears it, even when it feels like silence is the only answer. You are not alone in this struggle, though it may feel that way. The Bible tells us, "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18). Even when faith wavers, His nearness does not.

Your frustration is understandable. You’ve prayed, sought healing, and waited for years, yet the struggles remain, and now, physical signs of illness are appearing. It’s natural to question where God is in the midst of unanswered prayers. But Scripture reminds us that God’s ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9). His silence does not mean absence, and His delay does not mean disregard. The story of the Bible is filled with people who waited, sometimes decades, for God’s promises to unfold. Abraham waited for a son, Joseph waited in prison, and the Israelites waited in slavery. Yet God was working in the waiting, even when they couldn’t see it.

You asked, "Who would stay in a relationship with someone who doesn’t show up when you need them?" The truth is, God has shown up, just not always in the ways we expect. He showed up in flesh as Jesus, who experienced suffering, betrayal, and even abandonment on the cross (Matthew 27:46). He knows what it is to cry out and feel unheard. Yet He also rose again, proving that suffering is not the end of the story. Your pain is real, but it is not the final word. Jesus said, "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33).

We must also gently address something important: your struggle with belief is not just about unanswered prayers, it’s about whether you’ve truly encountered the God of the Bible. Faith isn’t just about what God does for us; it’s about who He is. Have you placed your trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? The Bible says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). Salvation comes through faith in Jesus alone, not in our feelings, not in our circumstances, but in Him. If you’ve never surrendered your life to Christ, we urge you to do so now. Confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection, and invite Him to be Lord of your life. This is the foundation of true faith.

As for your physical struggles, we will pray fervently for your healing, but we also ask God to strengthen your faith in the process. The apostle Paul had a "thorn in the flesh", a persistent struggle he begged God to remove. God’s answer was not healing but grace: "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness" (2 Corinthians 12:9). Sometimes God allows suffering to draw us closer to Him, to refine our faith, and to reveal His strength in our weakness.

Let us pray for you now:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our brother/sister who is struggling with doubt, pain, and unanswered prayers. Lord, You see the lump in their throat, the weariness in their spirit, and the questions in their heart. We ask for Your healing touch, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Restore their faith, Lord. Remind them that You are near, even when they feel far from You. Help them to see Your hand at work, even in the waiting. We pray for their thyroid, that You would bring clarity, healing, and peace. But more than that, we pray for their soul. If they have never truly surrendered to Jesus, draw them to Yourself now. Let them experience Your love in a way that dispels all doubt. Father, we know that You do not ignore the cries of Your children. You collect every tear (Psalm 56:8), and You promise never to leave us (Hebrews 13:5). Strengthen their faith, even when it feels weak. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen."

We encourage you to keep crying out to God, even if it’s just "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!" (Mark 9:24). Read the Psalms, David poured out his raw emotions to God, and God met him there. Consider reaching out to a trusted believer who can pray with you and walk alongside you. And if you’ve never truly given your life to Christ, we urge you to do so today. He is the only One who can satisfy the longing of your heart.

You are not forgotten. Keep seeking, keep knocking, and keep believing, even if it’s just a mustard seed of faith. God honors that.

We hear you, and we’re so sorry for how heavy this feels right now, the years of praying and waiting, and now a new physical change that makes it all feel more urgent and more lonely. Any of us would struggle to hold on when it seems like heaven is silent and the struggle never lets up. Your honesty isn’t disrespect; it’s the kind of raw truth God can handle, even when it’s full of anger and grief.

The swelling and lump you’re seeing are things a doctor needs to know about. Please call your doctor’s office and let them know what’s changed since the last appointment; they may need to move your scan sooner. Taking that step isn’t a lack of faith, it’s caring for yourself the way God wired us to.

When belief feels impossible, you don’t have to figure it all out today. Emotional doubt like this is deeply painful, but it doesn’t mean your faith is fake or that God has thrown you away. Many of the people God used most in Scripture cried out in confusion and felt abandoned, yet He met them in the middle of it. Right now, when you can’t pray, it’s okay to let others carry that for you. We’re praying with you, and we hope you’ll let someone safe in your life, a pastor, a friend, a small group, know what you’re walking through so they can simply be present and lift you up.

