Job/internship for daughter

I am asking for prayers for my daughter that she gets a job or internship very soon. She is in her final stages of the interview process for an internship that she really wants. I really want this for her too or whatever job is supposed to come her way. After months of applying she is losing her self confidence and becoming depressed and discouraged. It’s breaking my heart and hers.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your daughter in this season of waiting and uncertainty. Father, we know that You hold her future in Your hands, and we trust that You have a perfect plan for her life. The scriptures remind us in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you," says Yahweh, "thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future." Lord, we cling to this promise today, believing that You are working even when we cannot see it.

We pray for this internship opportunity she is pursuing, that if it is Your will, You would open the door wide for her. May every detail of the interview process align with Your purpose, and may she walk into that final stage with confidence, not in herself, but in You. If this is not the path You have for her, we ask that You close this door gently and lead her to the right opportunity, one that will grow her skills, strengthen her faith, and provide for her needs.

Father, we also lift up her heart, which is growing weary. The enemy seeks to steal her joy and plant seeds of doubt, but we rebuke that spirit of discouragement in Jesus’ name. Remind her of Your truth in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." When she feels weak, may she find her strength in You. When she feels overlooked, may she remember that You see her and have not forgotten her. Surround her with encouragement, from friends, mentors, and Your Word, that lifts her up when she is down.

Lord, we also pray for wisdom for her as she waits. Help her to use this time productively, whether through serving others, deepening her skills, or resting in You. Guard her heart from bitterness or comparison, and instead, fill her with hope. We declare that her season of waiting is not in vain, it is preparing her for the good things You have ahead.

Lastly, we ask that You would provide for her needs during this time. Whether through this internship, another job, or unexpected provision, show her that You are her Provider. May she learn to trust You more deeply through this process, and may her faith grow stronger as she sees Your faithfulness.

We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who holds her future and who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we could ask or think. Amen.

We hear how much you love your daughter, and how much it has cost you to watch her carry this weight month after month. Wanting something good for her while seeing her hope wear thin is its own kind of grief. We are glad you are standing with her.

In this final stage, one of the most helpful things she can do is shrink the process down to what she can control. If she hasn’t already, she might do a short practice interview with a trusted mentor or her school’s career office, then set the preparation down so she can rest before the real conversation. Planning something simple and life-giving afterward, regardless of the result, can also remind her body and heart that her worth is not hanging on an offer letter.

Months of silence and near-misses can make anyone feel invisible. But her identity and future are not measured by how quickly this door opens. God is not confused about where she is. We pray he will sustain her and let her see even small evidences of his care while she waits. If her discouragement lingers or deepens, it is okay to encourage her to talk with a counselor or doctor.

Father, thank you for this parent’s love and for the daughter you have made. Hold her steady as she walks through this final interview. Give her a clear mind and a peaceful confidence that is not fake. We ask for the right internship or job to open in your timing, and we ask you to guard her heart from despair if the answer is not what she hopes. Restore the confidence that months of waiting have worn away, and help her feel seen, known, and cherished. Give her parent wisdom and tenderness, and let them both rest in your care. I have laid your request for your daughter before the Lord, and I shall continue to bear it with you in prayer. The cry of a parent for a child is very near to the heart of God, and He does not turn a deaf ear to those who come to Him through Jesus Christ the righteous.

Let her take heart that the Lord has brought her to the final stages of this internship. That itself is a mercy, though I know it makes the waiting sharper. But a delayed answer is not a denial. Our longest sorrows have a close, and there is a bottom to the profoundest depths of our misery. Job was brought very low, and yet the Lord turned his captivity when he prayed. The same God who upheld Job in the loss of all things can uphold a young woman whose confidence is worn thin by months of applying.

We will ask boldly for this internship if it be God’s will, and we will also ask that if He withholds it, He would give her something better and, above all, give her peace. Let her not ground her confidence in getting this one place. Other foundation can no man lay than that which is laid, Jesus Christ the righteous. If her hope is fixed there, she may bring every earthly care to her Father with holy boldness. If she is not resting in Christ, then the first and chief prayer must be that she would find Him, for true confidence begins at the cross.

Tell her to be calm and wait for her opportunity. Diligence in seeking work is her duty, but despondency is not. Let her use the means, prepare well, and then leave the result with the Lord. He is not unrighteous to forget her labors and her weariness. I will pray that the Lord would open a door soon, restore her courage, and make her willing for whatever He appoints. You do well to weep with her, but do not let grief become unbelief. The Lord is good, and His mercy in Christ is a sure foundation for both of you.

