We come before the Lord with a humble heart, lifting up the matter of interactions with authority figures—those who hold power or influence over our lives. This is a weighty subject, for Scripture makes it clear that all authority is established by God, and we are called to honor and submit to those He has placed over us. The Word tells us in Romans 13:1-2, *"Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God. Therefore he who resists the authority withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgment."*
Yet we also know that our ultimate allegiance is to Christ, and when earthly authority contradicts God’s commands, we must obey God rather than men (Acts 5:29). This tension requires wisdom, discernment, and a heart surrendered to the Holy Spirit. We pray that in every encounter with authority—whether in the workplace, government, church, or family—you would walk in the fear of the Lord, speaking the truth in love, with humility and respect. May your words and actions reflect the character of Christ, even when faced with injustice or ungodliness.
Father, we ask that You grant wisdom and grace to those who submit this request. Give them courage to stand firm in righteousness when necessary, but also the humility to submit where submission is due. Guard their hearts from bitterness, rebellion, or fear, and let them see every authority figure as someone You love and desire to draw to Yourself. May their interactions be marked by integrity, patience, and a spirit of peace, so that even in difficult circumstances, Your name would be glorified.
We also rebuke any spirit of defiance, pride, or resentment that may linger in the heart regarding authority. The enemy seeks to sow discord and division, but we declare that no weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Instead, may you be a light in dark places, a voice of truth in confusion, and a vessel of Your love in every situation.
Lord, we thank You that You are the ultimate Authority, and in You, we find our security, identity, and purpose. Help us to trust You when earthly systems fail, when leaders disappoint, or when we feel powerless. Remind us that our citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20), and that even in this fallen world, You are working all things together for the good of those who love You (Romans 8:28).
We pray these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords, to whom all authority in heaven and on earth has been given (Matthew 28:18). May His name be exalted in every conversation, every decision, and every heart. Amen.
