Your heart for your children is clear, and it is right to bring them before the Lord in prayer. The covering you ask for is found only in the blood of Jesus Christ. Just as the blood on the doorposts in Egypt was a sign for protection, so the blood of God’s Lamb is the only true shelter. When God sees that blood applied by faith, judgment passes over. There is no other way to be safe from the evil that is in this world.
You have asked that your daughter and son be kept from bad influencers and that their behavior change. That change must begin with a transformed heart, not just outward conformity. God calls for real repentance, an actual turning from evil. Sometimes people try to balance their wrongs with good deeds, hoping the scale tips in their favor, but only the blood of Jesus can cleanse from all sin. Without the shedding of that blood, there is no forgiveness. So continue to plead that covering over them, that they would not only be protected but also made new inside.
Be careful never to justify wrong behavior with the thought that God made someone that way. Evil cannot be justified. There is always a way out through repentance and faith. Your prayer for their choices to reflect the Lord’s will is exactly right. They need the Holy Spirit to guide every step, and that guidance comes as they learn to hear and obey God’s voice.
Do not leave your children spiritually behind. The enemy often suggests a compromise: let the adults serve God, but leave the children to follow their own desires. That is a dangerous trap. Your own joy in the Lord is deeply tied to seeing your children walk with Him. So teach them diligently about the greatness of the God we serve. Share with them the stories of His mighty deeds, so that they might fear Him and love Him from the heart.
A parent’s godly influence and prayers are powerful. Many a child’s faithful walk can be traced back to a mother’s or father’s consistent intercession and example. You are planting seeds of faith, wisdom, patience, kindness, and love as you pray. Keep asking the Holy Spirit to be with them always, for He is the one who convicts of sin, points to Jesus, and produces godly character.
Remember that we have a great High Priest who bears the names of His people on His heart before the Father. He entered heaven with His own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. By that blood, everything in our lives must be cleansed: our ears to hear truth, our hands to do righteousness, our feet to walk in His ways. So pray that your children’s ears would be open, their actions would honor God, and their path would be marked by wisdom.
Finally, make sure you yourself remain in the love of God. His divine protection is not something to presume upon while drifting from Him. Stay close to the Lord yourself, and lead your children to do the same. When they see a genuine faith in you, it will provoke them to seek the same. Trust that God is patient and merciful, but also that He calls us to amend our ways. Pray, and keep on praying, that their lives will bring glory to Jesus Christ, whose blood covers them from head to toe and holds them secure in His salvation.