I have taken your request to the Lord, and I will continue to pray that your daughter receives a suitable job or internship soon. It is no small grief to watch a child lose heart after many applications. Yet tell her this: her worth before God is not measured by an employer's answer. The Lord who fed the multitude with a few loaves knows our bodily needs, but He calls us not to labor only for the food that perishes. That does not mean idleness. The Apostle Paul worked with his own hands as a tentmaker, and he taught believers to work diligently and even to have something to give to those in need. So let your daughter keep preparing and applying, not as one whose whole soul hangs on the result, but as one who offers her effort to God and trusts Him with the outcome.

The long delay is painful, but it can become a place of growth in self-command and patience. When confidence rests only on success, every closed door becomes despair. Let her confidence rest instead on Christ's love for her. Then she can enter the next interview with a steady heart, knowing that if this door shuts, God has not abandoned her. She may even pray with the holy boldness of that woman who cried, "Help me," not because she was worthy, but because she knew the Lord was merciful. I will ask the same for your daughter.

Let us not cease asking, and let us also ask for more than the internship. Pray that she receives the opening that will let her serve God and neighbor, and that her heart is kept from discouragement. I will ask the Lord to grant it quickly if it is good for her soul, and if not, to give her something better and to make her steadfast while she waits.

Your love for your daughter comes through so clearly in this request, and it is right to bring her before the Lord in prayer. Months of applying with no open door can wear down anyone, and the discouragement and loss of confidence she is feeling are deeply human. What you are describing is not new. Cultures and times have changed, but the deepest needs and struggles of the heart remain the same.

Scripture gives us a helpful background in the book of Job, which is part of the poetry section of the Bible and is among the oldest books we have, going back perhaps to the time of Abraham. Job is described as a man who was blameless and upright, who reverenced God and turned away from evil. God Himself pointed to Job as an example. What we learn is that there was an unseen conversation in heaven concerning him. The enemy had been watching Job closely, studying him and forming a theory about him, that Job only served God because God had put a hedge around him and blessed him with so much, that he was the most respected man in his region. The enemy asked permission to remove those blessings, claiming Job would then turn from God.

The Lord allowed that testing, and Job lost much, yet he did not curse God or accuse Him of doing wrong. He simply did not understand what was happening. Three friends came to comfort him, but their comfort failed. Instead of truly helping, they argued that suffering must mean hidden sin. One insisted that God would not allow hardship without wrongdoing. Another told Job that God is completely fair and just and that Job should plead his case and get right with God. They called him a hypocrite and insisted his pain proved his guilt. Job answered that he knew God is fair and just, and he protested that he was not suffering because of secret wickedness. He was crying out for answers while his friends only added weight.

That helps us in two ways as we pray for your daughter. First, a closed door or a long wait does not mean God is displeased with her or that she has done something wrong. The friends of Job were mistaken to make that connection, and we should not make it either. Second, much of what Job said in his deepest grief was the honest cry of a hurting man, not settled doctrine about God or about the future. When discouragement speaks, it can sound very convincing, but those feelings do not define the truth about who she is or what God thinks of her. Even in his lowest moments Job would at times rise to speak a beautiful truth and then sink back into the pit. God understood both.

What Job longed for in that pit was someone who could stand between God and man, with a hand on both, to bring them together. That longing is answered in Jesus, who alone is the mediator between God and us. Our confidence before God does not rest on whether an interview goes well or a position opens, but on the fact that we reverence Him and belong to Him through Christ. That fear of the Lord, that trust in Him, is meant to be our place of confidence and hope even when circumstances are painful and confusing.

So we will pray for your daughter that God will open the right door, whether this internship she desires or another job that is truly best for her, and that He will do it soon according to His wisdom. We will pray that He guards her heart from the lie that her worth is measured by an employer's decision, and that He restores her confidence in Him. We will pray that He reminds her that He sees her, He knows her diligence, He has not removed His hedge from around her, and He is not measuring her by productivity but loving her as His child. And we will pray for you as her mother, that God will comfort your heart as you watch her struggle, and give you words that truly comfort rather than add pressure.

May the Lord lift her eyes to Himself, steady her with His presence, and provide the work He has prepared for her in His perfect timing.
