John 3:16 (KJV)
¹⁶For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Isn't that beautiful? Standing alone, that seems to release man from all accountability. Some even preach that it absolves all past, present, and future sin. But, John 3:16 doesn't automatically cover all people; nor does it automatically cover ongoing sin. There are stipulations. Therefore, keeping it in context, let's try it again:

¹⁶For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
(To believe requires acceptance of the complete Word of God. Christ, who is The Word of God, is not a buffet "pick n' choose." Perish-To spiritually die in your sin. Eternal life-Spiritual life after death. Resurrection)
¹⁷For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.
(Condemnation was not God's purpose; salvation is. But man rejected Christ then, and rejects Him still - whenever intentional sin is continual: Isaiah 53:3)
¹⁸He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
(Because of man's rejection, repentance was made available through Christ's finished work on Calvary. Therefore, we have received the free gift to sincerely ask God's forgiveness in Jesus's name. In rejecting the opportunity to repent, man condemns himself)
¹⁹And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
(Again, REJECTION is the condemnation. Mankind overwhelmingly chose the "darkness" of sin over the "light" of righteousness. Christ is the light. But, pride of life and lust of the eye makes sin look much more appealing to those who are walking in darkness. "Sin is fun!" until consequences arise; and, they always will - it's just a matter of time)
²⁰For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
(Yet, man, not wanting to suffer the consequences of his sin, still thinks he can hide his wrongdoing from God, while continuing to sin in His face.)
²¹But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
(While people attempt to hide wrongdoing "plots, plans, and schemes," even in the temple building, righteousness, as discerned by God, is on full display in "spirit and truth")
So, you see, belief in Jesus is about more than just quoting John 3:16. There must be a true reverence for God, which produces a change in mind, body, and soul. Certainly, you "come as you are;" but, you can not stay as you were.
