We hear the deep pain and weariness in your cry and we are lifting you up before the Lord together right now. When you say you cry out to God all day and He seems cold and mean, and that people are mean and you do not know why you have to be here, our hearts ache with you, and we want you to know you are not alone and you are not forgotten.
We want to gently correct how you are seeing God in this dark moment, not to rebuke you harshly, but to speak truth over the lies that suffering can whisper. God is not cold and He is not mean. His Word tells us Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18. And He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3. What you are feeling is real, and many faithful people in Scripture felt the same, even David cried out asking where God was, yet God was still there, still merciful, still holding them. The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness. Psalm 103:8. People can indeed be mean because we live in a fallen world broken by sin, but that is not a reflection of God's heart toward you. His thoughts toward you are thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11.
We also notice you cried out to God, but you did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to share why that matters so much. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and can be sure He hears us. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. And There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. Jesus took our sin and our pain upon Himself on the cross and rose again so that we could be forgiven, reconciled to God, and held even when we feel too weak to hold on. If you have not yet put your trust in Him, we encourage you to call upon His name today, confess that you need Him as Savior and Lord, and believe that He loves you and died for you. He understands rejection and sorrow and He will not turn away anyone who comes to Him.
You asked why you have to be here. We want to tell you that your life has value and purpose because you are made in the image of God and He has not finished His work in you. Even when you cannot feel it, He is with you. Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10. And Jesus invites you Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28. Nothing can separate you from His love when you are in Christ, for we are persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39.

Show that You are near, that You are good, and that You have a purpose for this life. Give strength for today, just enough for the next breath and the next step. Help our dear one to know that they are deeply loved and not alone. Lead them to put their full trust in Jesus, to call upon His name for salvation and for daily help. Provide safe and caring people, a pastor, a counselor, a trusted friend or family member to walk with them, and give them courage to reach out right away and tell someone how heavy this feels. If they feel unsafe with their thoughts, lead them to get help immediately from someone nearby or a local crisis helpline. Your cry has come before the Lord and before His people, and it is not lightly heard. To feel that God seems cold and mean, and that men are cruel, and to ask why you must be here at all, is a very deep and bitter sorrow, and I would not pass it by with light words.
Let me speak plainly and tenderly to you. What you feel is not what God is. Our feelings often speak untruthfully. You say He seems cold and mean, yet the truth of God is that He is the God of Hope, and He has made the first overtures for peace toward sinners. All things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ. Reconciliation was never achieved by man, but is the work of God from first to last, and He beseeches you to be reconciled to Him. He is not standing afar off waiting for you to make yourself fit. He comes to you in Christ, and in Christ He cries, be reconciled.
You are not alone in feeling forsaken. Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, though sinless and full of trust, cried, My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me. He knows what it is to feel that God is absent, to drift as it were into darkness. Yet mark how He still said, My God, My God. He kissed the hand that smote Him and clung to His Father still. When your heart and flesh fail, still live by faith and still cry, My God, My God. That very crying is heard.
Do not keep this grief locked within you as if you must make yourself better before you may come to Him. God desires truth in the inward parts, and He will not parley with dishonest pretence. The way of honest dealing is to tell Him all, just as it is. When a broken spirit cries, Oh, what a wretch I am, and feels he has no fitness for grace, then he is in the very place where grace can meet him. Tell Him that you feel He is cold, tell Him that people have wounded you, tell Him you do not know how to help yourself. Confess it plainly to the great High Priest who can be touched with the feeling of our infirmities. He cannot be defiled by listening to your tale of sin and sorrow.
You say, our hope is lost. That is an evil word which goes beyond the truth of God. God is the sinner's hope and He is not lost, so despair is not warranted. Despair is a crime against the truth of God and it tramples on the blood of Christ, for it prefers the lie of hell to the word from heaven which declares that Christ is able to save unto the uttermost them that come unto God by Him. Being justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. That peace does not come by feeling that all is right within us, for by nature all is wrong, but by looking out of ourselves to Christ who was made to be sin for us.
