It has been 22 months of dealing with mental health, agoraphobia, anxiety, anger, depression and addiction with my adult child. He wouldnt leave the house, he called me a narcissist, he was angry, addicted to adderall and thc. I would like to praise Jesus for the prayers he has answered and ask for continued prayers for those he has has not.

Praises: He is starting to leave the house; every day he has been going with me to the park to walk the dog. He is starting to drive his car again. He is saying no more social media. He is talking about finding and getting involved in a church. He has been taking new medication for about 4 months now that is helping. He is talking about getting a gym membership. He stays by me most of the day and vents/talks to me and is kind. He no longer has a desire to abuse drugs. He used to abuse caffeine. He is making progress and doing better with overusing it. Thank you Jesus!

Prayers: He is fixing to have a birthday. He is older. Still no job, no career, no desire to work. Prayers for motivation, guidance and for the Lord's purpose to come to pass. He is still struggling with medication side effects, severe sweating, feeling tired, a weird sleep schedule, mood swings. Prayers for healing, restoration and that the side effects of the new medication will flee. He says he is bored all the time. Prayers for motivation and wisdom to start new hobbies. Maybe even get IT certifications; he is very tech savvy. He has become hooked on AI so remove all addictions and desires for AI. Pray that his friends and sister will find favor with him and reach out and grow in their relationships. He hates being a part of this world and what is currently stands for. That is where most of his lack of desire and fear comes from. Pray for peace. Have your way, Lord!

We rejoice with you in the answered prayers and the little victories you’ve seen in your adult child’s life. It is truly a testament to God’s faithfulness and the power of persistent prayer. The progress, leaving the house, driving again, stepping away from harmful habits, and even expressing a desire to connect with a church, is evidence of the Holy Spirit’s work in his heart. We give all glory to Jesus Christ, for it is by His name and through His strength that these breakthroughs have come.

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who have a contrite spirit (Psalm 34:18). Your child’s journey has been one of struggle, but we see the hand of God moving even in the small steps. The fact that he is talking with you, seeking healthier routines, and showing kindness is a sign of healing. We pray these moments continue to grow into lasting transformation.

Yet we also acknowledge the areas where the battle still rages. The lack of motivation, the side effects of medication, the boredom, and the deep dissatisfaction with the world are real struggles that weigh heavily on both his heart and yours. We lift these concerns before the Lord, trusting that He who began a good work will carry it on to completion (Philippians 1:6).

First, we rebuke the spirit of slothfulness and despair that seeks to keep him stagnant. The Bible warns that "a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come on you like a thief" (Proverbs 6:10-11). While we do not condemn him, we must speak truth: work is a gift from God, designed to bring purpose, dignity, and provision. We pray for a holy discontentment with idleness and a divine stirring in his spirit to pursue the plans God has for him. Whether through IT certifications, a trade, or another path, we ask the Lord to reveal His purpose and ignite a passion to walk in it.

We also rebuke the spirit of addiction in every form, whether to substances, caffeine, or even AI. While technology can be a tool, anything that consumes our time, thoughts, or affections outside of God’s design becomes an idol. We declare freedom over him in Jesus’ name, that his mind would be renewed and his desires aligned with God’s will (Romans 12:2). We pray for wisdom to use his tech-savviness for God’s glory, perhaps even in ways that advance His kingdom.

The side effects of medication, the sleep disturbances, and the mood swings are not insignificant. We pray for the Lord’s healing touch, that His peace would guard his heart and mind (Philippians 4:7). We ask for discernment for his doctors and for the right balance of treatment that brings stability without harmful consequences. May the Lord grant him restful sleep, energy for each day, and a spirit of joy that overcomes the heaviness.

His hatred for the state of the world is understandable, but we must caution against allowing bitterness or fear to take root. The Bible tells us, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Romans 12:2). We pray that instead of withdrawing in despair, he would be equipped to engage the world as a light, showing Christ’s love and truth. May the Lord replace his fear with faith, his boredom with purpose, and his anger with peace that surpasses understanding.

We also lift up his relationships, with friends and his sister. Isolation can feed depression and anxiety, so we pray for divine connections that encourage, challenge, and support him. May the Lord soften hearts and open doors for reconciliation and fellowship, that he would not walk this journey alone.

Above all, we pray for his heart to be fully surrendered to Jesus Christ. If he has not yet made a personal commitment to follow Christ, we ask that the Holy Spirit would draw him near, that he would repent of sin, believe in the gospel, and receive the gift of salvation. For "if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9). There is no other name by which we can be saved, and it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father (John 14:6).

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude for the work You are doing in this young man’s life. We thank You for the progress You’ve already brought, for the steps out of isolation, the return to healthy routines, and the desire to seek You. Lord, we ask that You would complete the work You’ve started. Break every chain of addiction, slothfulness, and despair. Replace boredom with purpose, fear with faith, and anger with Your peace.

Father, we pray for motivation to rise within him. Show him the plans You have for him, plans for hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). Guide him into work that brings dignity and fulfillment, whether through IT, a trade, or another path. Give him wisdom to navigate his health, that the side effects of medication would fade and his body would be strengthened.

Lord, we ask that You would heal his relationships. Soften the hearts of his friends and sister, that they would reach out with love and encouragement. Surround him with godly community that points him to You.

Most of all, Jesus, we pray that You would draw him close to Your heart. If he does not yet know You as Lord and Savior, we ask that You would reveal Yourself to him in a powerful way. Let him experience Your love, grace, and forgiveness. Renew his mind, transform his desires, and fill him with Your Holy Spirit.

We declare that no weapon formed against him will prosper (Isaiah 54:17). We rebuke every spirit of oppression, and we speak life, healing, and purpose over him in Jesus’ mighty name. May he walk in the fullness of the calling You have placed on his life, bringing glory to Your name.

We trust You, Lord, for the victory. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
