Justice

Beloved of All
Dear God, I pray that we become truly United, so both our evil President of the United States ###, and his evil supporters spend a lifetime in Prison, and that ### will no longer become President ever again, in Jesus Christ's name Amen.

We hear your longing for true unity and for justice to prevail in our nation and we join with you in seeking God's will together in Jesus' name.

We must gently but firmly rebuke the spirit of hatred and vengeance in this request. To ask that the President of the United States and those who support him spend a lifetime in prison and never hold office again comes from a desire for retribution, not from biblical justice or love. The Word tells us to love our enemies, bless those who curse us, do good to those who hate us, and pray for those who mistreat us and persecute us Matthew 5:44. We are also commanded to pray for those in authority over us, not to curse them, for we are instructed that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence 1 Timothy 2:1-2. Scripture reminds us that there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God Romans 13:1, and that the king's heart is in Yahweh's hand like the watercourses, he turns it wherever he desires Proverbs 21:1. We are called to honor all men, love the brotherhood, fear God, and honor the king 1 Peter 2:17.

True justice belongs to the Lord, for righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne Psalm 89:14 and he has told us what is good and what he requires of us, to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God Micah 6:8. Our own anger does not accomplish the righteousness of God James 1:20, and we are warned not to avenge ourselves, but to give place to God's wrath, for it is written, Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord Romans 12:19. We are to overcome evil with good Romans 12:21 and to remember that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God Romans 3:23, and God desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth 1 Timothy 2:4, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance 2 Peter 3:9.

We thank you for praying in the name of Jesus Christ, for there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men by which we must be saved Acts 4:12 and it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father, for Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6.

We pray together for you and for our nation. Father in heaven, we come before you in the name of Jesus Christ and ask you to search our hearts and cleanse us from hatred, bitterness and the desire for vengeance. Forgive us where we have harbored malice toward those we disagree with politically. Pour out your Spirit of unity upon us that we may be eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace Ephesians 4:3 and know how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell together in unity Psalm 133:1. We lift up the President of the United States and all those in authority to you, we ask that you guide them, grant them wisdom, surround them with godly counsel, and turn their hearts toward righteousness and truth. We pray for all supporters of every political persuasion, that you would bring conviction where there is sin, repentance where there is wrongdoing, and mercy and grace to all. Let justice be done according to your perfect and holy standard, not according to our anger, and let it be tempered with mercy. Heal our land, help us to love one another as you have loved us, to speak the truth in love, and to trust that you are the righteous Judge who will in your perfect time make all things right. We ask this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

We hear how much you are carrying about our nation right now. Wanting our country to be united and wanting wrongs to be made right are deep, good longings, and it makes sense that you would bring them to God so directly.

When anger about leaders and division stays with us day after day, it can start to wear on our hearts even while we still care deeply about justice. We have found it helps to separate what we can entrust to God and to the proper authorities from what we carry inside. Caring about justice does not mean we have to hold onto bitterness toward others to prove we care.

One small practice that has helped others is to turn the headline or the frustration into a brief, specific prayer for wisdom, for truth to come to light, and for healing where there is division, and then to step into one concrete way to build unity close to home, like serving a neighbor or listening well to someone who sees things differently.

Father, we bring our nation before You and we bring our brother who is burdened for it. Give wisdom to those in authority, let truth and justice be upheld according to Your will, and guard our hearts from resentment. Lead us toward peace and unity that honors You, and give us grace to love our neighbors even when we disagree. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Your prayer expresses a deep longing for justice and for unity in our nation, and we are grateful you have brought this burden before the Lord. The desire to see wrong made right is placed in the human heart by God Himself, who is both perfectly just and perfectly merciful, and Scripture calls us to bring all such longings to Him with reverence and humility.

At the same time the Word of God calls us to examine how we pray for those in authority and for those we consider enemies. The Apostle Paul exhorts us that supplications and prayers be made for all men, for kings and for all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. Our Lord Jesus taught us to love our enemies, to bless them that curse us, and to pray for them which despitefully use us. Vengeance belongs to the Lord, and He will repay in perfect righteousness in His own time and way.

For this reason we cannot join you in asking God to curse any person or group with a lifetime of imprisonment, nor can we ask Him to carry out a personal wish against others. To pray in that way would be to ask God to serve our anger rather than to submit our anger to Him. Instead we are taught to follow the pattern set before us in Christ.

As it has been preached among us, there is forgiveness with God. It is a divine forgiveness, I even I am He that blotteth out thy transgressions. It is a surprising forgiveness, so great that God speaks as if surprised that such sins should be remitted, and a complete forgiveness that blots out the whole debt for all who repent and believe. However sinful a life may have been, however great the offense against God or against our neighbor, there is forgiveness with Him through Jesus Christ His Son, who lived a life of forgiveness and crowned it with His dying prayer, Father forgive them for they know not what they do. And we are then called to copy that pattern, even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

That forgiveness does not deny justice. The cross itself shows how seriously God takes sin, for the Just died for the unjust that He might bring us to God. But it reminds us that we all stand in need of the same mercy. If we have received so much manifest forgiveness for our own sins, then for us to forgive ought to become as natural as to open our hands.

True unity also will not be found in the punishment of opponents, but in a living, loving, lasting union with Christ. When we are joined to Him by faith, His love becomes the source of our love for others, and He brings us safely through the temptations of bitterness and division in this life.

So let us pray together in a way that honors both the justice and the mercy of God:

Heavenly Father, we confess that You alone are holy and just, and that Your judgments are true and righteous altogether. We bring before You our nation and those who lead us, and we ask that You would work repentance where there is sin, truth where there is falsehood, and justice according to Your perfect will. Grant to all in authority wisdom to govern justly and with fear of You. Soften hearts that are hardened, and draw all men, including ourselves, to see our need of Your forgiveness through Jesus Christ alone. Teach us to love our enemies and to forgive as we have been forgiven, that we may seek a unity that is rooted not in triumph over others but in reconciliation to You. Let Your tender mercies, which are over all Your works, lead us to repentance, and let Your name be hallowed in our land. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord we pray, Amen.

We encourage you to continue to bring your concerns to God, asking Him to search your own heart, to grant you His peace, and to make you an instrument of His love and truth in a divided world.

Lord Jesus please richly bless, protect and guide them. Please help them in accordance with your perfect will Father. Thank you and praise you. In your holy name I pray. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
