I want to believe in myself and God again

We have heard your heart in this request and we ache with you over the cruel words spoken over you that you are worthless, useless and bad. Those words are lies and we rebuke them together in Jesus name. They do not come from God and they do not define who you are. The enemy is the father of lies and he seeks to steal your hope and your identity, but God speaks truth over you and His truth is what stands forever.

The Lord says you are fearfully and wonderfully made in Psalm 139:14, that you are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works in Ephesians 2:10, and that you are precious in His sight and He loves you in Isaiah 43:4. He says He is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit in Psalm 34:18, and that nothing can separate you from His love in Romans 8:38-39. He has plans for you, plans for peace and not for evil, to give you hope and a future in Jeremiah 29:11. You are not worthless, you are chosen and dearly loved, a new creation in Christ as 2 Corinthians 5:17 teaches.

We also want to gently speak to your desire to believe in yourself and in God again. We understand the longing to feel confident and worthy again after being torn down, but Scripture teaches us that our worth and our strength are not found by looking inward to ourselves alone, but by looking upward to Christ who lives in us. We are not called to believe in ourselves apart from God, but to believe God and to trust what He says about us and to find our confidence in Him. Philippians 4:13 says we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us, and Proverbs 3:5-6 calls us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding. When we believe God, He restores our ability to see ourselves as He sees us.

We notice you mentioned God but did not mention Jesus, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we come to God and are made whole again. John 14:6 says Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through Him. Acts 4:12 reminds us there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. If you have not yet placed your full trust in Jesus, we encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, for Romans 10:9 promises you will be saved. It is by His blood that we are forgiven, made new, and given a new name as children of God.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we lift this precious one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. We ask You to heal the deep wounds left by those harsh and untrue words. Wash away the lies that say worthless and useless and bad, and replace them with Your truth. Help this dear one to see themselves as You see them, loved, valued, redeemed and purposed. Restore faith where doubt has taken hold, and draw them close to You again. Give them a hunger for Your Word so their mind may be renewed day by day in Romans 12:2, and surround them with faithful believers who will speak life and encouragement over them. Fill them with Your peace and help them to believe You again with their whole heart, and to find their confidence not in themselves alone but in Christ who dwells within them. We ask that You make Your presence known in a powerful way and lead them into the hope and future You have prepared. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen.

We encourage you to stay in the Word each day, even in small portions, and to bring every painful thought to God in prayer and ask Him what He says about you. Seek fellowship with a Bible believing church where you can be built up and reminded of your identity in Christ. When those old words return, answer them with what God has spoken. You are not what others have called you, you are who God says you are, and He says you are His.

Thank you for sharing this so honestly. Hearing over and over that you are worthless and bad can make it feel true, and it makes sense that it would shake both how you see yourself and how you see God.

We want you to know we do not see you that way, and God does not either. Those hurtful labels describe the cruelty of the words that were spoken to you, not the truth of who you are. In Christ our identity is not built on what others have said about us or even on how we feel about ourselves on a hard day. It is built on being created and loved by God, with value that does not have to be earned. Learning to live before that one audience again takes time, especially when old thoughts keep repeating.

It can help to have one safe person to walk with you while you sort through this. If these low feelings linger, please consider reaching out to a pastor or a Christian counselor or another trusted professional alongside prayer, so you are not carrying this alone.

We are praying for you and we will keep praying.

Father, we lift our friend to You today. You see the pain these words have caused and the weariness underneath them. Quiet the harsh voices they have heard and help them to hear Yours instead, gentle and true. Remind them day by day that they are Your creation, known and loved. Give them strength for today and trusted people to walk beside them. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

There is a sorrowful sound in your words, and I hear the wound of having been told so cruelly that you are worthless and bad. To be so spoken to by the lips of another is to be bruised indeed, and it is no wonder that faith itself seems to have fainted within you.

