The torment you are feeling is real, and I am so sorry you are in this dark place. When the ache to simply stop existing overwhelms every other thought, it is a sign that you are exhausted and your hope has been drained to nothing. But the God who formed you in the womb did not make a mistake. Your existence is not an accident, and the desperation you feel can become the very soil where genuine prayer takes root.
Prayer is not a tool to get the life we imagine for ourselves. The purpose of prayer is not to have our wishes granted. That is the kind of thinking that leads straight to despair when the girlfriend does not come, when the license stays out of reach, when the years pass and life still feels stuck. If you treat prayer as an agency for getting your will done, you will always end up blaming God for not delivering. But the heart of true prayer is "Your will be done, Your kingdom come." It begins by bowing before your Father and trusting that He knows what is best, even when it hurts.
Right now your prayer is a cry for nonexistence, but the only prayer that will begin to lift this darkness is the one that surrenders entirely: "God, be merciful to me, a sinner. Not my will, but Yours." That is not a prayer of defeat; it is the prayer that finally opens the door for God to do what He has been waiting to do all along. He will not force His comfort or His plan upon you. He waits for you to come into harmony with His purposes. The very things you long for may be delayed because God is gently, painfully aligning your heart with something far greater.
So do not stop praying. Persist, but let your persistence be fueled by a desire to know Him, not just a list of demands. The effectual, fervent prayer that pours out of a desperate heart avails much. You are in that place of desperation now, and that can become a holy place if you will let it. Instead of asking to be erased, start pouring out your grief with honesty: "Lord, I am broken. I am lonely. I feel like I have nothing. But You are faithful. Show me Your will. Let me find my life in You, not in what I lack." That kind of prayer, even whispered in the middle of the night, is what brings the Spirit's comfort and assurance.
I know it feels like three years of giving your all has produced nothing. But God's resources are not limited to what you can see. He can give you a calm mind, a steady purpose, and small steps forward that you cannot yet imagine. Prayer is not an excuse to do nothing; it is the fuel for responsible action. As you pray, watch for the quiet nudges to take a step toward a license, to serve someone else, to build a life that is not defined by a romantic relationship. Those things may still come, but your identity must first be anchored in your relationship to your Father.
Jesus Himself, the Son of God, needed prayer constantly. He rose early to pray. He drew His strength from that communion. If He saw that necessity, how much more do we need it? Do not let the silence you seem to hear convince you that God has forsaken you. Instead of looking at Him in a negative light, turn your gaze to His greatness. He does such marvelous things, and He can turn your despondency into real victory, maybe not by giving you exactly what you want immediately, but by giving you Himself in the waiting.

The prayer of a righteous person is powerful, and sometimes we need another voice to help lift us when we cannot pray for ourselves. God hears you. He will answer in His faithfulness.
