I have been stupid

I fell into sin some time ago.. I had financial difficulties and I was very unhappy. I started dating the manager of my company. He promised me all kind of promises and I believed him but he discarded me very cruelly 10 minutes before my 8 hours shift was to start. I was so hurt of the situation that I told him that I was pregnant not for to get him back but to make him to freak out, because I was extremely hurt and felt so used abused and ugly. And it worked it freaked him out. He asked me proof of pregnancy, I don't know what to say. In these weeks I have noticed that he is a total psychopath. If I tell him the truth, he will take me to court. I need God's wisdom to overcome this situation

We have heard your honest confession and we are bringing your situation before the Lord together with you in Jesus' name, asking for His mercy, truth and wisdom to cover you.

We grieve with you over the pain you have carried through financial hardship, loneliness and then being so cruelly discarded. At the same time we must speak the truth in love about what has happened so you can find real freedom. You said you fell into sin by dating the manager of your company who made you promises and then left you feeling used and abused. Scripture calls us to flee sexual immorality, for every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body, 1 Corinthians 6:18, and to let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers, Hebrews 13:4. A dating relationship is not to be casual or for financial security or affection outside commitment, but courtship should be entered with the goal of marriage to a fellow believer in Christ, seeking a godly spouse in purity and honor. When we seek to meet our financial and emotional needs outside of God, we open ourselves to deeper hurt. But God promises if we seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, all these things will be given to you as well, Matthew 6:33, and that our God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:19.

We also must address with love the lie about being pregnant. We understand you were deeply hurt and wanted him to feel something of the pain he caused you, and it did cause him to be afraid, but a lie only brings more bondage. The Lord says putting away falsehood, speak truth each one with his neighbor, Ephesians 4:25, and do not lie to one another, Colossians 3:9, and lying lips are an abomination to Yahweh, Proverbs 12:22. He who conceals his sins doesn’t prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy, Proverbs 28:13, and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free, John 8:32. A false witness will not be unpunished, Proverbs 19:9, and all liars will have their part in the second death, Revelation 21:8, so this is very serious before God. Continuing the lie and trying to provide false proof will only make the consequences far worse, legally and spiritually, even if you fear he will take you to court. The fear of man proves to be a snare, but whoever puts his trust in Yahweh is kept safe, Proverbs 29:25. It is better to face the consequences of the truth now with God’s help than to be trapped in a growing deception.

You asked for God’s wisdom and we praise God that you are turning to Him, but we noticed you did not mention the name of Jesus Christ in your request. There is no other way to come to the Father except through Him. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. It is only by believing in Jesus Christ, that He died for our sins and rose again, that we have forgiveness and access to God. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, 1 John 1:9. We encourage you to confess both the sexual sin and the lie fully to the Lord Jesus first, turning away from them and receiving His forgiveness.

We urge you in wisdom to go to God for His wisdom, for if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him, James 1:5. Then in that wisdom, tell the truth quickly and plainly to this man. Do not try to create false proof. Confess that you were not pregnant and that you said it out of deep hurt. We encourage you to do this with a wise, mature Christian counselor or pastor with you for support and as a witness, and to keep any communication written and truthful. You will need to accept that he may be angry and may threaten legal action, but a lie about pregnancy is not a matter that will stand in truth, and the Lord will be your defender when you walk in honesty. Also seek godly counsel about your workplace situation, as continuing to work under a man you were involved with and who you describe as cruel will be very difficult, and you may need to seek other employment with integrity.

God can redeem even this painful and foolish moment. He does not define you as used or ugly, you are made in His image and deeply loved, and when we repent He restores us.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior. We lift up this dear one to You who is hurting, ashamed and afraid. Lord, we ask You to forgive her sins as she confesses them to You, wash her clean by the blood of Jesus, and heal the wounds of being used and rejected. Grant her godly sorrow that leads to repentance and life. Give her courage to speak the truth and to forsake all falsehood, even when she fears the consequences, and let her trust not in man but in You. Fill her with Your wisdom, provide for her financial needs according to Your riches, guide her steps at work and in relationships, and lead her into purity and into a future marriage that honors You if it is Your will, with a godly husband who will love her as Christ loves the church. Protect her from all harm and from the enemy, and let her know she is forgiven, cherished and made new in Christ. We ask all this in Jesus' name, amen.

We hear how deeply hurt and cornered you feel right now, and how much you want to handle what comes next in a way that honors God. Being discarded so cruelly, especially at work right before a shift, would leave anyone feeling used and shaken. It makes sense that in that raw moment you wanted him to feel some of the shock you felt, and now that one reaction has left you in a harder place.

