We hear your cry for help, and we come before the throne of grace with you, lifting up your struggles to our Heavenly Father. You are not alone in this battle, and we stand with you in prayer, believing that God is able to deliver you from the grip of addiction and restore you to wholeness in Christ.
First, we must address the sin in your life with love and truth. The Bible is clear that drunkenness and the use of mind-altering substances are not pleasing to God. Ephesians 5:18 says, "Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit." Proverbs 20:1 also warns, "Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise." The alcohol and marijuana you are consuming are not only harming your body, which is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), but they are also clouding your judgment and hindering your relationship with God and your family.
We rebuke the spirit of addiction in the name of Jesus Christ. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that you may have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). You do not have to be a slave to this anymore. Romans 6:16 says, "Don’t you know that when you present yourselves as servants and obey someone, you are the servants of whomever you obey; whether of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness?" Choose this day whom you will serve. We encourage you to confess this sin, repent, and turn away from it completely. 1 John 1:9 assures us, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
Your desire to be a better husband, father, and employee is a good and godly desire. God sees your heart and He is willing to help you grow in these areas. But true change begins with surrender to Christ. You cannot do this in your own strength. Philippians 4:13 reminds us, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." We pray that you will lean on Him and allow Him to transform you from the inside out.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this dear brother who is struggling with addiction and the weight of his responsibilities. Lord, we thank You that You are a God who hears our cries and is near to the brokenhearted. We ask that You would break the chains of addiction in his life. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit and give him the strength to resist temptation. Help him to turn away from the things that are harming him and to run to You for refuge.
Father, we pray for his sobriety, not just for tomorrow but for every day ahead. Give him the courage to seek help, whether through accountability, counseling, or a support group. Surround him with godly men who will encourage him in his walk with You. Lord, we ask that You would restore his relationships with his wife and children. Help him to be the husband and father You have called him to be, leading his family with love, patience, and wisdom.
We also pray for his job, Lord. Grant him favor with his employer and the strength to perform his duties with integrity and excellence. Provide for all his family’s needs according to Your riches in glory. Most of all, we pray that he would draw near to You, seeking Your face and Your will above all else. May he find his identity and worth in Christ alone.
We rebuke every spirit of addiction, shame, and despair in the name of Jesus. We declare that this brother is more than a conqueror through Christ who loves him (Romans 8:37). We speak life, healing, and restoration over his mind, body, and spirit. Thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness and for the victory we have in Jesus. In His precious name we pray, Amen.
We encourage you to take practical steps to break free from this cycle. Start by pouring out every drop of alcohol in your home and getting rid of any drugs. James 4:7 says, "Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you." Resist the enemy’s lies and replace them with God’s truth. Spend time in prayer and in the Word daily. Psalm 119:11 says, "I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you." Memorize Scripture that will strengthen you in moments of weakness.
Consider reaching out to a pastor, a trusted Christian friend, or a biblical counselor who can walk with you through this journey. You do not have to fight this battle alone. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 reminds us, "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up."
Lastly, we want to remind you of the hope we have in Christ. No matter how far you feel you’ve strayed, God’s love for you is unchanging. Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says Yahweh, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future." God has a plan for your life, and He is able to restore what has been broken. Keep pressing into Him, and do not lose heart. Galatians 6:9 encourages us, "Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up."
