INTENSE SPIRITUAL WARFARE: HELP ME TO GET RID OF THESE THOUGHTS PLEASE 🙏

You speak of dark thoughts and a shadow following you, of dreams with yellow snakes, and you cry out for deliverance. But mark carefully: the present life is a sleep, and the things in it are no different from dreams. As those who slumber see frightful visions and are troubled, yet upon waking they are freed, so it is with the soul that awakens to Christ. You wish these thoughts to be cast out once and for all; then you must shake off the deep slumber of worldly imaginings and put on virtue as a garment. The Lord is a stronghold to them that fear Him, and a clear conscience makes a man bold; but he who lives entangled in sin trembles even at his own inward thoughts and can find no quiet. You are not bound by necessity or nature, sin is a matter of choice, and you have the root of blessing within you if you exercise your will for good. Therefore, choose this day to rouse yourself; do not lie dreaming among the serpents and swine that drag ever in the mire of earthly passions.

What do these yellow snakes signify but the creeping, venomous attachments that coil around the heart that is set on vain things? When you dream of them, it is your soul’s token that you are still making provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts. Yet the Apostle does not forbid caring for the body, but caring for it beyond necessity, so as to kindle wantonness. Bring your body into subjection for health’s sake, and devote all your industry to the things of the Spirit. You ask for the blood of Jesus to cover your life and for all darkness to be cast out. This is a right prayer, but do you not know that you must also flee the darkness yourself? The blood of Christ cleanses the conscience from dead works when you turn from them and cling to Him with your whole affection. Consider the blessed Paul: for the sake of Christ he counted even heavenly things as nothing, ready to be separated from the kingdom if only he might be with Him. How far are we from such largeness of soul, when we cry for deliverance yet still hold fast to the mire!

Do not imagine that your traumas and wounds can be erased from memory as if they had never been. God does not promise to make you forget, but to heal the sting and transform your mind by the continual recollection of His word. Those who have fallen after great deeds, who even worked miracles and then stumbled, were told by the Apostle: if you have a mind to shake off drowsiness and recover yourselves, it is not in vain. There is no wound that cannot be cured by the true Physician, if you will unburden yourself completely before Him in honest confession and then walk henceforth as a child of the day. The dark shadow will flee when you stand in the light of Christ; the lies spoken against you, whether by demons or by men, will be exposed and destroyed, not because you demand it, but because you are clad in righteousness and your life itself bears witness to the truth.

Let every thought be taken captive to the obedience of Christ. When the enemy whispers, answer him with the remembrance of God’s mercies; when the flesh rebels, recall that you have put on Christ and are not your own. You dream of snakes? Awake, and behold the Lord sitting upon a high throne, and the Seraphim crying, “Holy, Holy, Holy.” Turn your inner eye to that vision, and the venomous images will lose their power. God did not spare His own Son for you; will He not with Him freely give you all things needful for victory? Only do not ask for a painless warfare, but for the strength to despise the assault, knowing that even to suffer for Christ is better than to slumber in soft ease. Put off the works of darkness, and let the daylight of virtue find you ready, free from the dreams that vanish at His appearing. Then shall you walk confidently, with no shadow able to follow you, for the Lord Himself will be your everlasting light.

Your cry reveals a soul caught in the crossfire of a very real spiritual battle, and I want to steady you with the unchanging truth that has already secured your freedom. The enemy’s attacks on your thoughts, the shadows, the dreams, these are not signs of God’s absence but of a war that Christ has already won. The only ground where your mind can find rest is the ground soaked in the blood of Jesus. That blood is not a symbol of weakness; it is the very life of God poured out to put away sin once and for all. Where the blood of bulls could only cover, the blood of Jesus cleanses to the core. No dark thought, no trauma, no accusation from the pit can survive when that blood is applied to your life. It is precious, holy, and it speaks a better word over you than every lying whisper.

Do not let the intensity of the assault convince you that you are held by it. The mind is like a throne: either the flesh sits there, bringing death and turmoil, or the Spirit rules, bringing life and peace. When dark thoughts rush in, that is not the real you. You have been bought with that blood, and the Spirit dwells in you. The carnal mind is at war with God, but your mind, when yielded to Jesus, becomes a place of peace. The sword that cuts through every foul thought is the Word of God. Christ Himself, when faced with the tempter, drew the blade of Scripture. So when the enemy hisses, you remember: the blood of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, cleanses from all sin. That single truth is a shield no flaming dart can pierce.

There is no need to dissect every dark dream or understand every shadow. Evil spirits operate in a realm we are not given full maps of, but we are given a name above every name. That name is Jesus. I have seen tormented souls completely delivered not by mastering the darkness but by simply calling on that name with the grit of faith. Your family’s deliverance, your healing from hidden wounds, these flow not from your effort to uproot memories by force, but from resting under the covering of the Lamb. Your past, no matter what lies there, has been washed. You are not a prisoner of trauma when the blood speaks a better word over your history than the memory itself.

Right now, put on the armor God has given you. Wrap your heart in the breastplate of righteousness, not your own, but the righteousness given to you through faith in Jesus. That armor stops Satan’s accusations dead. Lift the shield of faith against every fiery dart of fear and condemnation. Your faith is not in a feeling; it is in a finished work. The cross is not a starting point you leave behind; it is the eternal anchor. When condemnation rises, let your mind echo this: there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus. The mind of the Spirit is life and peace, and that is your inheritance right now.

Do not try to fight this battle with the mind of the flesh. That mind only breeds death. Instead, set your thoughts on things above, on the blood that has made you clean, the resurrection that seats you with Christ, the inheritance that is yours as a child of God. The lies spoken against you, whether in the air or within walls of stone, are exposed and shattered by His truth. You are not what they say. You are who He says you are: washed, sanctified, and justified.

Let every thought that is not of God be starved out by filling your mind with His Word. Meditate on it day and night. Let the truth of the gospel be your meditation when you lie down, so that the peace of that blood-bought covenant guards your sleep. The shadow has no substance when the light of Christ shines. The snakes in the dream have no authority over a life hidden in Him. Jesus walked into the synagogue and went straight to the man with the withered hand because He is drawn to the deepest need. He is drawn to you. He touches you now and says, “Arise, don’t be afraid.” His blood covers you. His peace will garrison your mind. Walk in that, and the darkness will flee.
