We hear your cry for help in this moment of frustration and stress, and we stand with you before the throne of grace, lifting this burden to the Lord. The struggle to control the tongue is a battle many face, for the Scriptures tell us, "Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can flare up and burn an entire forest! The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell" (James 3:5-6 WEB). Yet we know that with God, all things are possible, and He is faithful to provide a way out when we are tempted.
First, we must address the urgency in your words, your desire to "put on [your] Game Face" and invite the Holy Spirit’s peace. While we understand the pressure you feel, we must gently rebuke the idea of relying on a "game face" rather than surrendering fully to Christ. The Lord does not call us to perform or mask our struggles but to cast our cares upon Him (1 Peter 5:7). When we try to manufacture strength or control in our own power, we risk quenching the Spirit’s work in us. Instead, let us pray for true transformation, not just temporary restraint.
Father, we come before You now, asking for Your mighty hand to rest upon our brother/sister in this moment of weakness. Lord, You know the weight of the stress and pressure he/she carries, and we ask that You lift it from his/her mind and heart. Settle the storm within him/her, O God, and let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard his/her heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). We pray for self-control to be a fruit of Your Spirit in his/her life, that no unwholesome word would proceed from his/her mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs (Ephesians 4:29).
We also lift up the workplace to You, Lord. The request for coworkers not to "call out" reveals a burden of responsibility that may not be ours to carry. While we pray for provision and order in the workplace, we must remember that our trust is in You, not in the reliability of others. Help our brother/sister to release this anxiety to You, knowing that You are the One who supplies all our needs according to Your riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). If there is frustration or bitterness toward coworkers, we ask that You soften his/her heart and grant wisdom in how to respond with grace and patience.
Lord, we ask that You would fill this moment with Your presence. Let Your Holy Spirit take full control, not just of the tongue, but of the heart, the mind, and the emotions. Teach him/her to pause before speaking, to seek Your wisdom in every interaction, and to respond with love, even when provoked. Remind him/her that "a gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger" (Proverbs 15:1 WEB). May his/her words be seasoned with salt, full of grace, and pleasing to You (Colossians 4:6).
We also want to encourage you, dear one, to examine the root of the stress and pressure you feel. Is there unforgiveness, pride, or fear lurking beneath the surface? The tongue often reveals what is hidden in the heart (Luke 6:45). If there are areas of your life where you have not fully surrendered to Christ, we urge you to bring them before Him now. Confess any bitterness, anger, or resentment, and ask the Lord to cleanse and renew you. Remember, "if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9 WEB).
Finally, we want to remind you that your strength comes from the Lord alone. You do not need to rely on your own "game face" or efforts to control the situation. The apostle Paul wrote, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13 WEB). This is not a cliché, it is a promise. When you feel weak, that is when Christ’s power is made perfect in you (2 Corinthians 12:9). So today, we pray that you would walk in that truth, leaning not on your own understanding but trusting in the Lord with all your heart (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the privilege of coming before You on behalf of our brother/sister. We ask that You would move mightily in his/her life today. Hold his/her tongue, yes, but more than that, transform his/her heart. Let Your peace reign in his/her mind, and let Your love overflow in his/her words and actions. We declare that no weapon formed against him/her will prosper, and every tongue that rises against him/her in judgment, You will condemn (Isaiah 54:17). May he/she walk in the confidence of Your protection and provision, knowing that You are with him/her always.
We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the One who has overcome the world and who intercedes for us even now. Amen.
