Landlord

When you pray for your landlord, let your own life be the first answer to that prayer. A servant’s faithful obedience often speaks louder than many words, and a tenant who honors his master with respect and diligence may win him over without a sermon. If you submit to him in all things lawful, not murmuring but serving as unto the Lord, his heart may soften when he sees the fruit of your faith. Show yourself merciful, patient, and mild; even a brutish man will notice such virtue and honor the God who produces it.

But remember, the change you seek comes from above. Pray for him with quiet reverence, not with disorderly cries, yet do not think prayer alone suffices while your conduct contradicts it. When you have adorned the Gospel by your deeds, then your intercession carries power. Entrust his soul to Him who elects whom He will, for no one can lay any charge against those God calls. In due season he shall submit, for the voice of the Lord breaks even the hardest rock.

The ache in your request is clear. You long to see someone in authority over your daily life turn from their own path and bend their knee, not to a tenant, but to the living God. That is a holy desire, born from a place of love and concern.

When we talk about surrendering to God’s voice, we must be careful not to fall into the trap of a conditional surrender. So many have a peculiar and mixed-up idea of what submission means. They will say, “Here I am, Lord, I’m your servant,” but the unspoken end of that sentence is always, “as long as you go along with my plans.” True surrender is not a negotiation. It is not telling God, “I will obey your voice if you allow me to keep this one area of my life,” or, “I will follow as long as I can still do that.” The voice of the Lord is calling for a whole heart, not a list of exceptions.

There is a profound urgency here. As long as God is still talking, there is hope. It is an awesome and sobering reality that a day can come when the voice of the Lord will no longer be heard. When God quits speaking to a heart, it’s all over. The fact that you are burdened to pray this way suggests the Spirit is still striving, still drawing, still speaking. That is a mercy. We must pray that your landlord does not neglect such a great salvation, a salvation that is open to whosoever will come. It reaches the lowest sinner and is worthy of all acceptation.

Think of the clear choice set before King Zedekiah when the prophet spoke. The word from God was essentially this: if you stay in your own fortress, relying on your own walls and your own strength, you will surely die by the sword, famine, and pestilence. But if you will go out and surrender, you will live. It seemed like treason; it seemed like a total loss. But the way of life was the way of surrender. The message was not “feel good,” but it was the truth. To a proud heart, God’s call to yield everything feels like a threat to life itself. But in that yielding is the only true safety. Your landlord’s soul, and the direction of his entire household, are in a similar balance. He must not trust in his own holdings.

When the heart finally says, as the Psalmist did, “When You said, ‘Seek My face,’ my heart said to You, ‘Lord, I will seek Your face,’” there is an immediate exchange. The Lord will give strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace. God’s secret, the glorious mystery revealed, is Christ in you, the hope of glory. This is not a distant rule; it is the indwelling life of Jesus Christ. We are praying that the landlord stops looking for a mere man to fix things or for his own will to be done, and instead submits to the Shepherd, the one God has raised up to speak His word and rule over our hearts.

It is crucial that this surrender comes now, in this acceptable day of God’s salvation. The Scriptures make a sharp distinction between a willing confession now and a forced confession later. A day is coming when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. If that confession happens now, from a believing heart that God has raised Him from the dead, it results in salvation and eternal life. Later, it will not have any redemptive power; it will only be an acknowledgment of a truth too late to save. That is a stern warning, but it is also the reason for our urgent prayer.

We will continue to lift this before the throne. We forget so easily, but God will not give His glory to another. Your landlord’s life, talents, and possessions are meant to bring glory to God, not to build a fading kingdom of self. The promise remains: if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God and do not turn to the right or the left, you will be blessed. We stand on that, asking the Father to complete the work, knowing that He who brought salvation to us by His own arm is able to turn a heart and bring peace where there is now resistance.

We are so grateful you entrusted us with the privilege of standing in prayer with you for your landlord. It has been on our hearts to intercede for his surrender to God’s voice and will, that he would submit every part of his life to our Heavenly Father. We continue to lift him up, asking the Lord to soften his heart and draw him closer to Jesus.

If the Lord has moved in this situation and your landlord has responded to God’s call, we would love to rejoice with you! Please share a praise report so we can give thanks together. If it seems like nothing has changed yet, we encourage you to post this request again so we can keep praying in agreement with you. God is faithful, and His timing is perfect.

May the Lord bless you as you persist in seeking Him, trusting in His goodness and power. We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
