Bread of Heaven/ Word of Life/ Jesus is the word of God

Isaiah 65:1 – “I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me; I was found by those who did not seek me. To a nation that did not call on my name, I said, ‘Here am I, here am I.'”

This profound truth speaks to the very nature of God. He is not confined to the boundaries of our understanding or the limitations of our pursuit. God is actively involved in the world, reaching out to the lost and the disenfranchised, beckoning them to recognize His presence.

The phrase "I am sought of them that asked not for me" indicates that God is willing to reveal Himself to those who are not in active pursuit of Him. How often do we consider our lives, our experiences, our struggles, as barriers to seeking God? Many times, when we are at our lowest, we forget to seek Him, believing that we must first fix our problems before approaching Him. Yet, Isaiah reminds us that God’s grace is abundant, available even to those who feel unworthy.

In Luke 19:10, He states, "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost." This divine pursuit reinforces the idea that God is always ready to be found, even by those not seeking Him.

The second part of the verse, "I am found of them that sought me not," introduces us to the incredible grace of God. It offers a promise, a reassurance that God desires relationship over perfection. It is an invitation to the seekers and the wanderers to encounter a loving God who desires to be in communion with them regardless of their past.

As we meditate on Isaiah 65:1, let us reflect on our own lives. Are we aware of the times God has reached out to us, despite our unworthiness? When have we experienced His presence when we weren’t actively seeking Him? Let us acknowledge that God is always near, calling us to behold Him, to recognize His hand in our lives, regardless of our current state.

A Prayer for the Unseen Grace of God
Our prayer:
O Heavenly Father, Creator of the universe and Author of life, we come before You with our heart uplifted in gratitude for the depth of Your mercy and the richness of Your grace.
We also reflect on our own spiritual journey, recognizing the moments when we, too, had not sought after You earnestly. Thank You, LORD God, for finding us in our waywardness, for calling our name when we were lost. We are forever grateful that You wove our life intricately within Your grand design, finding us when we felt unworthy and uncalled.

As we grow deeper in Your Word and understand more of Your character, we pray that we will never take this for granted. Help us to walk with humility and to share the good news with urgency, knowing full well that others are positioned just as we were. With our heart attuned to Your call, may we foster a spirit of compassion and urgency, watching for signs of need and moments where Your love can be poured out through our words and actions.

In closing, we ask for Your grace to envelope those who seek You not, and we pray that through our actions and words, more may come to know You and be drawn to Your heart. We trust in Your promises and hold fast to the faith that You are ever-present, calling forth those who need to hear, ‘Behold me, behold me.’ May we always be ready to respond to Your voice and to join in the sacred work of drawing others into the embrace of Your eternal love. We join with you in giving thanks for this beautiful meditation on the seeking heart of our God and we say amen to the truth you have shared from Isaiah 65:1, I am inquired of by those who didn't ask, I am found by those who didn't seek me, I said, See me, see me, to a nation that was not called by my name.

What a comfort to be reminded that our salvation did not begin with our pursuit of God but with His pursuit of us. While we were still lost and without strength, He came to seek us. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost, Luke 19:10. And as you noted, we love Him because He first loved us and sought us when we were not seeking Him. This is the abundance of His grace, that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us, Romans 5:8, and it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast, Ephesians 2:8-9.

We are reminded also that the apostle Paul quotes this very passage in Romans 10:20, Isaiah is very bold and says, I was found by those who didn't seek me, I was revealed to those who didn't ask for me. This shows God's sovereign mercy to call a people who were not a people and to draw near to those who felt far off and unworthy. Jesus Himself taught that no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, John 6:44, and yet He stands at the door and knocks, inviting all who hear His voice to open and commune with Him, Revelation 3:20.

We praise God that He is the Bread of Heaven and the Word of Life, for Jesus said I am the bread of life, he who comes to me will not hunger, and he who believes in me will never thirst, John 6:35, and in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, John 1:1. He is not distant or confined to our understanding, but near, living and active, desiring relationship over perfection.

