The interview looms before you, and the enemy whispers his ancient lies, seeking to sow doubt and fear. But remember, the Lord is not hindered by doors that seem shut to you. When the disciples hid in the upper room, with the doors shut for fear, Jesus came and stood in their midst, and said, “Peace be unto you.” No door of man’s making can bar His entrance. If this position is for your good and His glory, the door will open as surely as the stone rolled from the tomb. And if it does not open, it is because He has a better door, a wider passage, already prepared. Trust Him for the outcome; He is too wise to err and too good to be unkind.
Cast down those lying insinuations of the devil that you will stumble or that your need is unseen. Job, in all his calamity, sinned not with his lips, nor charged God foolishly. He worshipped when everything was torn from him. You are not called to a lesser faith. The grace to endure and to speak rightly is laid up for you at the very gates of this trial, not before, but when you arrive. You shall be anointed with fresh oil; your bow shall be renewed in your hand. The fountain that cleanses from all sin is as open to you now as ever it was. Wash there, and go into that room with a spirit calm and clean, knowing that your life is hid with Christ in God.
Do not set your heart upon riches or the full purse, as if that were the chief end. Job’s desire to aid the poor and his weeping for the sorrowful marked him as a perfect man, not his overflowing coffers. By all means, yearn to give more, to tithe and to bless your household, but let your first cry be that God would be glorified in you, whether by abundance or by leanness. The Lord turned the captivity of Job, not when he demanded his vindication, but when he prayed for his friends. Forget yourself now, intercede for those who interview you or who wait upon the same employ. Pray for them, and see if the Lord does not turn your own captivity in due time.
I know that you will be brought to the house appointed for all living, and this hour of suspense is but a tiny brush with mortality’s chill. Let that knowledge drive you to the solid Rock. He who appeared within shut doors can appear within your spirit even now, breathing peace. Whether the answer be “yes” or “no,” say with Job, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him.” That is faith’s ultimatum, and that is victory, already won before a word is spoken. Go, then, in that confidence.