Yet let me set before you a truth which may turn your very sense of unworthiness into a doorway of hope. A sense of unworthiness finds a fit companion in strong faith in Christ. When you have no faith in yourself there is more room in the soul for faith in Jesus. If you have confidence in yourself, that bit of self is filled, but if you have no confidence in yourself, your soul is one great vacuum and you can hold more of Christ. The greater the emptiness, the more room for that which is to be the fullness.

Do not seek, then, to believe in yourself again as though strength would come from self. Scripture tells us plainly, in me, that is in my flesh, dwells no good thing. If we look within for worth we shall find only sin and weakness. But God has set forth Christ Jesus to be a propitiation through faith in His blood, and salvation is in Christ, wholly in Christ, in Christ alone. The moment any soul trusts Him genuinely to be sole and only Saviour, that soul has accepted God's propitiation and God has accepted that soul.

You say you feel bad and useless. Hear then the comfort of the gospel. The right of a sinner to come to Christ does not lie in the sinner, nor in any feelings which the sinner may have had, it lies in the fact that Christ commands him to come. No man is in a right state to come to Christ till he thinks he is not in a right state to come to Christ. If you have no reason whatever why you should be saved except the free grace of God in Christ, then take that free grace here and now. Believe the more in Christ because you cannot, in any degree, believe in yourself.

And what is it to be in Christ. All who are in Him by faith are perfect in Christ Jesus. Though frailties and weaknesses remain in the flesh, yet in Him you are chosen, you are risen in Him, you are made to sit in heavenly places in Him. Christ in you, by faith, becomes the hope of glory. It is not a distant Christ, but Christ accepted, Christ possessed, Christ experienced within, curing your sin, filling your soul with love to holiness and bathing your heart in comfort.

Christ was bound that you might be set free. Barabbas was set free when Jesus was given up to be crucified, and so every soul that trusts Him is loosed from bonds. Your life, then, is not dependent upon yourself, but is safe in your Lord. Christ is your life, and He works in you mightily by His Holy Spirit. As surely as you have eternal life by reason of faith in Christ Jesus, so surely shall you reach its fullness when Christ who is your life shall appear.

I pray you will not look for some singular emotion or some worthiness in yourself to make believing possible. You would not then be believing in God's Word, but in the emotion. Rest in Christ every day, and keep right on believing. Come to Him just as you are, worthless in yourself, but infinitely valued in Him who loved you and gave Himself for you, and He will not cast you out.

Your desire to believe again is itself a sign that God is already at work in you, and I thank you for sharing this so honestly. To be told you are worthless, useless and bad is a deep wound, and it is understandable that those words would make it hard to trust either yourself or God.

Those cruel words are not the voice of God. God does not speak that way about you. Scripture shows that He formed you, He knows you fully, and He considers you of such value that Christ gave Himself for you. When you feel worthless, remember that your worth is not measured by what others have said, but by what God has done. He testifies to the value of those who turn to Him, just as He testified that Abel was righteous because of his faith. You are not forgotten or useless in His sight.

Faith often requires rising above what our senses and our reason tell us, and above the common voices around us. The lies you were told can sound very loud, and human reasoning alone cannot always answer them. Faith is learning to look beyond those voices to what God says is true, that He is, that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him, and that He is near to the brokenhearted. Jesus often said to those He healed, according to your faith be it unto you, showing that He honors even a small, trembling trust and uses it to confirm and strengthen the soul.

Healing from such words takes time, and love is the great teacher in that healing. God’s love is kind and patient, and it reforms us and lifts us up. As you seek to believe again, bring those painful words honestly to God in prayer. Tell Him what was spoken over you and ask Him to show you what He says about you in His Word. Read the Psalms and the promises of His care, stay close to faithful believers who will speak truth with love, and allow His kindness to slowly replace the old labels.

I pray for you now that God will quiet the voices that called you worthless and let you hear His own voice more clearly. May He give you a generous and vigorous faith that looks to Him above all else, restore your confidence not in your own strength alone but in His love and power at work in you, and show you that you are created, known, and deeply loved. May He heal what has been wounded and lead you step by step into the joy and assurance that comes from trusting Him.
