Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We have heard your burden for this father and son who now faces a court hearing after being accused of striking his landlord, and we join you in bringing him before the Lord who loves justice and truth.

We pray that God, who sees all things done in secret and in the open, will cause the truth to be made clear. On earth we have courts and judges because God Himself is a God of justice, and His righteousness is sure. We ask that this earthly court will act with fairness, that it will look carefully for reliable evidence and witnesses as the law requires, for at the mouth of two or three witnesses a matter is established, and that no one will be condemned on a single unproven claim.

We pray for the man you mentioned, that if he is falsely accused the false charge will not stand, and the case will be dismissed. We ask God to give him peace in these two weeks of waiting, to guard him from fear, to protect his relationship with his daughter, and to uphold him as a father and son who desires to live quietly and peaceably. May the Lord comfort his heart and remind him that even when he is troubled by accusation, God knows his ways and will be his refuge.

We also pray for the landlord, that God will move him to speak honestly and to tell the truth about what happened. Every idle word and every false accusation will be brought before the Judge of all, and it is a serious thing to bear false witness against a neighbor. We pray that any bitterness, prejudice, or anger that has led to harsh words and to this conflict will be brought into the light, and that the landlord will turn from speaking evil and choose what is right. We ask God to restrain further strife between them and to provide a just and peaceful resolution regarding his housing and his money.

We ask the Lord to grant wisdom to the judge and to all who will hear the case, that they will discern what is true and do what is right. We pray that this man will have good counsel and help, and that he will be strengthened to answer with calmness and honesty.

May God, who frees the temperate and upright from the fear of false accusation and who crowns those who walk in integrity, keep this family in His care. We entrust this hearing and this future to Him, asking for mercy, for truth to prevail, and for justice to be done according to His perfect will. Amen.

Your request has been lifted before the Lord and I have prayed for this man and for his family and for the hearing that lies ahead.

What you describe is a painful and frightening situation, to be accused falsely and to face the possibility of being separated from his daughter. God sees this clearly. Scripture shows that God hates a false witness and hates evil. The law taught that if someone rose up to bear false witness against his neighbor and was proven to have lied, the penalty he sought to bring on his neighbor would fall on himself. God is not deceived when one person says one thing and the truth is another. He knows whether there are marks or bruises, He knows what was said and what was done, and He will bring what is hidden into the light. He has also said He is against those who deceive and mislead, and that He will hold them accountable.

Human justice is meant to reflect something of God's justice. True justice is impartial. It does not show favoritism and it is not swayed by one person's influence. It requires specific charges and proof, and the wisdom of God teaches that an accusation should not be received on the word of one person alone, but on the testimony of two or three witnesses. It is tragic when a reputation is damaged or a life is put at risk by a single unproven claim. We are praying that the court will act with that kind of fairness, that it will look for evidence and truth rather than taking one word against another, and that the process will be speedy and just. The wisdom that helps kings and judges decree what is right comes from the Lord, and the fear of the Lord is the beginning of that wisdom. We are asking God to give that wisdom to those who will hear this case.

I also hear the fear in this request, the fear of jail and of being away from his daughter. Fear is a tormenting thing, and it drives out peace. Scripture teaches that perfect love casts out fear, and that when we are settled in the assurance of God's love for us in Christ we can be bold and not afraid. Fear and faith cannot rule the heart at the same time. When we forget the Lord, fear grows, but when we remember Him, that He is with us even through the valley, fear loses its grip. This does not mean we do nothing, we should do what is wise and prudent to prepare for the hearing, to seek good counsel and to speak the truth calmly, but we do not need to be driven by panic. God loves this man as a father and a son, and He loves his little girl. He has a responsibility to care for his family, and that is a good and God honoring desire. We can trust the Lord to be near to that family in these days.

So I have prayed that the truth will be made plain, that if a false accusation has been made it will be shown for what it is, and that the landlord will be moved to be honest and to tell the truth. I have prayed that the judge will have discernment to judge righteously and to hate what is evil, that the case will be handled with equity and fairness, and that if there is no proof of wrongdoing the matter will be dismissed. I have prayed for peace for this father, that he will know the love of God that casts out fear, that he will be able to rest in Christ and not be tormented by what might happen, and that his daughter will be comforted and kept safe. And I have prayed that through it all he will walk peaceably, seeking to live at peace with all men as far as it depends on him, trusting God to be his defender and his hope.
