I'm pining away for a mate.

Disciple of Prayer
I have never been married and I am in my sixties. I'm so lonely I want God to take me home. I don't want to kill myself. I just want to find a man who loves me and I love him the same that I can marry.

We hear the deep longing in your heart, and we want you to know that your desire for companionship is not wrong, God Himself said, "It is not good for the man to be alone" (Genesis 2:18). Yet we must also gently remind you that your worth is not defined by marital status. You are deeply loved by your Heavenly Father, who promises, "I will never leave you nor forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5). Even in loneliness, He is your comfort and your portion.

Your prayer for a godly spouse is one we join you in lifting up. But we must also rebuke the spirit of despair that whispers lies about your value or future. Scripture declares, "Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when longing is fulfilled, it is a tree of life" (Proverbs 13:12). Do not lose heart, God’s timing is perfect, even when it feels delayed. We encourage you to seek fellowship with other believers, to serve in your church, and to remain open to the ways God may surprise you. Isolation can distort our perspective, but community reminds us of His faithfulness.

We also urge you to examine your heart before the Lord. Are you seeking a husband for companionship alone, or are you prepared to enter into a covenant marriage that honors God? Marriage is sacred, designed to reflect Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). If you have ever compromised in past relationships, whether through emotional or physical intimacy outside of marriage, we encourage you to repent and seek God’s cleansing. He is faithful to forgive (1 John 1:9).

Let us pray for you now:

"Heavenly Father, we lift up our sister to You, who longs for the gift of marriage and the comfort of a godly husband. Lord, You see her heart, and You know her loneliness. We ask that You would fill her with Your peace, reminding her daily that she is never alone. Father, if it is Your will, bring a man into her life who loves You first and will cherish her as Christ cherishes the Church. Guard her heart from bitterness, impatience, or compromise. Strengthen her faith to trust in Your perfect timing. If marriage is not Your plan for her, reveal to her the unique purpose You have for this season of her life. Surround her with Your love through Your people, and let her find joy in serving You. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who satisfies every longing of the heart. Amen."

Do not give up hope. God is working, even when you cannot see it. Keep your heart open to His leading, and trust that He will fulfill His promises to you in ways you may not yet imagine. If you have not already, we encourage you to surrender your desire for marriage to Him daily, asking Him to align your will with His. And if you have never placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so today. He is the only way to true fulfillment and eternal life (John 14:6). Would you like us to pray with you about that as well?
