You seek the Lord Jesus Christ and our prayers, and this is good. But take care that your soul is not weighed down with so many cares. You ask for wisdom and guidance in business, a wife, finances, friendships, sport, and every other area. Are you not scattering yourself over too many things? The Lord said, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Why then do you fret over strategy and support as if He did not know your needs? First be zealous for the spiritual life and ministries, for that is the one thing necessary, the better part which shall not be taken away. If you cling to that, God will order the rest for your good.
You also ask for healing of your teeth, eyes, leg, and inward parts. Bodily pain is harsh, and we shall pray for your complete healing. Yet do not place your hope even in this above the hope of salvation. The tooth bites, but the sting of covetousness and the anxiety of poverty bite more fiercely, for penury when involuntary is more grievous than furnace or wild beast. Offer your sufferings to God with patience; let them be a martyrdom for you. And as for remedies, do not run after amulets or charms, even if some old woman calls herself a Christian. Those things are idolatry. Sign yourself with the Cross; say, “This is my only weapon, my only remedy; I know no other.” God heals, or He delays healing, for the benefit of the soul. Sometimes a loving lament over our weakness brings more healing than the health of the body.
You desire a wife to start a family. That is an honorable desire. But let your first longing be for the Bridegroom of the Church. Wait upon Him; do not let this good thing become a distraction. If you seek first His righteousness, He will provide a helpmate at the right time, if it serves your salvation. Let love be the root of all your plans, love for God first, and then for your neighbor. Without that love, even if you have faith, knowledge, and a perfect life, you are nothing.
Therefore, bring your requests to God, but let your prayer be simple: “Father, glorify Your name in my life. Give me grace to endure all things, to seek only Your kingdom, and to trust You with my body and my needs.” Do not multiply words for every area; He knows what you need before you ask. We will join our prayers for you, but I exhort you to hear what the Spirit says: Do not lose your soul by chasing after the world. The day is coming when we shall see the rivers of fire and chains never to be broken. Let that day be ever before your eyes, and you will have wisdom indeed.
