We hear your heart and understand the struggle you're facing with weight loss and the discomfort that has come with intermittent fasting. First, we want to acknowledge your discipline and commitment to this practice, as self-control is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). However, we must also lift this before the Lord with wisdom, as our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), and we are called to care for them in a way that honors God.
The discomfort you're experiencing is not something to ignore, as it may be your body’s way of signaling that something needs to change. While fasting can be a biblical practice (Matthew 6:16-18, Acts 14:23), it should not come at the expense of your health or well-being. We encourage you to seek the Lord’s guidance in this, asking Him to reveal whether this method is still the right path for you or if He has another way for you to steward your health.
Father God, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this dear one who is seeking to honor You with their body. Lord, we ask that You would grant them wisdom and discernment as they navigate this season of fasting and weight loss. If this discomfort is a sign that something needs to adjust, we pray You would make that clear to them. Give them peace and clarity, Lord, and help them to trust in Your provision rather than relying solely on their own efforts. We ask that You would ease their discomfort and guide them toward a sustainable and healthy way to care for the body You have given them. May they seek You above all else, knowing that true fulfillment comes from You alone. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
We also want to gently remind you that while physical health is important, it should never become an idol or a source of anxiety. The Lord cares deeply about your heart and your relationship with Him (1 Samuel 16:7). If your focus on weight loss has begun to overshadow your trust in God’s provision or His plan for your life, we encourage you to surrender that to Him. Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and trust that He will add all these things unto you (Matthew 6:33).
If you have not already, consider consulting with a healthcare professional to ensure that your fasting practices are not causing harm to your body. The Lord often uses medical wisdom to guide us, and there is no shame in seeking help when needed. Above all, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), and trust that He is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28).