We pray together with you in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have access to the Father, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your unseen grace that sought us when we did not seek You and found us when we were wandering. Thank You for revealing Yourself to us while we were yet lost and for calling to us, Here I am, here I am, even when we felt unworthy to approach You. Forgive us for the times we have believed we must fix ourselves before coming to You, and help us to rest in the finished work of Jesus Christ who came to seek and to save us. Deepen our communion with You through Your Word, make us humble and attentive to Your voice, and give us compassion and urgency to share Your love with others who have not yet heard Your call. Draw those today who are not seeking You, envelope them in Your mercy, and use our words and actions to point them to the eternal love found only in Jesus. We trust in Your ever present grace and we say yes to Your invitation anew. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to behold Him daily, to respond quickly when He calls, and to watch for the ways His hand is at work even in chaotic and exhausting seasons, for He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ, Philippians 1:6.

The text you have laid upon your heart is indeed a well of living water, and you have drawn from it rightly. "I am sought of them that asked not for me, I am found of them that sought me not." Here is sovereign grace in its freest form, and here is the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

You have observed truly that God is not waiting as one who must be coaxed or purchased, for the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. It is a gift and not a prize. There are crowns to be run for and rewards to be sought by divine help, but this grace which forgives sin and works faith in the soul is not a prize for exertion, but a gift for those without strength. It is freely given to us of God, and that word freely should be much upon our minds. He comes in sovereign grace to those who seek Him not. He is like the dew which waits not for man, neither tarries for the sons of men.

And what need had we of such a coming. Apart from divine grace we are lost by nature and lost by our own actions. Our inward inclinations have developed themselves in our conduct, and we have lost ourselves by our own acts and deeds. The Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost, and oh, how emphatically lost we were. He did nothing for show, nothing for mere custom, but everything to work solid good and to erase real evil. There was need of healing, for the disease would never have died out by itself. It required His hand.

Take comfort then in this, that a man's sins may be really forgiven long before he knows it, for it is written, I have blotted out as a thick cloud thy transgressions. If you knew it fully there would be no need to tell you, but you are told that you may know it and return. Hear the Lord's own word, Return unto me, for I have redeemed thee. Come along as a sinner, as one who feels himself lost and guilty, and come to Jesus, for He has blotted out your transgressions as a thick cloud and as a cloud your sins.

Oh, the magnificence of this grace that waits not for man but works according to the eternal purposes of God. It does not find us worthy and then love us, it makes us worthy of love by its own working. True believers are made good at heart, for divine grace has made them so, and God will therefore do them good and bless them more and more and sanctify them and prepare them for the glory at His right hand.

You ask how you should respond to such a God who says, Behold me, behold me. Respond by believing on the Lord Jesus Christ, for there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. Respond by looking into His Word for comfort and continuing to look till your eyes seem to fail, for His eyes do not fail nor His arm. Respond by walking with humility and by sharing this good news with urgency, watching for souls who are as you once were, that they also may be found of Him.

May the Lord visit your garden and breathe upon it with the breath of heaven, so that the spices of His grace within you may flow forth not for your own delight alone but for your Beloved's sake, that He may come into His garden and eat His pleasant fruits. May He strengthen you to know that your sins are forgiven you for His name's sake, and keep you from despair, and make you a witness to others that Jesus still seeks and saves the lost.

We join our prayer with yours, that the Lord would reveal Himself to many who seek Him not, and that you and all who hear His voice would turn to Him with full confidence in His finished work, and find in Him all the mercy and grace you need.

Thank you for sharing this meditation on Isaiah 65:1. Your reflection rightly points to a wonderful truth about God, that He takes the initiative to seek us before we seek Him, saying Here am I to those who did not ask for Him.

Scripture shows this clearly. As you noted, the Lord says I was found by those who did not seek me, and Jesus Himself says He came to seek and to save that which was lost. This is pure grace. We contribute nothing to earn it, and we are saved not because we are worthy but though we are unworthy. All the grace is the free gift of the One who gives it, so that no one may boast, for no one is justified by works but by faith.

At the same time this grace is not given so that we may remain idle or unchanged. When God reveals Himself, He calls for a response. He calls us to turn to Him in faith through Jesus Christ alone, to come with the humility of a little child, to repent and to trust Him, and then to show the fruit of that new life in love, joy and peace. The gift is free, but it is also a call to live as those who have received liberty, not to delay or to say we must first make ourselves better before we come.

It is right to give thanks, as you prayed, that God found us in our waywardness and called us when we felt unworthy. Let that gratitude keep us humble and watchful, and move us to share the good news with urgency with others who are still not seeking Him, so that they too may hear His voice and respond.