Why must you be here. Because the Lord has not done with you. He who has preserved you to this hour has a purpose in your life, though it be hidden from you now. He pleads the cause of His people, sometimes by silencing enemies and sometimes by raising up friends, and He can plead your cause in providence in ways you cannot yet see. Your being here is not an accident, and your sorrow is not unseen.
I beseech you then, do not remain alone with these thoughts. Go at once and speak face to face with a faithful minister, or a godly friend, or one who can care for your soul and body. If the darkness presses very heavily and you think of harm, seek help without delay from a trusted person near you, or from a pastor or counselor, and if you are in danger, seek immediate help. Let another know how you are, and let them watch with you and pray with you.
Walk before Him in the little strength you have, with an habitual sense that He is near, and keep crying to Him, even if it be only in groans. He hears the mouths of the weak and the weary, and He has often used the feeblest cries to overthrow the power of the enemy. You need not be ashamed of your weakness, for the power of God rests upon such.
May the Lord teach you His statutes and give you to know that you are reconciled and righteous before Him through the blood of His Son. May He turn your crying into confidence, so that you who now say He seems mean may yet say, I know that Jehovah, He is God, for He has saved me and forgiven me. Look to Jesus now, as you are, and live.

Your cry has been heard, and thank you for sharing it so honestly even when it is hard to find the words. To feel that God seems cold and mean, that people are mean, and to wonder why you have to be here is a heavy burden to carry all day, and it is right that you brought it into the light instead of carrying it alone.
God is not cold or mean toward you, even when He feels distant. We have a great High Priest who has passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, and He is not unable to be touched with the feeling of our infirmities. He walked the same road we walk, and a more rugged one, for He suffered Himself being tempted, so that He is able to help those who are tempted and who cry out. His grace and loving kindness is shown not because we have earned it by works, but because He saves us by grace when we could not save ourselves. He does not reject you in your weakness. He draws near to you in it.
People can indeed be harsh, and their unkindness can make the heart feel straitened on every side, by foes and even by those of our own household. But God is not like people at their worst. He is not unrighteous to forget you or your pain. He sees you, He remembers you, and He does not forget the love and the tears you have poured out before Him.
What you are feeling now is real suffering, and Scripture does not tell us to pretend it is not there. It tells us that though our outward man may feel worn down and decaying by being pressed and troubled, the inward man can be renewed day by day. It is like gold refined in the fire, becoming brighter through the very trial. This happens not by our strength alone, but by faith and hope and a willingness to keep looking to Him. Hope is confidence in things to come that we do not yet see. God asks this one thing of us, to hope in Him and to wait with patience, and He gives abundant help to the soul that hopes, to solace the wearied soul. Patience works probation, and probation hope, because those who have been in danger and have been recovered by hope in God learn to hold to that hope more and more.
You do not have to help yourself alone anymore, and you do not have to wait until you feel stronger to reach out. Please speak today to someone near you, a pastor, a trusted Christian friend or family member, or a counselor, and let them know exactly what you shared here, that you are crying out all day and wondering why you have to be here. I pray for you now that the Lord will let you feel His compassion that is already toward you, that He will lift the coldness and heaviness you feel and replace it with His peace, that He will place faithful people around you who will show His kindness, and that He will give you hope and patience to wait for His help day by day. May He renew your inward strength, keep you through this night and the days to come, and let you know how deeply you are loved and needed. Please do not stay alone with this pain. Keep crying out to God, even with the simple words you have, even through tears. He hears the broken and contrite heart and does not despise it. Tell Him plainly, I am hurting, I feel alone, help me to hope. Read a little each day in the Psalms and in the New Testament, and ask Him to show you His nearness.
I pray for you now that the Lord will let you feel His compassion that is already toward you, that He will lift the coldness and heaviness you feel and replace it with His peace, that He will place faithful people around you who will show His kindness, and that He will give you hope and patience to wait for His help day by day. May He renew your inward strength, keep you through this night and the days to come, and let you know how deeply you are loved and needed. Please do not stay alone with this pain.
