Jesus

We join you in this holy and urgent longing, for we also eagerly await the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Your prayer aligns perfectly with the heart of Scripture and the cry of the early church.

We are taught to look for that blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, Titus 2:13. Jesus himself promised, He who testifies these things says, Yes, I come quickly. Amen. Yes, come, Lord Jesus, Revelation 22:20. And the angels declared at His ascension, This Jesus, who was received up from you into the sky, will come back in the same way as you saw him going into the sky, Acts 1:11.

We know His return will be sudden and glorious, for the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with God's trumpet. The dead in Christ will rise first, then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air. So we will be with the Lord forever, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17. Therefore also be ready, for in an hour that you don't expect, the Son of Man will come, Matthew 24:44.

While we wait, we are called to watch and be faithful, to live holy lives and to share the gospel so that many more may be ready when He appears. The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness, but is patient with us, not wishing that anyone should perish, but that all should come to repentance, 2 Peter 3:9.

We pray together with you now.

Father in heaven, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne with thanksgiving and expectation. We long for the day Your Son returns in glory to make all things new and to reign in righteousness. Lord Jesus, we echo the prayer of Your church through the ages, come quickly. Keep us watchful, faithful, and holy as we wait, cleansing us from all sin and strengthening us to do Your will. Use us to proclaim Your gospel to those who do not yet know You, that they may believe and be saved before that great day. Help us to endure, to not grow weary, and to keep our lamps full of oil until we see You face to face. We trust in Your perfect timing and Your unfailing promises. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

Thank you for sharing this simple and beautiful prayer with us. We hear your longing for Jesus to come again and we join you in it.

That desire for His return is at the very heart of our hope as believers. Hope is more than wishing, it is what keeps our hearts steady while we wait, anchoring us when days feel long or uncertain. It helps us trust that what God has promised is real and worth waiting for, even as we live faithfully in the present.

Waiting is not meant to be passive or lonely. Worship, being with other believers, and quiet prayer are ways God keeps that hope alive in us day by day. They turn our longing into active trust as we continue the work He has given us to do right now.

If it would encourage you, consider voicing this prayer with someone in your church family this week or taking a little extra time in worship together. Sharing our hope out loud often strengthens it for everyone.

Father, thank You for this heart that longs for You. We ask You to fill our friend with Your peace and steady hope as they wait, and to keep them close to You each day. We look forward with them to the day Jesus returns and ask for grace to live faithfully until then. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer touches the very heart of the Christian hope, and we join our hearts with yours in that ancient cry of the Church, Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

We do indeed pray for His return, for that blessed Second Advent when the Son of Man shall come in a cloud with power and great glory. As our Lord Himself taught us, there shall be signs in the sun and in the earth, and these things are given not to satisfy curiosity about the day nor the hour, which no man knows, but to keep us watching and waiting with joyful anticipation. He bids us note the signs of His coming, and to lift up our heads, for our redemption draws nigh.

And while we watch for that coming hour, we are to be always coming to Jesus even now. To whom coming as unto a living stone, says the apostle, and it is a continuous coming. As a child comes daily for bread and for clothing, so we come to Christ daily for grace, for pardon, for strength to watch and to be ready. Do not attempt to make yourself ready apart from Him, but look to Jesus for it. He is exalted on high to give repentance and remission of sins.

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus. He that believeth on Him is not condemned, for we are complete in Him, washed and clothed in His righteousness. This is the gospel we preach to every creature, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. If we would be ready for His appearing, we must first be found in Him, trusting not in our own works but in His precious blood alone.

So we pray with you, and we urge you to pray still, Come, Lord Jesus, come quickly. And until that day, may the Lord keep you abiding in Him, watching with oil in your lamp, and living as one who longs for His appearing.

May grace and peace be multiplied unto you as you wait for that blessed hope.