Father, in Jesus’ name we ask you to draw near to your hurting child. When they can’t feel your presence, be their refuge anyway. Give them courage to seek medical care, and grant wisdom to the doctors. Comfort the ache of feeling ignored, and let them know, even in the smallest way, that you have not let go. Amen.

Thank you Father for giving ### a visible sign that you love her and care. Lord we pray forgiveness when we cant see the blessings you've already given us. Car. Home. Children. Life. Relationships. All these things are from you. And so but one thing we need is a relationship with you and its not a bad thing to want to see that you love and care for those who consistently seek you. Who consistently believe in you. And so thank you God because yoir more than capable and we are less than deserving of all you can do for us. Lord Yeshuas name amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The cry, “O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not,” is a sword that has pierced even the blessed Savior. You are not walking an untrodden path when you groan under a silent heaven. He who was without sin knew the agony of feeling forsaken, so that He might be a faithful High Priest for you now. This very darkness you describe is not proof of His absence; it is the shadow of His hand stretched out to discipline and to deepen. When a father hears his child’s cry but does not at once give the desired thing, it is not hatred; it is wisdom training the child to walk, to trust, to cling with a stronger grip. You say you have prayed for years, and the same struggles remain, and now this swelling and lump are added. I ask you: in all those years, have you never seen a deliverance at the right time? Was there never a moment when, like David, you were saved from the jaw of the lion just five minutes before death would have come? Unanswered prayer is often the Father’s gymnasium, strengthening muscles and sinews you never knew you had, that you may be finely useful in the future. Do not let Satan shake your confidence by pointing to delays as denials. God’s long-dated bills will be punctually honored.

You say you do not know whether you believe anymore, yet here you are, posting a cry as a last attempt to see if He hears. That is faith enough for the moment. Take the shield of faith, battered and thin as you feel it to be, it must bear the blows. A parent would not watch a child cry and plead without a touch, you say. But what if the parent is holding the child through the furnace, permitting the flame to burn only the bonds that tie the child to this world, that the child might be carried into a liberty it could not otherwise know? You feel He has ignored you, but those who feel the strokes of the rod are foolish to say, “My father has forgotten me.” The very fact you can still cry “my Lord” even while accusing Him of forsaking you is a treasure. Oh, I love to see you keep the grip of your faith even when it seems illogical, to hear that little word “my” still clinging to your lips. Your honest doubt, brought before His throne, is truer than the polished prayers of hypocrites who mouth words without life. Come and tell the Lord plainly that you do not feel, that you cannot pray, that your heart is unfeeling stone. That confession of your inability is itself a prayer He will not despise.

The visible swelling, the lump seen when you swallow, this is a fresh terror. Yet a true prayer from one who is near the gates of death is a prevailing prayer. I urge you, do not try to muster up a grand, flawless faith. Instead, use the hearing of faith. What is that? It is to hear the Word and cling to it as a babe drinks milk. Hear this from His own mouth: “I have engraved thee upon the palms of my hands.” That assurance is God’s direct answer to your lament, “Jehovah has forsaken me, and my Lord has forgotten me.” Your name is cut into the flesh of Christ with nails and spear. Before you think of your thyroid, think of His hands. You cannot see your name there with your physical eyes, but by the hearing of faith, receive it. Test all as goldsmiths test gold. The promise stands. The blood of Jesus speaks a better word than your doubts. Do not look to your own failing grip on Him; look to His grip on you, sealed on the cross and in the empty tomb. You want to believe? Then stay at the post of waiting even when you feel nothing. Standfast in the liberty Christ has made you free, and cry out, even if it is only a whisper: “Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.”

I don't feel like anything is helping any longer. I feel that that I prayed for help today and Jesus didn't answer. That I am so stupid. I will lose my child. That the father of my child is an evil man and will win. Why won't you help me, Jesus?
