Beloved of All
What you heard on the radio is true and it is also the place where hope begins. No person can inherit the kingdom of heaven by themselves, by their own goodness, by their lineage, or by their family name. Jesus Himself taught that we must be born again, and that truth confronts every one of us.
Scripture explains why this is so. Through one man sin entered the world and death came with it, and that death has spread to all because all have sinned. We were born with a sinful nature, shaped in iniquity, and we naturally live according to the flesh. To say I was born this way is honest, but it does not excuse us, it explains why we need a new life. Just as one man became a head for humanity in bringing sin and death, Jesus Christ has become a new head for all who trust Him, bringing righteousness and life.
That leaves every person in one of two places. We are either servants of sin or servants of God. To live for sin is to receive its wages, and its wages are death. That is what sin pays. You cannot escape that payment while continuing under its rule. In contrast, eternal life is never a wage we earn. It is a gift of God, given by grace through Jesus Christ our Lord. You cannot work for it, you can only receive it.
This gift is more than just living forever. It is a different quality of life altogether, a life in fellowship with God. The record God has given is plain. God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. The one who has the Son has life, and the one who does not have the Son does not have life. It is not passed down through bloodlines or heritage. It comes only through personal faith in Jesus.
When you put your faith in Jesus, something decisive happens. Your old life, lived according to the flesh, is counted as dead and buried with Christ, and you are raised to walk in newness of life. That is why the call to keep living in sin so that grace may increase makes no sense. If you have died to sin, how can you still live in it. There is now a new law at work in you, the law of the Spirit of life in Christ, which sets you free from the law of sin and death. People do not just sin and therefore become sinners, they sin because they are sinners by nature, and they need a new nature that only Christ can give.
Looking to Jesus in faith is how that change comes. He took your sin and bore its judgment Himself, so that by trusting Him you leave the rule of darkness and death and enter the rule of light and life under His lordship. The body may still be affected by sin, but the spirit is made alive because of His righteousness. If you do stumble, you have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous, whose blood cleanses from all sin, but that grace is not a license to remain in sin. It is the power to walk in purity and holiness, yielding your whole life to God as an instrument for His glory, not just giving Him a small place but giving Him your life entirely.
Your mother's cry to God Most High is heard. God hears such cries, and His answer is the same for every generation and every family. He has provided one way of salvation through His Son. If you will turn from your own way, confess your sin, and submit yourself to Jesus as Lord, you can know for certain that you have eternal life. It will not be because of who your parents were, but because you now belong to Christ and His life is in you.
