Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your burden and allowing us to pray with you. We have heard your request that truth would be made clear, and we are bringing these matters before the Lord with you.
We are praying for the sister you mentioned who trusts in Jesus. We ask that God would continue to speak through her, give her wisdom and courage to speak truth in love, and use her influence for good in her brother's life. We pray that nothing that needs to be known would stay hidden, but that what is true about the apartment you lived in and the wrong that was done would come into the light, so that responsibility can be taken and what is unsafe can be addressed.
We are also praying for your former landlord. Our prayer is not that God would overlook wrongdoing, but that he would come to a true reverence for God. Scripture teaches that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge, and that to fear the Lord is to hate evil. That holy awe of God, recognizing who He is in His greatness and holiness, leads a person to love what God loves and to turn away from what God calls evil. We pray that God would bring conviction where there has been dishonesty or neglect, and that your former landlord would turn to the Lord in repentance and walk in integrity.
Concerning the sexual relationship you described, we do not ask God to bless what is outside His design. God's Word teaches that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and that sexual intimacy belongs within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. We pray for all involved in that relationship, that God would bring conviction, repentance, and a desire to honor Him, and that each one would seek forgiveness and new life through Jesus.
We hear how deeply the fear of being harmed has weighed on you, and we want to point you to the Lord's presence and protection. Fear and faith cannot occupy the heart at the same time. When fear takes over, faith departs, and when faith and confidence in God are strong, fear is driven out. The cure for fear is to remember the Lord and to be conscious that He is with you. As David said, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for You are with me. The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever puts trust in the Lord is safe. People can only harm the body, but God is the one to be revered, and His truth is our shield against the attacks of the enemy.
Like Nehemiah when others tried to make him afraid so he would react wrongly, we pray you will not be driven by fear into hasty or unwise reactions. It is right to take wise and prudent steps for your safety, including seeking help from the proper authorities if your life has been threatened, but we pray those steps would be guided by faith and wisdom, not by fear. God is able to protect you wherever you are, and His presence dispels fear.
We also remember that God sees persecution and hardship, and He will bring righteous judgment in His time. In the meantime He uses trials to strengthen faith and to deepen love among His people, and He promises to be near to those who walk in fellowship with Him, to answer prayer, to be present in trouble, and to bring deliverance.
Let us pray together. Father, we come to You in the name of Jesus Christ, the only way of salvation. You see all that has happened and You know the truth. We ask that You would shine Your light on what has been hidden, bring what is true into the open, and bring justice where there has been wrong. Work in the heart of this sister to give her discernment and boldness to speak what is right. Work in the heart of her brother to bring a true fear of You, a hatred of evil, and a turning to You in repentance and faith. Bring conviction and repentance to all who have walked in sexual immorality, and draw them to purity and to faith in Christ. Guard our friend who is afraid, quiet fear with the assurance of Your presence, increase faith, and keep this dear one safe under Your care. Let Your truth be a shield, let Your peace rule, and let Your will be done. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
