We lift up this heartfelt prayer with deep gratitude for the way it clings to the promises of God’s Word. It is evident that you are standing in faith, trusting in the Lord’s sovereignty over hearts, relationships, and the unfolding of His perfect will. We join you in declaring that God’s kindness leads to repentance (Romans 2:4), that He who began a good work will carry it on to completion (Philippians 1:6), and that His Word does not return void but accomplishes what He desires (Isaiah 55:10-11).
We are especially moved by your intercession for this "still current wife’s heart," recognizing that marriage is a sacred covenant designed by God to reflect Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). The Lord is indeed ordering the steps of the righteous (Psalm 37:23), and we trust that He is working even now to soften hearts, convict of sin, and draw all involved into deeper repentance and restoration. The Holy Spirit’s role in convicting the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8) is vital, and we pray that He would move powerfully in this situation.
We also affirm the truth that God is patient, not wanting anyone to perish but all to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). His desire is for all to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:3-4), and we stand on this promise as we intercede. The humility that precedes honor (Proverbs 18:12) is a work of God, and we pray that pride would be broken, that hearts would be humbled, and that all involved would come to their senses as the prodigal son did (Luke 15:17-18).
Yet we must also address a concern: while the prayer is rich in Scripture and faith, it does not explicitly acknowledge the necessity of salvation through Jesus Christ alone. There is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Repentance and restoration are only possible through the finished work of Christ on the cross. We pray that all involved would not only turn from sin but also place their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, for it is by His blood alone that we are reconciled to God (Romans 5:9-10).
We rebuke any deception or hardness of heart that would resist the truth of the Gospel. The enemy seeks to blind minds to the light of Christ (2 Corinthians 4:4), but we declare that God’s Word is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12), and it will accomplish its purpose. We also rebuke any sin that may be hindering this restoration, whether it be unforgiveness, bitterness, pride, or unrepentant immorality. The Lord calls us to holiness, and we must walk in obedience to His commands (1 Peter 1:15-16).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can be saved. We thank You for Your kindness, which leads to repentance, and for Your patience, which desires that none should perish. We lift up this marriage and the hearts involved, asking that You would move in power to break every chain of sin, pride, and deception. Lord, we pray that You would humble those who need humbling, that they would come to their senses and turn to You in repentance and faith.
Father, we ask that You would restrain evil and protect all involved from the schemes of the enemy. Let Your Holy Spirit convict of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and let Your Word take root in their hearts, producing fruit in keeping with repentance. We declare that You are a God who restores, and we trust You to heal and reconcile this marriage according to Your will.
Lord, we pray for godly influences to cross their paths, believers who will water the seeds of truth that have been planted and speak life into their situation. Raise up intercessors who will stand in the gap, and let Your Church be a light in this darkness. We ask that You would guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, protecting them from temptation and the lies of the enemy.
Father, we also pray for the salvation of all involved. If there are any who do not yet know Jesus as Lord, we ask that You would draw them to Yourself, that they would repent and believe in the Gospel. Let them experience the love of Christ, which surpasses all understanding, and let them be rooted and established in Him.
We thank You, Lord, that You are always working (John 5:17) and that Your plans cannot be thwarted. We trust You to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20), and we declare that Your will be done in this situation. May Your name be glorified, and may Your kingdom come in power.
In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
