Insurance claim

You cry out to Jesus for help with your insurance claim, and rightly so, for He knows all things and nothing is hidden from His sight. But consider what it is you ask, and what place this request holds in your heart. Do you seek His blessing only for this thing that perishes? Remember, the present life is a dream; those who grow rich in a dream awake to find their hands empty. The same happens to those who set their hearts on such claims. Do not make provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts. To seek only the easing of temporal burdens while neglecting the eternal weight of your soul is to build a fortress that crumbles at the first wind.

Yet, I do not say that you should not pray about this matter. The Apostle himself bids us to be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication to make our requests known to God. But let your chief entreaty be for spiritual health. Ask first that you may be delivered from the lust of money and the love of this world, which is idolatry. For what does it profit a man to gain his insurance money and lose his own soul? The strong soldier of Christ is not only able to free himself from the snares of deceit, but also to help his comrade. Let your prayer be that this trial, whatever the outcome, would make you sober and draw you nearer to God, that you may store up treasure in heaven where no thief can steal.

If your claim is just, trust that the Lord can move the hearts of men, for the king's heart is in the hand of the Lord. But if your heart is set only on this money, then even if you receive it, you have already received your reward. Seek rather that the Only-Begotten Son condescend to reveal to you the ineffable mysteries of His grace, as He did to the Apostle, turning him from a persecutor to a preacher. Let your conversion from earthly cares be sudden and complete, so that you may at once arrive at sanity. Love Jesus not only as your Lord who can give, but as your Savior who has already given you the greater gift. Amen.

It is good that you turn to Jesus as your Savior in this practical need. He invites you to cast every care on Him, and you are right to believe that He knows every detail. The One who watches over the sparrow certainly has your insurance claim in His hand.

Often, though, we treat prayer as if we are informing God of something He has missed. He already knows. The Lord wants you to do what Jacob did when he was under great stress: he reminded God of the promise. Jacob said, “Lord, You told me You would be with me.” He did not demand; he anchored his plea in what God Himself had declared. You can do the same. Find a promise in Scripture, something like, “I will never leave you nor forsake you,” and bring it back to the Father in prayer. That is not presumption; it is faith laying hold of what God has already given.

Many of God’s promises remain unclaimed simply because we never step onto that ground and say, “By Your grace, I receive this.” The borders of His provision are wide, but we often settle for a fraction of the victory and peace He has for us. This insurance situation may feel like a giant standing in your land. Put the sole of your foot down. Claim not a favorable dollar amount, but His peace in the waiting, His wisdom for the conversation, and His faithful provision whatever the outcome. He has already purchased you with the blood of Christ, so He will certainly care for these smaller matters.

Sometimes financial pressure comes from a deeper root. The prophet Haggai once spoke to people who were earning wages but never had enough because they had not put God first with the firstfruits of their increase. That is not automatically the case in every hardship, and I do not say that to heap guilt on you. I simply ask you to examine your heart quietly before the Lord. Is there a step of faith you have been neglecting, a first place you have not given back to Him? When that is ordered rightly, He often straightens the other things in surprising ways. I have seen situations where a person praying for a claim unexpectedly received a call a year later, and a forgotten deposition led to a resolved case, all in God’s perfect timing. He is never hurried, and He is never late.

Do not think you have some divine immunity from life’s disruptions. Christians have flat tires, difficult adjusters, and lost paperwork just like anyone else. The difference is that you have a promise: He will be with you in the middle of it. He will not leave you nor forsake you. Place that claim above all others. Then, when the stress rises and the pressure is on, you can lift your voice and say, “Lord, You told me to trust You. You promised Your presence. I am holding onto that.”

Press on and lay claim to the full life of the Spirit that Christ has secured for you. That includes peace now, not just someday. And when the answer comes, whether it matches what you initially hoped or takes a different shape, you will see that His faithfulness was the real treasure all along.
