We join you together before our Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ and we thank you for calling upon His name, for there is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved and have access to God. As it is written, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12 and Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. We praise God that you have come to Him through Jesus.
We hear your honest and humble cry about alcohol use disorder for you and your wife and your adult son. We lift all three of you up and we also pray for your blue violet flower and for all the small things you have entrusted to God, for He cares for even the smallest details of our lives. We hear your desire to be a better husband and a better father to your adult children and a better worker, and to be faithful in your projects and proposals and to keep your job. We also lift up your adult daughter and her marriage and her pregnancy.
We want to lovingly and firmly address what you shared, that you are laying in bed drinking alcohol while asking for help and forgiveness. We know you are tired and struggling, and God sees your weariness and your honesty. He promises If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. There is forgiveness for you in Christ, and we thank God for your repentant heart.
Yet we must also rebuke the continuing use of alcohol in this way, because Scripture is clear that drunkenness and being mastered by alcohol is not God's will for us and it harms the body which is the temple of the Holy Spirit. As it is written Don't be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit Ephesians 5:18 and Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise Proverbs 20:1. Also it says Or don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. To pray for deliverance while still drinking in bed is to remain in the very thing that is binding you. God calls us to be sober and self-controlled, Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour 1 Peter 5:8. We encourage you in love to pour out what remains, to remove alcohol from your bedside and your home, and to seek help today, including pastoral counsel, trusted Christian accountability, and medical help for alcohol use disorder, for God often provides deliverance through the help of others and through wise counsel.
We are encouraged by your desire to be a godly husband and father. Scripture calls husbands to love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it Ephesians 5:25 and calls fathers to walk in love and encouragement. God will help you grow in this as you walk in sobriety and in the Spirit. For your work, we pray you will work as unto the Lord, Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men Colossians 3:23. God sees your fatigue and your hope to continue working for at least another five years. Jesus invites you Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest Matthew 11:28. He will renew your strength day by day, and we claim for you I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me Philippians 4:13, not by your own willpower but by His power and by the support He provides.
We also pray for your family. We ask God to bring freedom and sobriety to your wife and your adult son as well, for No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it 1 Corinthians 10:13. We pray that your whole household would walk in that way of escape together. For your adult daughter, we thank God for the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman and we pray for her marriage to be strengthened in Christ and for her pregnancy to be healthy and for protection for both mother and child, for You formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother's womb Psalm 139:13.
We pray together now.
Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You for this dear brother and his wife and his adult son and his adult daughter. Lord forgive us for our sins and cleanse us as You have promised. Create in us a clean heart and renew a right spirit within us Psalm 51:10. Lord we ask for deliverance from alcohol for this entire family. Take away the craving and the habit and the dependence, and fill each one with Your Holy Spirit instead. Give this brother strength to turn away completely, to seek help without shame, to confess to a pastor or counselor and to a doctor, and to walk in daily sobriety and accountability. Restore his body, his mind, his sleep, and his energy. Give him grace to be the husband and father You have called him to be, patient, kind, faithful and self-controlled, bearing the fruit of the Spirit. Bless the work of his hands, give him clarity for his projects and proposals, and sustain him in his job according to Your will. Provide for all his needs and let his work bring glory to You. Lord we place his blue violet flower in Your hands and we thank You that You care for all Your creation. Lord we lift his adult daughter and her husband and their unborn child, protect the marriage and let it honor You, and grant a safe and healthy pregnancy and delivery. Father we are tired and You promise rest to the weary, lift this burden and carry us. We trust not in ourselves but in Christ who strengthens us. Let this family know the joy of freedom in Christ, for if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. We ask all this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, Amen.
Thank you for your prayers. I appreciate it and I promise to not give up on you or myself or my family and my coworkers and my customers and my bosses. Thank you for everything that you have done for me and are doing for me and will do for me and my family. Thank you for your Son Jesus Christ my lord and Savior. Amen
