Dear God should I try to keep my job or should I do something different? I'm ### years old and I have had many good different jobs. Am I at the end of life. I am very proud of myself for working so hard for so many years. Just trying to figure out what I can and should do. I think that it's Best for me to get back to work tomorrow morning and keep working as a project manager and to be able to take care of my wife and our adult kid's. It's not for me. If I didn't have my wife and our adult kid's and a good home to live in and a good company and coworkers to work with I would have nothing to do and no reason to live. Not sure if I can live with my self if I quit my job and stop helping my wife and our adult kid's. Thank you for my life and my family and my memories of having a wife and kids and pets and our good times. Yes there has been bad times too. Please help me stay alive and to be able to help my wife and our adult kid's and do you want me to be a Grandpa someday? I'm sorry for being so selfish for the last two weeks staying at home because I have not been feeling good physically and mentally exhausted. I think that everyone else has their own feelings and challenges and that I am not the only person who needs help. I'm just not sure what to do.

We hear your heart, dear brother in Christ, and we lift you up before the Lord with great compassion. Your love for your family is evident, and your desire to honor God through your work and provision is commendable. The weight you carry is heavy, but you are not alone—our Father sees your struggles and holds you in His hands.

First, let us affirm that your life has immense value, not only in what you do but in who you are in Christ. The Bible tells us in Psalm 139:13-16, *"For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well. My frame wasn’t hidden from you, when I was made in secret, woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my body. In your book they were all written, the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there were none of them."* God has ordained your days, and He has a purpose for you—whether in your current role or another. Your worth is not tied to your productivity or the opinions of others but to the fact that you are His beloved creation, redeemed by the blood of Jesus.

Your concern for your wife and adult children is beautiful and reflects the heart of a godly man who seeks to fulfill his calling as a provider and protector. Scripture calls husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the church (Ephesians 5:25) and to raise their children in the ways of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). Your desire to care for them is pleasing to God, and we pray that He strengthens you to continue in this calling. However, we must also gently remind you that your identity is not solely in being a provider. You are first and foremost a child of God, and your value in His eyes is unchanging, regardless of your employment status.

The exhaustion you feel—both physically and mentally—is real, and we want to encourage you to bring that before the Lord. Jesus invites us in Matthew 11:28, *"Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest."* It is not selfish to acknowledge your need for rest or to seek help. In fact, it is wise and biblical to do so. The Proverbs remind us, *"For lack of guidance, a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers"* (Proverbs 11:14). Have you considered speaking with a trusted pastor, counselor, or godly friend about these feelings? Sometimes, the Lord uses the wisdom of others to guide us when we are uncertain.

You mentioned feeling selfish for taking time to rest. Let us rebuke that lie gently but firmly. Rest is not selfish—it is a command from God. In the creation account, God Himself rested on the seventh day (Genesis 2:2-3), and He has woven rest into the fabric of our lives through the Sabbath. Jesus often withdrew to lonely places to pray and recharge (Luke 5:16). If the Lord Himself modeled rest, how much more do we need it? Your body and mind are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), and caring for them is an act of stewardship, not selfishness.

As for your question about whether to continue in your current job or pursue something different, we encourage you to seek the Lord’s wisdom above all else. James 1:5 tells us, *"But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him."* Pray for clarity, and ask the Lord to open or close doors according to His will. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, *"Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths."* The Lord may be calling you to stay where you are, or He may be preparing you for a new season. Either way, He will equip you for what lies ahead.

Your concern about being a grandparent someday is a beautiful desire, and we pray that the Lord grants you that joy in His timing. Children are a heritage from the Lord (Psalm 127:3), and the legacy you are building now—through your faith, your love for your family, and your obedience to God—will bear fruit for generations to come. But remember, your hope is not ultimately in your family or your work, but in Christ alone. He is the one who sustains you, and He is the one who gives you purpose.

We also want to address the spiritual weight you are carrying. You mentioned feeling like you have "no reason to live" without your family and work. While your love for them is a gift from God, we must gently warn you that placing your ultimate hope in anything other than Christ will leave you empty. Jesus warns us in Matthew 16:26, *"For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life?"* Your family and your work are blessings, but they cannot bear the weight of being your reason for living. Only Jesus can fill that role. He is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6), and in Him alone will you find true fulfillment.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother who is weary and seeking Your will. Lord, You see his heart—his love for his family, his desire to honor You, and the exhaustion he carries. We ask that You would renew his strength, both physically and spiritually. Fill him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

Father, we pray for wisdom as he seeks Your will regarding his work. If it is Your plan for him to continue in his current role, give him the energy and joy to serve faithfully. If You are calling him to something new, make the path clear and open the right doors. Help him to trust in You with all his heart, not leaning on his own understanding (Proverbs 3:5).

Lord, we ask that You would remind him of his true identity in Christ. Help him to see himself as You see him—a beloved son, redeemed by the blood of Jesus, and called for a purpose. Remind him that his worth is not found in his work or his family, but in You alone. Fill the empty places in his heart with Your love, and let him rest in the knowledge that You are his provider, his protector, and his reason for living.

We pray for his family, Lord. Bless his wife and children, and let them see Your love reflected in him. Give them grace for one another in this season, and draw them closer to You and to each other. And if it is Your will, Lord, we ask that You would grant him the joy of being a grandparent in the future, that he may see the fruit of the legacy he is building.

Father, we rebuke the spirit of despair and exhaustion that has weighed on him. We declare that he is more than a conqueror through Christ who loves him (Romans 8:37). Strengthen him with Your might, and let him rise up with renewed hope and purpose.

Finally, Lord, we ask that You would draw him closer to You. Let him find his rest in You, his strength in You, and his joy in You. May he seek Your face daily, and may his life be a testimony to Your faithfulness.

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above all names, the one who gives us access to You and through whom we are saved. Amen.

Brother, we encourage you to take this time to seek the Lord in prayer and in His Word. Spend time in the Psalms, where David poured out his heart to God in times of exhaustion and despair. Let the Lord speak to you through His Word, and trust that He will guide you. You are not alone, and your life has purpose—both now and for eternity. Keep pressing into Jesus, and He will lead you into the path of life (Psalm 16:11).
