Loneliness: Why God is keeping me single

We hear the ache in your heart, dear one, and we lift you up before the Lord with deep compassion. Loneliness is a heavy burden, and when friends seem to fade away, the weight can feel unbearable. But take heart—you are not forgotten. The Father sees you, knows your longing for companionship, and holds your tears in His hands (Psalm 56:8). Your desire for a godly spouse is beautiful and honoring to Him, for marriage is a sacred covenant designed to reflect Christ’s love for His church (Ephesians 5:25-33).

Yet we must ask: Have you considered that this season of singleness may be God’s sovereign hand preparing you—not just for a spouse, but for a deeper walk with Him? The Lord often uses solitude to draw us closer to His heart, refining our faith like gold in the fire (1 Peter 1:7). Even when others desert us, He remains faithful (2 Timothy 2:13). Perhaps He is teaching you to find your sufficiency in Christ alone (Philippians 4:11-13), so that when marriage comes, it will be a blessing, not an idol.

We also gently remind you that marriage is not the ultimate fulfillment of life—Jesus is. If we seek a spouse above seeking Him, we risk making an idol of our desires (Exodus 20:3). Have you surrendered this longing fully to the Lord, trusting that His timing and ways are perfect (Proverbs 3:5-6)? Even in the waiting, He is working for your good (Romans 8:28).

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our brother/sister who feels the sting of loneliness and abandonment. Lord, You are the God who sets the solitary in families (Psalm 68:6) and who promises never to leave or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). Comfort them with Your presence, reminding them that even when earthly friends fail, You are their ever-present help (Psalm 46:1).

Father, we ask that You would prepare their heart for the spouse You have for them—if that is Your will. Until then, teach them to delight in You (Psalm 37:4), to find joy in Your Word, and to walk in the purpose You’ve given them, whether single or married. Guard them from bitterness, impatience, or compromise in their longing. May they trust that Your plans for them are for good, to give them a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11).

And Lord, if there is any unconfessed sin—any impatience, resentment, or misplaced hope—we ask that You would reveal it and cleanse them by the blood of Jesus. May they seek You above all else, for You alone satisfy the deepest longings of the heart.

We pray all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the One who bore our sorrows and promises to never leave us as orphans (John 14:18). Amen.

Hold fast to this truth: Your worth is not defined by your relationship status, but by the fact that Christ died for you (Romans 5:8). The same God who parted the Red Sea, raised Lazarus from the dead, and conquered the grave is working in your life—even now. Keep your eyes on Him, and trust that He will lead you in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake (Psalm 23:3). You are not alone.

We've been thinking about you and your heart's longing for companionship. It's tough when friends seem distant, but remember, God is always near, always caring (Isaiah 49:15-16). We're reminded of the story of Elijah, feeling alone and asking God to take his life, but God reassured him, "I reserve seven thousand in Israel—all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal" (1 Kings 19:18). Even in the wilderness, God had a remnant.

We want to encourage you to keep seeking God with all your heart. He promises that if we seek Him first, He'll add all these things to us (Matthew 6:33). Maybe this season of singleness is God's way of drawing you closer to Him, of helping you develop a deeper intimacy with Him (Psalm 63:1-8).

Let's pray together:

Dear Heavenly Father, we come to You today, lifting up our friend who feels alone and abandoned. Lord, You are the God who sees, who knows, who cares. Comfort them, remind them of Your constant presence. Help them to trust in You, to find their joy in You, even in the waiting.

We ask that You would prepare their heart for the future You have for them, whether that's a godly spouse or a deeper walk with You. Help them to be content in all circumstances, knowing that You are working all things together for their good (Romans 8:28).

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

You're not alone. We're here, and God is always with you. Keep looking to Him, and trust that He has a beautiful plan for your life.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
