We hear the deep pain and exhaustion in your words, and we want you to know that your struggle is seen and felt. The weight of divorce, custody battles, strained relationships, and the relentless demands on your time and heart are overwhelming. You are not alone in this, many have walked this path and found God’s strength in their weakness. But first, we must address a critical truth: suffering is not God’s plan for you in the way you may fear. God does not delight in your breaking; He delights in your restoration. The Bible tells us, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly" (John 10:10 WEB). The enemy of your soul wants you to believe that suffering is endless, that you are forsaken, and that God is testing you to the point of destruction. But that is a lie.
Jesus Himself said, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30 WEB). If you are not coming to Him in this moment, if you are not crying out to Jesus, then you are carrying a burden that was never meant for you alone. We must ask: Have you surrendered this pain to Christ, or are you trying to endure it in your own strength? There is no salvation, no peace, no true rest outside of Jesus. "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5 WEB). If you have not placed your faith in Him, now is the time. Confess your need for Him, repent of any sin that may be weighing on your heart, and invite Him to be Lord of your life. Only then can you experience the freedom and peace that surpasses all understanding.
Now, let us address the specifics of your pain. Divorce is a grievous wound, especially when children are involved. The courts may have given your ex-wife rights, but they did not strip you of your identity as a father or your calling to love and provide for your children. "Fathers, don’t provoke your children to wrath, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord" (Ephesians 6:4 WEB). Even if your time with them is limited, you can still be a godly influence, through prayer, through love, and through consistency. Do not let bitterness or resentment take root. "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you" (Ephesians 4:31-32 WEB). Forgiveness does not mean what she did was right; it means you are releasing the burden of anger to God, who judges justly.
As for your fiancée, we must speak plainly: if she is pushing you away, it may be a sign that this relationship is not aligned with God’s will. Marriage is a sacred covenant, and it should be entered into with clarity, not confusion or pressure. "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14 WEB). If she is not a believer, or if she is not committed to building a Christ-centered marriage, this union will only bring more heartache. We urge you to seek godly counsel before moving forward. Pray for wisdom, and do not rush into a decision that could lead to further pain. "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6 WEB).
The exhaustion you feel, never having enough time, never feeling enough, is a tactic of the enemy to wear you down. But God did not design you to live in perpetual burnout. "For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control" (2 Timothy 1:7 WEB). You must carve out time for rest, for prayer, and for replenishing your soul. Even Jesus withdrew to quiet places to pray (Luke 5:16). If you do not prioritize your relationship with God, you will have nothing left to give others. Set boundaries. Say no when you need to. And trust that God will multiply the time you do have.
We also must address the sin of fornication if it is present in your relationship with your fiancée. If you are living together or engaging in sexual intimacy outside of marriage, this is displeasing to God and will only bring further brokenness. "Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers" (Hebrews 13:4 WEB). Repentance and separation may be necessary to align your life with God’s will. This is not to shame you but to call you to holiness, for your own good and for the glory of God.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts for our brother who is weary and broken. Lord, You see his pain, his exhaustion, and his confusion. We ask that You would draw near to him in this moment. Remind him that You are not a God who delights in suffering, but a God who heals, restores, and redeems. Lord, we pray for his relationship with his children. Even if the courts have limited his time with them, we ask that You would give him opportunities to be a godly father, to love them, teach them, and point them to You. Soften his ex-wife’s heart, and guard his heart against bitterness.
Father, we lift up his engagement. If this relationship is not Your will, we ask that You would make that clear to him. Give him wisdom and discernment, and protect him from making a decision out of loneliness or fear. If this woman is not the one You have for him, we pray for the strength to walk away and trust You for the future. Lord, we also ask for conviction where sin is present. If there is sexual immorality, reveal it to him, and give him the courage to repent and seek holiness.
Most of all, Jesus, we pray that You would be his peace, his strength, and his hope. Remind him that he is not defined by his circumstances but by Your love for him. Teach him to cast his burdens on You, for You care for him (1 Peter 5:7). Renew his mind, refresh his spirit, and restore his joy. Help him to find rest in You alone.
We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the only name by which we are saved. Amen.
You are not lost. You are not forgotten. You are loved by a God who collects every tear and hears every cry. "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18 WEB). Keep pressing into Him. Keep seeking His face. And trust that He is working all things together for your good, even when you cannot see it. You are not alone in this. We stand with you, and we believe that God will bring beauty from these ashes.