A lie told out of pain can feel like it gives back a little power, but it quickly becomes a trap of its own. Continuing it will only make things more tangled, and you are right to want wisdom for how to step back into truth.

Before you answer his request for proof, we encourage you to not carry this alone. Would you invite one trusted, mature person to walk with you this week, a pastor, counselor, or older believer you respect, and let them help you think through the next communication? With them you can prepare a brief, clear, written response that simply tells the truth without long explanations or emotional detail, and keep a copy. Keep all contact calm, written, and not alone at work, and let that wise person know about the workplace dynamic and any threats about court so they can help you consider what practical support you may need.

We are praying with you.

Father, we bring our sister to You in Jesus name. You see her hurt, her financial strain, and the fear she feels now. Grant her Your wisdom, courage to speak truthfully, and protection as she does. Bring steady, trustworthy people around her, guard her heart and her work situation, and lead her step by step into healing and peace. Amen.

The sorrow that you have poured out is seen by Him who sees all that is in the hidden parts, and it is good that you have not hidden it from Him. You have been brought low by want and unhappiness, and you sought comfort in a way that God calls sin, giving yourself to a man who was not your husband. That first wrong has wounded you deeply, and to be cast aside so cruelly has added bitterness to the wound. Yet the hurt you felt did not justify the second wrong, when you spoke what was not true and said you were with child to make him fear. One sin does not cover another, it only deepens the pit.

You now feel the snare that a lie creates. He asks for proof which you cannot give, and you fear what man will do if you tell the truth. Hear the wisdom of God in this. There is a repentance which is only of the flesh and is caused by fear, such as the thief feels when he is taken, or the sinner when he dreads the court. That carnal repentance is not the holy work of the Spirit, and God abhors a superficial repentance that only seeks to hide the ulcer. True repentance gives God glory. It does not dwell only upon the consequences of sin, but upon the sin itself as committed against so holy and so good a Being as the infinitely blessed God. It makes a rainbow with tears of grief for sin and glances of hope at the love of Christ and His great finished work.

You ask for wisdom to overcome this situation. Wisdom begins in the fear of the Lord. There is a slavish fear which dreads man as a taskmaster, and there is a filial fear which reverences God as a Father. If we have much fear of God we shall have strong confidence, but if we have not the fear of God then the fear of man will make us waver. You fear his anger and the court of man, but you must fear to continue in a falsehood before the living God. Who need fear a man that fears the King of kings. Drive straight ahead in the fear of God and trust Him with the outcome.

Pour out your heart before God as you sit in secret. Make a plain and full confession before Him to whom no iniquity can be hidden. Take the publican's prayer upon your lips, God be merciful to me a sinner, and look out of self to Christ and to Christ only. Remission of sins is preached in His name alone, for there is salvation through Jesus Christ alone, and His blood can wash away both the sin of the flesh and the sin of the lying lip. Repentance is His gift, and it lives as long as faith lives. It is not a bitter operation to be gotten through once, but a sweet and abiding grace that leads us to hate sin with an everlasting hatred and to bring forth works meet for repentance.

That practical repentance must now be seen in the truth. What is done in darkness must be brought into the light. You cannot build peace upon a lie. You must tell him, plainly and without excuse or long story, that what you said concerning pregnancy was not true, that you spoke it out of hurt, and that you repent before God for having spoken it. Do not add to the general confession before man any particulars that would inflame or entangle you further. Let the confession be true, brief, and clear. It is wise not to meet him alone. Seek a godly pastor or a mature and sober Christian woman in your church to counsel you and if need be to be present or to help you put the truth in writing. Seek also wise counsel concerning any threat of law, but do not let the fear of man keep you in falsehood. God is not mocked. He sees through the film which seeks to hide the sore.

Do not look to this man for covering or for promises. Marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and all that belongs to it is to be kept within it. What you sought outside that covenant could never give you the comfort you desired. Turn now from that path entirely. Separate yourself from that company and from every occasion to sin, and give yourself to Christ to be His alone.

I will pray for you, not that God would bless a lie or prosper what He calls sin, but that He would grant you repentance unto life, that He would wash you in the blood of Christ, that He would give you strong confidence through the fear of the Lord, and that He would keep you and guide you in the way of holiness and truth. He is merciful to receive all who come with a broken and contrite heart. Go to Him now, tell Him all, and then in His strength do the truth and leave the consequences in His hands.
